Literature review
Equality and diversity
As per according to the viewpoint of India Wentworth, 2020, Equality means that
everybody has an equal chance whether at home, work or in the society. This means that
everybody whether male or female is equal to take up the opportunities and everybody is treated
equally without any discrimination. Let say for example, Salary of women is still less than that of
men. We are still dealing with inequality like: Black Workers: Black workers have less
opportunities than white workers. English is not their native language: Workers with English
as their second language might get jobs with less salary than the person with English as their first
language. Part time and Temporary workers: Most of the time part time workers and
temporary workers are not involved at the time of training. The equality Act 2010:Under the
equality act, 2010 people are protected from discrimination. Discrimination like age, disability,
marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy & maternity, race, sex, sexual orientation, religion and
belief, gender reassignment and more (Dennissen, Benschop and van den Brink, 2019). All these
issues can be found in a workplace and businessmen are bind to meet the standards of the Act.
Diversity is to take the differences into account between people and groups of people, and
placing a positive value on those differences. Diversity applies to everyone and is a part of
everything we do. Diversity is linked with freedom and promoting human rights. It means to
recognise people's different backgrounds, skills, knowledge and experiences which will help in
creating a productive workforce.

According to the viewpoint of Sherrie Scott, Discrimination at a workplace is a very
common but a major issue in today's business world. Discrimination at a workplace is often
based on preconceptions and occurs when an employee is mistreated for the reasons like gender,
sex, race, religion, pregnancy, or maybe disability. Equal Employment Opportunity commission
is charged with imposing anti-discrimination laws within the workplace. Law adopted to forbid
discrimination include The Civil Rights Act, 1964, The Pregnancy Discrimination Act, Age
Discrimination in the employment act, etc. The commission look into the complaints against
employers that avowedly violate their obligations under the act. Some kinds of discrimination
shows obvious signs of inappropriate behaviour. Sexual harassment is forbade under the
pretences as anti-discrimination laws. Employees in the workplace have the right to lodge a
complaint against the employer if they have been ill-treated by their employer or any colleague.
First, the employee should file the complaint with the employer if the employer fails to resolve
the situation, the employee may ask for the help of the anti-discrimination authorities (Kleen and
Glock, 2018). Employers have the responsibility to protect the rights of the employees and them
from discrimination. They should take proper steps to stop inappropriate doings in the
workplace. Failing to protect the human rights ends up with fines, legal action, or maybe
criminal charges. Workers have many anti-discrimination rights but they are responsible for their
own safety. Not only the employers but the employees also have some duties as employees are
compelled to inform the employer regarding the harassment they encountered. Employers should
know the needs of their employees so they can help them in the time of need.
Deprivation
As per according to the viewpoint of R.C. Jiloha, 2020, Human behaviour is considered
as outcome of biochemical and genetic characteristics, motivational states, past learning
experiences, psycho-social antecedents and so on which is unfolds. Deprivation is define as
consequences in which there is socio-economic disparity which is due to caste system which is
mainly fitted in Indian society which is particular items of culture. In terms of traditional Hindu
society which is compartmentalised in many caste groups which have basis of superior,
instituting which is of social terms. Basically this system places for untouchables which is of
bottom of pyramid of caste which is obviously in terms of system of legalised inequality, variant
of ascriptive system of stratification, there is also allocation of status and roles which is governed
by their own principles such as economic, social, ritualistic and political structure which is

