The following summary highlights the essential points of affect and its components in mood
and emotion. It also signifies the role of positive and negative emotions in our daily lives.
Affect describes the feelings that individual experiences. It has a significant role in generating
a particular emotion or mood. Positive and negative emotions are the result of our perceptions
and our evaluation to a certain experience. Affect is just an overall term for the significance
of our moods and emotions. It has a contrasting influence in our cognition and thinking
processes. (Principles of Social Psychology, 2015)
The importance of affect can be seen through media exposure and entertainment product. I
tend to watch certain media programs which brings positive changes and responses in my
emotions. This can be described by a positive outlook to a certain show that creates a positive
cognitive process, result to pleasant state of mind.
I as a student observed that affect has a crucial role in education. It gives a drive to attention
which develops the elements like learning and memory. Memory is considered as contextual
because the stimulation of a particular emotions provides a pathway to recall the information
for students.
However, stressful school environment creates a negative perspective in students this can
result to reduction in the learning behaviour of a student. According to me, highly effective
and evaluative methods in education develop a positive outlook in students. Thus, creating
happy mood, effective learning and better memory.
