Immigration is generally defined to be the movement of individuals to a country of
which they are not natives. People generally immigrate to other countries usually for business
or educational purposes. Then they generally settle in the country and become citizens of that
country. But recently in the U.S., there have been policy which includes building a wall to
prevent people from other countries immigrating into the country.
This essay aims to explore whether building a wall in the country will solve the
problems of immigration in the country or not.
Although the U.S. have declared recently, that it aims to build a wall to prevent more
people from other countries from immigrating to the U.S., the policy has drawn several
controversies from critics and the opposition in politics. However, there are various reasons
why the U.S. would want to build a wall. First of all, it would be to prevent immigrants who
are entering the country illegally. This might be a problem for the U.S. as these illegal
immigrants might have intentions that are not exactly ideal. A second reason for the U.S
might build a wall is that if these immigrants come into the country, then they will get
employed and take over all of the jobs themselves which will leave the American youth
unemployed. Moreover, it will also help to keep the Mexicans and the Hispanics out of the
U.S. as stated by The President Donald Trump. These are the various reasons why the U.S.
have decided to build a wall in the country so that the illegal immigrants from other countries
would not be able to enter the U.S.
As stated by Denata (291), the concept of building a wall is nothing new. After the
Second World War, Germany was divided into East and West Germany, where immigrants
from one side were not allowed to visit their friends and relatives to the other side of the
country. The U.S. building a wall will be similar in that the people from other countries will
not be able to enter the country illegally. They would have to produce proper documents and

other necessary requirements to make sure that they are allowed entry into the country. All
these measures are being taken to ensure the safety of the people of the country and to make
sure that the American youth do not stay unemployed and can find suitable jobs for
themselves which will help them to earn money and provide food to their family members
(Roscoe, 36).
Just like the supporters of this policy, there are also others who oppose the idea of
building a wall to prevent immigrants from coming into the country. Generally, the idea is
that the government is wasting their money in building a wall as it will not prevent the
immigrants from entering the country. As stated by Denata (290), the reason is that the
immigrants will finds other ways to enter the country itself and as a result, the money will be
wasted. The other reason why it will not be successful is because of the fact that if the wall
prevents immigrants from entering the country, The U.S. will suffer from losses in business
and trade Moreover, those countries might not be willing to do business with the U.S. if their
countrymen are not allowed entry into the U.S.. They might not allow U.S. based companies
to enter and do business in their markets. As a result, the U.S might suffer losses in their
foreign trade also. All these reasons are the causes why the U.S. building a wall to prevent the
immigrants into the country will fail and will not be successful (Garrett, 183).
As stated by Yang (6), the U.S. needs to make special measures to make sure that
only those immigrant s would be allowed in the country who can show proper documentation
papers. Only then the country can be safe from criminals and terrorists and jobs will be
equally shared between the immigrants as well as the Americans.
From the above discussion. It can be seen that the U.S. building wall to keep out the
immigrants has both positive and negative effects on the country. While some people support
the policy, others are in opposition to the policy. However, the U.S. needs to make sure that

even if they allow the immigrants to enter the country, they must make sure that the
immigrants can show proper documentation and enters the country. This will lead to the
country being safe from the terrorists as well as jobs equally distributed among the
Americans and the immigrants.
