One thing that has always interested me is the fact that our actions indeed have a large
impact on the ways we act. It also has the impacts on the social structure as well. I believe all
these issues have a huge reflection on the everyday life of the human beings. I have studied
sociology for four years and sociology has made me able to study about the elements that have
impacted on our daily lives effectively. Therefore, I would look to shift my focus to go through
the different aspects of sociology in my further studies. My first aim will be to study in a
graduate school.
I have been studying about crime because it is one of the most crucial features of any
society. The studying or criminology will give me the understanding of how I can comprehend
the causes of criminality in the society. I had the opportunity to study the different types of crime
like white-collar crime and terrorism. Apart from that I have also studied about the different
criminal justice systems in countries like United States and China. I went through the official
website of my university and I found that Dr. had discussed about this subject matter with much
precision. I thought that this is very important for me to learn in a burgeoning career. I have been
guided by the departmental mentor and I hope that my knowledge will be expanded if I can
understand the criminal justice system of Canada. Therefore, I would be able to make
comparisons between the criminal justice systems of various countries. As an example, I can say
that I have found some of methods and relevant programs that would discuss about the
punishments and rehabilitations of the people who were found guilty regarding sexual abuse of
children. Country like Korea uses the biological procedures like the chemical castration and
electronic monitoring as well. These are done to punish the sexual offenders. The sex offender
registry has been maintained in USA and Canada so they can track the sex offenders. As I have
compared the differences I have understood that the countries respond to these crimes and

perpetrators in different ways. We can draw these examples of different countries and we can
also use them in our system to improve it.
In the recent times, I got to read about the cyber bullying in Macau. I have learnt this
crime can cause huge mental problems within the children. I have also gained the knowledge that
some education professionals have not regarded it as an issue. As use of internet and other
technologies are increasing, the cases of cyber bullying are increasing as well. Therefore, I will
look to use my professional educational skills and make the parents aware of the dangers that
cyber bullying can cause. I will use some criminological theories like social learning theory,
general strain theory, routine activity theory and rational choice theory so I can be able to
provide some effective means how I can tackle this issue. Apart from that I will also collect some
data from the three administrative regions like mainland China, Macau and Hong Kong and
compare them to understand the differences between traditional bullying and cyber bullying.
Many scholars have already conducted the proper research on this topic. I will try to put in some
of their conclusions in this segment as well as contribute to their considerations as well. I will
also collect some data through the primary and secondary researches in the schools of Macau by
means of quantitative and qualitative methods. I will make a summary of each type of survey
questions and make a systematic analysis. At last, I will apply the criminological theory and my
goal will be to offer recommendations to the schools, local governments, legislatures and the
courts. The preventions strategy should be formulated for my research. My goal is to raise the
awareness and decrease the rates of cyber bullying.
Apart from criminological issues, I have grave concerns about the gender inequality as
well. I suppose I was wrong in assuming that gender inequality existed in the conservative
countries but I have come to know that it is a growing menace in some of the developed

countries as well. As stated by Emma Watson in the UN, no country will be able to say that they
have attained the gender inequality. I want to make positive contributions to the research
regarding the ways the women would be able to attain their rights in society and gain the respect
in the society as well. I will also look to take some measures that will help the women to be
progressive in the countries. The feminist movements are on to provide the equal opportunities to
the women regarding equal opportunities in jobs, salaries and marriage. However, the traditional
beliefs in the countries are taking it backwards indeed. I also believe the improvements should be
done on the conditions of the intersex and transgender people in the society. The rights of
women should be defended at any cause. However, I believe that the rights of the minority
groups like intersex children and transgender persons should be acknowledged. The ethical side
of intersex children receiving the sex-assignment surgery should also be in my focus. In my
opinion, the males suffer from unexpected social pressure and inequality. If the Chinese males do
not acquire a reputable job, they are not given the proper respect within the society. On the other
hand, the females should also be gorgeous to find a suitable husband.
My ideal school will be UC since my research interests are almost identical to the areas
of the department. Dr. Cora’s publications are mostly regarding gender inequality, economical
development and criminal justice. It is my belief that my research expertise will grow under the
guidance of the supervisor. I have full faith in the quantitative and qualitative methods and I
believe it will improve my research experience. I will opt to choose the multicultural countries
since it will provide me with opportunities for working with different cultures and ethnicities. I
believe Canada should my first choice to relocate as it is a multicultural and peaceful country.
I am sure that there will be lots of research works with challenges. Therefore, I want to
choose a calm city with beautiful scenery so I can focus perfectly on my work. I have not done

properly in my first two years of university and I am trying my best to cover it up and earn best
grades. I have applied to UC for an extended time and I believe that I will be able to show my
best academic skills if I am given the opportunity.
