It has been seen that low socioeconomic status is related to the position of an individual
in the society. The position of an individual is determined in terms of income, education, and
occupation. It has been seen that depression is a state in which the interest in the activities are
lost and also it is considered as a mental disorder.
Low economic status is related to the high psychiatric disability and poor access to health
care. In the United States, it is seen that there are many people who are suffering from depression
just because of socioeconomic status. The model longitudinal focuses on the change which takes
place in an individual and it has shown an increase in poverty, deprivation and financial strain in
the United States. The effect is more on women if a comparison is made with men [1].
The people are depressed with their low economic status and it is enhancing the
depression of many people. Low economic status has affected depression. It can be analyzed that
the weak economies of United States have enhanced the rate of unemployment. There are many
companies who closed doors for giving employment to the people. There are many other
companies who decided to ship their factories overseas so that money can be saved by giving
employment to the foreign workers at low cost. Earlier it was seen that the United States has a
good quality job and they offer good and attractive wages with extra benefits. But in the recent
situation, people are facing problem in relation to the reduction in the jobs. Now finding a job in
the United States is a difficult task for many people [2]. Employment has not given an adverse
effect on the individuals but also impacted the families of the individual. It has been seen that
there are many individuals who are focusing on collecting the unemployment benefits from a
fraction of their previous salary. These changes are giving impact on the socio-economic status
of the individual and by not having job and money people are suffering from depression. All
these decisions which were taken by the company have resulted in the low economic status and
resulted in depression.
Next is related to the lack of affordable housing. It has been evaluated that the gap is
enhancing the wage earnings and also the housing cost in the United States. There are many
families who are not focusing on satisfying the needs. The house rent has enhanced which has

created a depression for people. The individuals are now worried and the outcome is related to
the low socioeconomic status. Due to lack of affordable housing people are suffering from
depression and also it is affecting the socio-economic position of an individual living in the
United States.
It has also been seen in Mississippi that there is problem related with low economic status
of people. People have to face various issues related to health and low wage jobs. It has been
analyzed that there is low wage jobs in nation. This area is considered a most vulnerable area in
nation. In this nation there is vigorous boom in economy. When the issue related with low wage
jobs are seen it has been seen that people are not able to access the food and also there is no
proper services avail in the supermarkets. The people who are willing to work earn low wages
can lead to lack of food and services offered by the supermarkets. People are not able to work in
a proper manner as the wages that are not sufficient to conduct the activities. In Mississippi
poverty rate is high which give adverse effect on the individuals. It has also seen that when
people are not able to earn more and have no access to food then it can lead to depression. Many
people are depressed due to low economic status and it is not possible for them to live a happy
life. They have to face health problems related to depression [3].
So, by analyzing the paper it has been concluded that poor economy and lack of
affordable housing has resulted in the low socio-economic status and people living in United
State are depressed.