related to individual in terms of each other (Schachner, 2019). This mainly describes Scheduled
tribes and caste which is constitution of world that have subjected to discrimination for centuries
and deprivation. The essence of caste is define as arrangement of heredity groups which is in
hierarchy as there is a necessary corollary as caste is considered for individual which is mainly
handed down from father to son and mainly governed by precise rules and regulations which
have in base of water, food and also other members of other caste. Deprivation plays important
role as unfolding of human behaviour in society. Mainly this is based on subject manner. And
also receives end of social deprivation which is particularly as religious scriptures which also
permits deprivations.
Ethnic Minority
As per according to Bina Patel and Ozlem Mehmet, 2020, Ethnic group is define as a
grouping of individuals who mainly identifies each other in terms of shared attributes which
distinguish them as like common traditions, language, history, culture, religion and so on. There
are immediate steps which have to be undertaken by employers which helps in demonstrate with
their genuine commitment to ethnic diversity and racial equality such as, there must be articulate
commitment to ethnic diversity which helps staff members for committing as issue of
communication such as equality, diversity and also inclusion. After this there must be core
values which ensures reflection in policies, strategies, every day hold events and practices
(Neumark, 2018). There must be inclusion and diversity champion which helps in enhancement
of profit this can be done by providing them formal training and increase their understanding of
equality, inclusion and diversity. Furthermore, there must be audit of diversity which helps in
breakdown all positions and also evaluating data. Moreover there should be proper training and
enforcement which are in context of promotion and recruitment. There should be promotion and
recruitment process which are in support for overcoming them and facilitate which in terms of
progressions. Afterwards in organisation there must be celebrate and encourage diversity and
also engagement of employees with help proper communication channels between them.
Methodology
Introduction
Research methodology refers to the procedure which is helpful for the researcher in order
to accumulate effective data and information regarding the prominent field in order to carry
4

forward the study. It is undertaken as the most effective and prominent sector that effectively
depict the suitable methods of research which is applied in order to carry forward the study. For
this, the researcher tends to explain the important details and information in order to effectively
address the research questions and aims which was effectively collected, identified and shown.
For this, the suitable reason for the prominent justification for the sources of data, data collection
techniques, research design, research reliability, and validity which are effectively used. In
regard of this, research onion framework is helpful which is opted in order to identified as the
best approach for the research (Apprich and et. al., 2018). This framework tends to has several
layers which are mentioned as:
Research philosophy
It depict the prominent set of principles which is concerned with the suitable view by
which research is organised. There are several types of research philosophy which effectively
depict interpretivism and positivism. As per this topic, interpretivism philosophy is effectively
applied which is prominently useful in order to effectively analyse data and effective information
respectively. Besides from this, positivism philosophy which is not applied on the research to
carry forward the research activity as it does not tends to carry research in an appropriate and
systematic way. Therefore, positivism philosophy is more scientific meanwhile interpretivism is
qualitative in nature.
Approach
This sector represent the approaches which are opted by researcher in order to carry
forward their investigation. For this, both inductive and deductive are undertaken as the best
approach which are used by researcher in order to gather suitable quality of information
regarding the study (Rubin and O’Connor, 2018). By undertaking this topic, inductive approach
is quite prominent as it is useful for the researcher in terms of collecting effective information
regarding the subject which is helpful in order to gain effective result for the upcoming research.
Hence, both the approaches are considered as these are useful in collecting prominent qualitative
information and details to carry forward the study.
Research Strategy
It depict the suitable aims and objectives to carry forward the research and effectively
represent prominent strategies like experimental design, survey design, case study, action

research and so on. In this, researcher tries to effectively study the relationship among cause-
effect and other variables. Researcher also tends to effectively manipulate the independent
variable for the study and suitable changes which are depend on the variables. Moreover, the
systematic inquiry for the primary sources which are held in order to archives for the overall
evidence and effective collection and the researcher does not use secondary sources which is
effective for topic. Hence, primary sources are considered in order to collect data which are
useful in terms of collecting data and information to carry forward the research.
Research methods
There are two effective kinds of research undertaking both qualitative and quantitative.
By undertaking the qualitative research, prominent research and data is collected considering the
type of quality. Besides this, in terms of quantitative research, prominent information is collected
undertaking the number of figures and facts. Hence, both the types of research are important by
as per the study, effective qualitative research is quite suitable and valuable as it is useful for the
researcher in order to analyse the effective response for the prominent respondents (Zhuang and
et. al., 2018). Along with this, mixed method is also based on the prominent use of two or more
methods which effectively undertake both qualitative and quantitative methodology. Therefore,
both the methods are undertaken in order to collect information as both are important for the
researcher to collect accurate and exact information.
Primary and Secondary research
The prominent research depends on both primary and secondary data and information in
terms of coming up the prominent aims and objective of findings. For this, primary data
effectively represent the data which is collected for the first time in a while in the specific area.
Primary data tends to undertake applied questionnaire and interviews. Apart from this, the
secondary data tends to collect the suitable motive instead of original use. Moreover, effective
sources are applied in by collecting secondary data and documents are identified from the
published and unpublished company which is collected from the internal journals of the business.
Hence, secondary sources of data is essential for the investigator in order to accumulate
prominent information regarding the study.
6

