A case manager is a person who provides help to the people who are in need and then their
role is to help them to achieve their goals (Balvin and Kashima, 2012). For this, they first find
out the reason behind the issue, try to solve it and provides proper help and support to those
people. Instead of this, a case manager has other roles as well such as maintaining a sort of
relationship with the client and their supporters as well, makes a proper plan for the person,
provide all possible features which can provide help to the individual. After setting the situation,
closing of the case and documenting it also comes inside it.

Family: Out of everyone, family is considered as the one who has the major role in shaping the
life of the people. It may be the family of a single mother or a single father or even a complete
family, the family always thinks the best possible ways for shaping the carrer of the person.

of the people. Whether it may be the means of media or radio or by newspapers and magazines,
they are considered as effective and faster ways of transferring the information.

Health system: In the health system, there are various public as well as private providers.
Although there, not everyone has equal outcomes but it consists of various private and public
bodies such as nurses, practitioners etc. for help and support.
1.5 Defining Inequality
Inequality can be considered as the difference in the factors of two different people and it
can be concerned with any general factors such as social status, wealth, race etc. (Wanberg,
2012). Inequality on the basis of colour, race etc. is considered as discrimination which is not
allowed at all as the Equality Act 2010 says everyone should be treated equally and anyone
found guilty of this may have to pay huge penalties and can be suspended as well.
1.6 Impact of inequality on individuals and society
Inequality can actually increase the stress and anxiety levels of an individual, which can
prove very harmful for the health of the person. It also affects the economic level of the society
as the societies with lesser or no equality are also not financially stable and is having various
other socio-cultural issues as well.
1.7 Stereotypes
Stereotype is considered as a sort of thought about some particular type of people or their
way of behaving for representing the complete group or set of people (Vourlekis, 2017). It is not
necessary that their thoughts and ideas are similar with that of the reality outside but they make
them in their mind and starts believing that only. A very common example of it can be
considered as the people who are usually poor and are been stereotyped as substance abusers.
Also, it includes the people who are being lazy most of the times. Also, a very basic example
can be that if a woman is passing by a dark street at night and five men are standing there at a
distance of half of a meter, she waits in a convenience store till the men can go from there, so the

women however stereotypes those men as harmful and dangerous and to such situation, many
people will also make correct revelations about the thought of the women.
1.8 Stereotypes, the client may face
While working with the clients in a socio-economic suburb, the client may have to face
some stereotypes such as the difference in material wealth. Along with this, the clients may also
have to deal with tangible factors such as stereotypes and their beliefs but they can think much
negative as compared to any positive factor. So, the clients may have to face such difficulties.
1.9 Disadvantages Australian's face because of age
Although there can be various factors that can act as disadvantages for the people in the
Australian society because of their age but two common and well known are discussed as
following. Stereotypes, as younger or older ones’ act as one of the main reasons for promoting
discrimination in various fields, especially in employment. Mature workers in the organisation
have to face it at its most. But in such case, the Age Discrimination Act can prove helpful for
such individuals. Whether it is the case of employment, education or some other, this act can
provide support to such people. Young people are also considered to be affected by the same.
There are various factors that are concerned with it and these include affordability of the housing
and other facilities, unemployment etc.
1.10 Likely experience and outcomes of the Young member accompanied
The young member might face discrimination but one thing that can be ensured here is the
Age Discrimination Act, as it provides some security and protection to the young ones. But
there are chances that the young one might be discriminated as well. Also, the young one
may have to face the inequality because of his age. He may face inequality in any factor
such as housing affordability, costs of tertiary education etc.
1.11 Effects of long term unemployment on the person and family
Any person under long term unemployment may have to face inequality in various areas as
it is clear enough that the employers select only those who must be having some
experience of one or two years or more, so for the person under unemployment, it is hard
to get a job, so the person may have to face inequality and it might affect the person and
the family members to a higher extent. The issue is that the organisations want experienced
employees and it is tough for the unemployed to survive.

