REFLECTION
I have got opportunity for conducting the research titled “Benefits and drawbacks of
utilizing social networking in the business of “Wesfarmers limited”. The current research topic is
very wide so my abilities contributed me in selecting the topic and identifying research problem
so that I can manage the overall process related with the same. There are different research
questions on which I conducted the research such as:
 Different research thoughts and theoretical data of the problems concerning the business
arising out of social networking marketing strategy.
 What are the benefits as well as drawbacks Wesfarmers comes across through utilizing
social networking
These are the major research questions which were addressed by me within the research.
I have experienced issues in selecting the topic as the industry is too broad and this is a difficult
task that to select one area and constraint in which the research is required to be exerted. The
problem statement within the research is that there are various issues faced by businesses at the
time of using social media such as cyber crime, cyber bullying and various others. These are the
issues which may result into dissemination of different rumours and may provide negative
impact to the organisational brand image as well. So at the time of writing up research questions
it was an issue for me to summarise all such constraint within research so that appropriate topic
can be selected. I have learnt from this that I was required to study regarding all these topic and
must have gathered information so that it would have give clarity regarding such topics. This
way it would have been easier for me to select the topic and execute the research process.
The current research was associated with collecting information using books, journals so
that to gather secondary information related with research topic and to align the research in
respective manner. The process of summarising articles was a tough job as selection of literature
and article and taking out their relation with the research took huge time. I have also analysed
literature gap within the research which is not finding accurate information regarding the
organisation which is Wesfarmers as information was available on the industry which didn't give
specific information on the research topic. In the process of writing literature the major issue
within literature was related with critical evaluation of research topic. This was analysed that I
faced challenges in organising the literature and synthesising the results. The information
available within literature was very generic and the research was based on an organisation so

issues were faced by me in collecting accurate information. On the other hand, I have analysed
that the collected data was outdated which means that it did not incline with research topic. In
this manner I have learnt that in order to find out accurate information in future researches I am
required to gather data by defining time duration so that latest data can be acquired and research
objectives can be attained. Another issue was related with selecting the books and articles as I
had a lot of options with me by which I can collect data. In order to mitigate the same I have
focused on such articles those are related with the industry of Wesfarmers so that accurate
information can be gathered. Similarly another issue within literature review is related with poor
structure of literature as this is analysed that during the research irrelevant and unfocused content
ha massive portion in overall research due to availability of generic content.
The current research executed by me is related with quantitative research so numeric and
statistical data was collected. In this I have analysed that I faced issues in convincing respondents
so that they can provide their response. This was a tough job for me to manage response of
massive respondents so that I can develop the research in required manner. Primary data
collection methods are time taking in nature which means that I spent huge ratio of time in
collecting information using primary methods. Using questionnaire primary data was collected in
the research and the problem within this was related with facing rigidity of respondents. In the
method of sampling as probability sampling was selected and this is highly complex in nature
and time consuming so that it lead me to complete the research within given time frame. The
current research is based on quantitative research methods so that in-depth information is not
being gathered. So I have analysed that in future researches I am going to use qualitative
research so that in-depth information can be collected within research. Survey research strategy
was followed in the current research as under this research strategy live aspects are added which
are time taking in nature and in order to mitigate the same I planned this research in appropriate
manner in order to mitigate such issues and to provide attainability of the objectives.
I am glad that I have got the opportunity to conduct the current research which is going to
assist me in enhancing my knowledge in context of social media and various threats which are
being faced by the organisation when they are developing their existence over social media. The
research is related with undertaking various skills such as research skills, time management
skills, communication skills and many others. In this manner I was required to understand the
research process in apt manner so that I can use my skills in prominent manner and attain

research objectives as well. I have experienced individual and team working in this research
which made me learn regarding the importance of team work and delegation and its importance
in managing a research in needed manner. On the other hand, while working individually I have
analysed that the skills in which I am lacking behind and the manner in which I can develop the
same. In this manner I have analysed that I am weak in communication skills as I have realised
that I faced difficulty in communicating with respondents in order to take out their responses and
to make them fill questionnaire. In order to enhance my communication skills I took various
seminars and lectures so that I can communicate with people and develop my skills as well. On
the other hand, I discovered that I am good in analytical skills as at the time of data analysis I
took appropriate analysis of the research topic and gathered data which made me feel that I am
proficient at such skill. At last the research has given me appropriate knowledge in context of
various research methodologies and their use within different types of researches so this
information can be used by me in managing further researches in appropriate manner. Along
with this these aspects has created my interest in executing future researches in some other areas
so that I can be proficient in analysing different topics can execute researches on them in order to
enhance my knowledge and understanding. The major struggle faced by me in this research was
related with gathering of primary and secondary information as these information needed to be
aligned with research objectives. In order to mitigate the same I arranged the research process in
optimal manner in which solution to all the consequences was written by me so that during the
process I was able to attain research objectives in fully-fledged manner.