Sampling
Sample is the group of study by which data is collected and this technique is classified
into two sections including probability and non-probability method. For this, the suitable process
of sampling undertake systematic, random and judgemental sampling. For this, the reason behind
the selection of stratified sampling tends to make sure an equal representation for the identified
segments (Pattanaik and Xu, 2018). Along with this, the judgemental sampling is important for
the project in order to make sure the effective optimisation of resources and time that leads to
sought the suitable respondents undertaking the valuable information regarding the area of
research.
Research Ethics
Research ethics effectively use extensively ways to make sure the suitable outcome of
study which are undertaken for the appropriate and relevant study. For this, there are three
principles which are applied for the research including confidentiality, anonymity and informed
consent. In regard of this, considering informed consent, in this research tends to offer exact
information regarding the research objectives to each and every participants which is useful for
them in order to complete their research in an effective and systematic manner. Moreover,
anonymity depict the details of participants that does not undertake and not linked with the
primary research (Sumner and et. al., 2019).
Data collection techniques
It effective depict the collection of data undertaking the facts, figures, symbols, objects
and events which are collected from various sources. For this, companies tends to collect data in
order to make better decisions as without data, it would be quite difficult for companies to make
effective decisions and data is also gathered at several points in time from various audiences.
Moreover, there are several types of data collection techniques undertaking observation,
interview, questionnaire and so on. Hence, it is important for the researcher to effective gather
prominent information regarding the topic. So, researcher tends to opt secondary method and for
this, they consider books, journals, observation and so on.
Data analysis
It effectively depict the three types of data analysis techniques including deductive and
inductive analysis. For this, all are important but as per the topic, inductive approach is
7

effectively applied by the researcher. Hence, it will be useful for the investigator to identify the
alternative details and effectively feel the prominent situation on the basis of knowing the nature
of issue effectively.
Conclusion
Hence, it is intended that in order to help the reader to effectively understand the matter
of research, then they need to undertake reading of paper for having prominent knowledge and
understanding (Dymitrow, Biegańska and Grzelak‐Kostulska, 2018). The conclusion depict the
summary the research issues and methods which are undertaken to deal with it. In this, secondary
research is conducted for having prominent investigation which is useful in terms of carrying
forward the research effectively.
Data Collection and Presentation
Workplace diversity is the concept which is useful at the organisation and effectively
undertake the composition of workforce without varying the features including gender, race,
ethnicity and so on. For this, organisation tends to undertake workplace diversity only when they
have wide range of experience and features. In terms of Asda, they tends to commissioned the
Global diversity practice at the starting for the program of Unconscious Bias workshops and it
tends to put emphasis on the effective balance of gender and the impact of potential unconscious
bias on the decision making for the specific part to the hiring and succession planning (Banfi and
et. al., 2019). It tends to depict the effective development for the subsequent cascade of the
leadership program for ethnic minority leaders and women.
Besides this, the program is developed undertaking the skills of BAME by focusing on
the suitable challenges which are relevant for the prominent performance and progression at the
company. It also tends to turn on the improvement for the inclusivity and diversity of their
workforce at all the levels of company. Therefore, with the help of global diversity practice that
leads to deliver and design the innovative interactive practice including open minds for all the
regional teams and directors undertaking the operations and HR. Moreover, the suitable impact
of this program is undertaken from the sessions that was positively for both the thought and
provoke the awareness of unconscious behaviour that leads to create barriers for the female
growth within an organisation. Considering this program for the first year including the women
in leadership, they tends to saw the representation for the female store managers by undertaking