1.12 Disadvantages of being disabled in the Australian society
In the Australian society, people who are disabled are not able to participate as other
members. Also, they face discrimination by other people. They discriminate them on being
disabled but this is not allowed at all as per the Equality Act 2010.
1.13 Potential disadvantages faced by the clients
Indigenous people and people in Australia have their own past relation. Also, most of
these people are referred to as stolen generation because they all are being affected by a policy.
In this policy, the government has done a forceful exclusion of the aboriginal children from their
families. So, the new clients may also have to face the same situation because they might also
feel the phase and sense of shorter life expectancies along with the higher infant mortality rates.
1.14 Purpose and utilisation of social policy by government
The actual purpose of social policy is to make sure that people should have an efficient
standard for living and also, everyone should be treated equally. Also, to provide help and
support by providing various services to people who are actually in need. The government while
making policies, ensures the fact that the addressing of the issue will be done in an efficient and
appropriate manner that must be involving its actual cause and solutions. Also, in various cases,
the government takes decisions linked to maximising the funding for various initiatives or for
continuing the work and services with groups and teams.
1.15 Impact of community service organisations
Specific government policies have a positive impact on the community based services as
various decisions that are taken by the government are connected to the fact of increasing the
funding status so that a better work can be done in order to achieve effective outcomes.
1.16 Considering the case
a) As per case, the two socio cultural institutions that can be considered here is the family
and the education system. It is because the family has the major role in shaping the
carrier and behaviour of a child and after that it is the responsibility of the education
system, in which the child has been involved to make sure to maintain all the ethics and
other factors that are necessary to make up the future.
b) As they were not from Australia and were just migrated there, also, they were working as
farmers, so they discriminated themselves by their own and because of it they admitted
Danh seven years late to the school. Their visible insecurity leads the people to do

inequality with them. Also, the parents remain isolated most of the time and did not made
any interaction with other near ones, so everyone discriminated them because they
provided a chance to them for being discriminated.
c) Long term unemployment of Danh’s parents were one of the reason that they were
insecure and also after migrated to Australia, they were working as farmers because every
organisation and employer want experienced workers. It however impacted on Danh as
well as his parents admitted him to school after seven years, which also became one of
the reasons why Danh faced inequality among all.
d) As Danh has been discriminated so much that he wants to change his religion as well. As
his parents believe in Buddhism but he wants to become a monk. Danh is unaware of the
fact that he is very small enough to take such big decisions and that is what his teachers
wants him to understand. He is also unaware of the fact that proper procedures and
actions are to be performed for such activities. The teachers are waiting him to get a quite
bigger and understand the situation properly and then focus on taking such decisions.

Some organisations make use of the psychosocial assessment because they refer it as a
means of a better way by which they can identify their health concerns and other risk factors
involved (Ballantine and Hammack, 2015). They consider psychosocial and behavioural
concerns as one of the bigger cause for causing social and health related issues to the clients.

Issue: Drug addiction of Kirra and the fact that she wants to drop out of school
Reason for problem: Kirra’s mother being raised in Stolen generation as she was forcefully
removed from her family and that impacted the life of her further generations as well. This
dysfunctional childhood made her to take drugs to cope with the stress and tensions.
Problem causer: Root cause of the issue is society that how they deal with the stolen generation
people and her kids were being impacted.
When the issue occurred: The problem is not recent and is intergenerational.
2.6 Facilitation of decision making with clients
A case manager ensures to facilitate informed decision making with the clients by
providing them the efficient information and also, providing in front of them all possible options
that they can decide by their own that out of all, which one they want to adopt as per their
relevance. For this, the case managers should have a proper understanding of all that so that they
can present it to the clients efficiently and appropriately.
2.7 Considering the case
a) In this case, for collecting the information, the case manager may contact his other
friends, family or other concerned people. It is essential because on the basis of that only,
the case manager can take any further step that can prove beneficial for Datu. So, for

