Report
AI Summary
This report investigates the privacy and security challenges associated with social media platforms, specifically focusing on their impact on information sharing. It begins by outlining the background of social media's integral role in daily life and the emergence of privacy issues as a significant threat. The aim is to evaluate major privacy threats related to social media use and analyze the impact of data security issues on communication and data sharing, using Facebook as a case study. The literature review highlights concerns about the vulnerability of users to fraud and social crimes due to shared information, the misuse of personal information by strangers, and the lack of awareness among users regarding data privacy. The research methodology employs primary research methods, including interviews and observations, with an inductive approach to gather qualitative data on privacy issues and challenges in social media. The report concludes by referencing various books and journals that support the research findings.

The title of this project is “Privacy and security concerns related to social media and their
impact on information sharing”

INTRODUCTION
Background
Social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook and Instagram have become an integral
element of daily life. Communication and social interaction can be considered as impossible
without these tools (Haggag and et.al., 2021). However, with growing involvement of these
platforms and technology privacy issues have emerged as the biggest threat of these facilities. It
has become almost impossible for the individuals to maintain privacy because such platforms are
able to access as well as share extreme personal details of users that too without their knowledge
or consent. As a result, many people are expressing their concerns and rights to maintain privacy
and data security (Wang and Bashir, 2020). Hence it is very important to investigate the related
privacy issues and their impact they have created on users and information sharing.
Aim
To investigate the security and privacy related challenges associated with social media
platforms and their impact on information sharing: A case study on Facebook
Research objectives
To evaluate the major privacy threats related to use of social media
To analyse the impact of data security issues on communication and data sharing
Research question
What are the privacy and security threats experienced by users when using social media
as communication platform?
How privacy concerns on social media is affecting ease and quality of information shared
on such platforms?
Literature review
According to Bender and et.al., (2017) social media is widely used by people to share
information. However, the increasing privacy threats are making people vulnerable to frauds and
victims of other social and financial crimes. The information shared by people on social media is
shared and used by service providers which often creates security breaches for the people.
As per Vu, Law and Li, (2019) social media platforms have become a hub for stealing the
personal information of people and which is often misused by others to trap. Most of the social
media users remain unaware with the fact that their personal information which they are sharing

with only trustworthy people is also accessible to strangers who might use that information for
wrong purpose. In the same context Choi and Sung, (2018) stated that social media is popular
among all age groups as medium for interaction with their loved ones. However, these targeted
populations used to have little concerns over the way in which their information is interpreted,
used and shared. Thus there is need that individuals must give attention to data privacy needs and
methods. According to Beigi and Liu, (2018) data privacy violations often increases social
crimes and crucial psychological health issues. The unregulated and uncontrolled flow of
personal information also act as triggering factor for increasing suicide rates and other health
concerns. Privacy violations and lack of suitable knowledge and strategy toward the issue is
mainly because of lack of awareness and lack of regulation in this context. However, the rising
privacy threats and security breaches and related crimes are demanding for rapid action over the
matter.
Research methodology
Research strategy which keep the research for making the project or research to be
successful. While this forms the collection or gathering information through using the various
research methods. While basically, this might be also help the scholar for knowing about how the
research methods that could keep some of the strategy and use the various methods (Hughes and
Barlo, 2021). In this, scholar have selected the primary research methods for collecting or
gathering information about the privacy issues in social media and make sure for having the
proper collection of sources. As the scholar have selected the interview, observation and groups
for collecting the data. Primary research means the data which have been collected through using
the survey, interview, questionnaire and so on. This might be also help the scholar for taking
some of the right decision and also come to know about how usually this could make the proper
use of given topics. Research approaches which have been selected for such research as
inductive which help the scholar for work easy and make the research collection with some
estimated data (Trimmer, 2020). This is being used when the research study is being qualitative
and accordingly to that it will use such kind of various research methods. As various research
methods that could take place, but the primary methods of collection data about the social media
data and what challenges in privacy of social media is being more high suitable for making the
research and also bring out some of the experience more in collecting the information.
