Evelyn Wilson: The first recipient of the Peter Soumalias unsung hero honour
(Toronto, ON) October 27, 2015 – The Walk of Fame of Canada declared the recipient of the
Peter Soumalias Unsung Hero honour. The mentioned honour is a new initiative taken by the
Canadian government to provide recognition to a special Canadian whose outstanding work in
the arts, culture or sports possess the potential to impose positive impact on the community along
with inspiring the next generation. The first recipient of this honour is Evelyn Wilson.
Along with being a devoted mother as well as a wife, Evelyn is also a caregiver in her own
community. According to Evlyn’s husband, Brent, “she always had a passion to make a
difference and who selflessly donates so much of her time to help those in our community.”
Some of her major contribution to the community comes from the tragedies of her own family.
She had lost her twin brother when she was two years old and in 2010, she lost her 15 years old
daughter to cancer. In spite of her own tragedic life, she remained a source of comfort as well as
support for the members of her community. She is committed to raise funds for local families
who have to travel approximately 100-300 miles for seeking treatment for their child with
cancer. Evlyn established a bereaved mothers support group where she was a motivated speaker
at a good number of events where she shared her story and promotes childhood cancer
awareness.
According to Melane Hurley, the CEO of Canada’s walf of Fame, ““Evelyn has worked through
her tragedy to make a profound impact on the lives of others and is an inspirational example of
the power of endurance,” She is definately someone who gave herself for making her community
a better place.