gathering the information about him, one of the best way is to interact with his family and
friends so that the case manager can get an efficient amount of true information. After
that only, the case manager can be able to decide the further steps.
b) While working with Datu, the fact that is to be ensured is that he is already insecure and
unhappy after shifting to Australia, so it should be kept in mind to not involve any factor
that may hurt him more. Making him comfortable is also equally important so, the case
manager will ensure to make him comfortable enough that he will discuss every issue he
will face. As he is new to Australia, so it is obvious that he might not like the situations
as it were in Philippines. Also, there must be different rules and regulations than in
Australia, so there is a possibility that after some time, Datu will be used to it. So, till
then providing him patience and support can be considered as the only responsibility.
c) Datu’s need is to not do homework and rather than that, he wishes to roam after school as
he was to do in Philippines. Although these activities are new for him but can actually
prove helpful in increasing the sitting of the person and also in making an understanding
of the topics well. So, he can be sit and explained that although these things are new but
can help in his future. So, adjusting in the new atmosphere is the best option.

3.1 Importance of monitoring the case management practice
It is very important to monitor the practice of the case management because it permits the
case manager to analyse their own efforts and practices, that how much of them have been
progressive enough to achieve the targets and also keeping the potential issues on priority.
3.2 Ways of monitoring the progress
The case managers should be responsible enough to monitor the management plan on a
regular basis, which is achieved by maintaining an interaction with the service providers along
with client. Also, keeping a record about the collected data is important for the case managers.
So, by these means, a case manager can effectively monitor their progress.
3.3 Methods of recording information
Although, recording of the information can be done in various ways but the two most
effective ways can be considered as recording in case notes, having a feedback form because

case notes will consist of all the information of the client’s file and feedbacks are a great source
of analysing that if there are some modifications required in the process, so that work can be
done upon them to make it effective (Bennett and Golub, 2012).
3.4 Need of considering the potential impact of social and cultural factors
Every client is different, so there may be the possibility that the client is not able to
achieve the expected goals. So, in such cases, the case manager can provide a holistic and
individualised approach to the clients. Also, for ensuring that then the clients are doing well, a
case manager can start taking feedbacks because the clients themselves can easily tell their actual
position.
3.5 Benefits of ongoing monitoring and review
Ongoing monitoring and review, along with helping in monitoring the effectiveness, also
helps in reflecting on someone’s work and also, it acts as a sort of motivation with regards to
continuous learning (Şahin and et.al., 2014). So, the case managers should be ready for every
new change and technique to adopt.

3.7 Ways of monitoring as per the case
a) The case manager may monitor the work of Clara by keeping a record for all the
observations taken. Also, the case manager can make a proper case plan when they
seem that their targets and goals are being achieved. Also, taking feedbacks is also
considered as a better option because a client knows better where they actually stand
and also, they are aware of their areas where they need some modification, so by
considering these ways, the case manager can keep a check on the working and
performance of Clara. This will help in going the process effectively.
b) Reflection upon actions: I think somewhere I lacked in maintaining a proper interaction
with her, that is the reason she accepted the fact about her parents after a long while. I
think I tried my best and used as possible options to make use of for helping her but I
might have interacted her more reliably so that she would have told me about her
family and economic status because if she would have told me this all, I might have
used some other method to resolve her issue.

c) I will make sure to make her admission in some institute where she can learn how to
use computers and then, I will help her financially to purchase a computer so that she
can be able to use it and then, she will also write her resume and can apply for various
jobs according to her own relevance. By these means, she will also gain much
confidence, which will help her in achieving the targets as gaining a job etc.
3.8 Considering the case
a) The case manager will make sure to involve record keeping of their tests on a regular
basis to check whether any one of them has consumed alcohol in recent days or not. It can
be considered as a better way of monitoring because a record keeping factor can help in
analysing better than the other factors involved.
b) After taking feedbacks that the course activities are not relative enough, which means
they are not successful enough in excluding the habit of alcohol, then the case manager
may try to involve some other activities that can prove beneficial enough and are effective
as well. Taking feedbacks is essential because it helps in getting an idea that what area
needs some sort of improvement. So, the case manager can focus on involving some new
way which can help people in removing the habit of taking alcohol.
