SOCIALIZATION 1
Introduction
In today’s time, socialization is basic in every part of life and so does in sport. Every
specific sport has a different behaviour to acquire as the process of learning including beliefs,
attitudes, and values (Tenorio, 2018). This paper is the reflection of ways where I am
socialized in sport along with the discussion on opportunities availability and the impact of
sport. Also, the discussion includes analysing the sport identities and the changes in that
particular sport with time while knowing reasons as well. And, the sport I am socialized in is
‘Basketball’.
Socialization
Socialization is introducing individuals with social customs and norms where this
process helps them to function well and smoothly in the society (Cole, 2020). Even
considering any sport, socialization helps an individual in personality formation along with
encouraging attitudes and beliefs specifically, and experiences as well while interacting with
others.
Socialized into sport
According to me, socialization into sport is involving in a particular sport playing role
as spectator, coach, or athlete. In sports, socialization consists of individual’s characteristics
and abilities, the availability of opportunities and experience after playing to achieve success,
and impact of teachers, parents, peers, and siblings. Basketball is my favourite sport that
made me socialize with people by working is a team and interacting with players. Also,
communicating for making the game effective. This sport provides many ways for meeting
new people along with upraising self-confidence after getting support from the team
(Quiambao, 2012). Thus, there is improvisation in my ability to socialize from the time I
started playing basketball.
Opportunities availability for sports and its impact
There is a development in children playing sports in relation to social skills where
individuals learn to have communication with teammates, give teamwork value, and taking
care of responsibility by accepting at the time of playing a team sport. Basketball provided

me opportunities and encouraged to participate in athletes. Also, the opportunities in terms of
socialization includes knowledge-building, leadership, and challenge along with being
competent, feel in-control, and connected with everyone (Ioan-Sabin & Marcel, 2014).
According to me, the impact from basketball was my capacity to engage personally with
development enhancement through opportunities for psychological and physical
development. Basketball as a sport provides opportunities for me to connect with others,
taking on challenges, building relationships, and leadership promoting the role of overall
well-being, personal and talent development through socialization. Basketball helps in team
work, physical fitness, confidence, coordination, and social skills.
Sport identities
An athletic identity is acquisition development through social interaction, skills, and
confidence at the time of playing sport (Chidley, 2019). An identity in sport I play leads to
sense of self strongly and sureness about who I am. It helps me in boosting self-confidence,
positive social interactions and self-discipline. Basketball is the sports that have been pre-
eminent within the culture of African-American. It is important to have an identity as a team
player for the success of sport after pursuing to win the outcome. Here, the identity consists
of beliefs and qualities (Haefner, 2019). For me, it is easy to socialize while being an identity
through my sport played with the team through visibility and high priority for a positive
development impact. In the world, basketball is the most popular sports and known the most
in America because of its popularity.
Changes in sport with reasons
In basketball, the changes made in terms of rule are in relation to the court
boundaries, number of players, and center jump elimination after made baskets, and
dribbling. The changes made in positions and defensive rule as basketball is becoming more
about the team rather than based on position where there is lack of called isolations and ball
movement is valued. The reason to bring change is due to defence and talent base harnessing
globally (McMahan, 2018). Thus, change in the sport results in team-oriented, fast brand of
basketball hitting high popularity. Along with 13 rules of basketball there is evolution for
making game more fluid, entertaining, and up-tempo with few rules getting changed.

Conclusion
To conclude, Basketball is a sport to socialize in being both recreational and
competitive along with positive attributes in terms of wellness and health as well. This sport
creates psychosocial interactions positively and is a fun to play with a team for long-term
involvement encouragement and providing benefits. The development of identity makes
socializing better while being in a team. The changes made for teams to play game effectively
without using any offensive strategy and making a revolution. So, this game makes me
involve with people and help in socializing.