the enhancement for the 4% (Ethnicity Strategy and Open Minds, 2020). Apart from this, around
85% of the female workforce leads to get agree for the statement that “they have opportunity for
the progress which they want”.
Moreover, Asda also tends to seen the higher level of involvement and commitment from
the leaders in order to have great impact on the change undertaking the talent pipeline to enhance
the number of women in senior leadership roles (Gutjahr, and Fischer, 2018). Moreover, Asda
also tends to decide in terms of prioritise the suitable efforts in terms of enhancing the women in
leadership program and also introduce an ethnicity leadership program. Hence, both the
programs are developed in order to help minority leaders and also understand the challenges by
developing innovation techniques to overcome the barriers of progression and offer mentoring
support to the existing participants of program.
Data analysis
The above information is collected in support of secondary research as with this ability of
a researcher to attain with better authenticity. In this it is analysed that equality and diversity is
always be essential as for the business and under this only the ability to attain long term success
and development is processed in successful manner. As with this business has played an essential
role and under this working efficiency and its effectiveness both get managed in ordinate basis.
For this business has offered various benefits and other facilities to its employee along with
better offering of certain pathway by which sustained level of opportunities is offered in
balanced mode (Jugert, Leszczensky and Pink, 2018). There are different challenges that is faced
by an organisation and along with this sustained level of sustainability is attained in ordinate
basis as with this management make ensure that working tendency is getting managed in
systematic manner. These challenges also get addressed with support of social mobility and it
induced adequate level of balanced and adequateness as with this working performance and
productivity is getting managed in controlled mode. It particularly processed with balance and
also being used to eliminate racism under which ethnic minority is also get managed and
controlled as with this long term success is attained with better control and success. It processed
certain level of effectiveness as with this sustained application is offered to the working
employee's as with the support of different range of policies and strategies as with this working
tendency and its processing both get managed in systematically. As in support of equality as well
as diversity management of the business is managed by which ability and capabilities of the
9

business to manage working operations and functions is managed and controlled as potential
working employee's is getting hired and retained by which working performance and its
productiveness both get controlled with effectiveness. In addition to this discrimination is also
get controlled under which business offered adequate policies as with this income and wage is
decided on the basis of educational background, experience, knowledge and skills and neither get
dependent over sexual biasses. Furthermore with relation to deprivation business and its
management make ensure to maintain clear and direct focus as well as concern about to manage
the working performance as with this long term productivity and its profitability is getting
controlled over a regular period of instance (Glock, Kovacs and Pit‐ten Cate, 2019). It assist the
management to develop and design suitable strategies as with this working credibility is getting
controlled as by attaining long term success and development as all the employees get connected
with the working behaviour and under this accessibility of working is getting maintained with
better suitability. In addition to this ethnic minority is also get managed by an organisation as
with this all the different people that belongs from different race, colour, nationality, cultural and
religion oriented that all get worked all together in order to promote and advance working
acceptability as with this ability to achieve standardised outcome is addressed with perfection.
There are few recommendations for ASDA which are suggested for understanding diversity and
equality are discussed below:
In UK there is Equality Act 2010 is considered so company have to give equal
opportunity to all employees. This is consider as by using proper training and
development programmes which creates opportunity for company as potential customers
are attracted for company.
So this leads to increase in profitability and productivity factors for organisation. With
help of this act there are certain legal requirement which is under existing legislations
which promotes equality in the areas such as age, disability, religion, beliefs (Pina, Polo
and Huey, 2019). The company have to encourage compliance with Human Rights Act.
ASDA have to hourly pay as same to male and female workers so they have to pay equal
by giving them different employment programmes which are generally at different areas.
There is also a way which helps in eliminating and diminishing racism which is against
minority by providing equal opportunity in education, social mobility and education.
This can be done by offering proper training and development of employees.
