SOCIAL PSYCHOLOGY AND SOCIAL ISSUES AFFECTING PEOPLE IN
SOCIAL CARE SERVICES
Social psychology refers to the study of the behaviour of the people. It includes
the feelings, beliefs, goals, thoughts, objectives and the intentions that are constructed as per the
social context. The nature as well as the cause of the behaviour of the individual differs
according to the social situations (Chester and Lasko, 2021). In other words it is one of the
branch of the psychology that gave emphasis or focuses on the social influences regarding the
behaviour and the thoughts of the people. It also examines the overall behaviour as well as the
beliefs of an individual in respect of the rest whole world. It includes or involves the wide range
or the various types of social topics such as conformity, obedience and also the group influence.
These topics or the factors plays an important role in influencing the behaviour of an individual
regarding the society.
Conformity refers to the tendency or the intensity to change or give impact on the
opinions, behaviours, beliefs of an individual so that they can be able to fit in the society which
means they should behave according to the needs and the requirement of the society. On the
other hand obedience refers to the form of social influence that mainly includes the rules and the
regulation or the orders of the society that should be followed by each and every individual.
Whereas the group influence means the impact of the group on the individual's behaviour and
also on the decisions taken by them (Ejelöv and Luke, 2020). It also includes the concepts of
obedience as well as the conformity.
In the context of the social psychology, the case study mentioned is Kitty Genovese
murder in New York City. This case study is one of the best example of the irresponsible
behaviour of an individual or the neighbour as the person could not tries to put steps forward in
order to help the lady whose life is in danger. This reflect the irresponsible or the negligible
behaviour of the person which is not good or appropriate for the betterment or the improvement
of the society.
There are various or the several issues that are affecting the people as well as the whole
society mainly the people in the social care services. Some of the common issues are class and
income, race and ethnicity, disability, opioid epidemic, gender identity, legal status, etc. Apart
from these issues one of the major issues is the parental abuse or neglect (Pollock and et.al.,
2020). This challenged is faced mostly by the urban people or it is the issue of mainly the urban

areas. In this context the case study mentioned is "chapae" in South Korea. This case study is the
example of the parental neglect as in this a child is suffering from the disorder called autism
which means the delay in the development of mind or the slow growth of the mental status. The
child faces many issues and the problems related to this disorder and is only because of the
unawareness about the autism in the parents and they are also responsible for the negligence of
the situation.
Some of the other issues or the challenges faced by the people in the social care services
are the disable persons does not get the proper care and the services in order to overcome the
disabled condition (Allen and et.al., 2019). If they are getting the proper treatment or the care
from the people of the social care services they can be able to live their lives in the better form or
condition. Age discrimination is also one of the major challenge that is faced by the society as
many people related to the social care services do not give the proper attention towards the old
citizens of the society. The behaviour of the people is not good or they neglect the age group of
old people which means the persons having the age above 60 years.
In addition to the above discussion, unemployment, racism, unequal opportunity,
malnutrition and the poverty are some other social issues that are related to the whole society or
the social care services people (Greenberg and et.al., 2020). Among these issues one of the major
problem is the child abuse and the negligence of the people towards the children who are facing
the problem of any kind of disorder. These issues must be consider by the people of social care
services even it is the responsibility of the whole society that includes each and every individual.
