INTRODUCTION
Prosthetic makeup also known as FX Prosthesis and special make-up effects. It is refer as
an effective process of applying prosthetic sculpting, casting and molding techniques to develop
advanced cosmetic effects (Debreceni, 2018). Main purpose of conducting this essay is to
analysis the impact of special effects in makeup. This essay is divided into two parts which
covers different products, tools and equipments used within the special effects industry. Along
with this importance of patch testing and health and safety legislation are also discussed in this
report.
PART A:
Special effects are identify as a visual or illusions tricks used in the television, film, video
game, theatre and simulator industries in order to simulate the imagined events in a virtual world
or story (10 Must have FX Products to have in your kit, 2016). In special effects make-up,
different range of products are used such as 1) Blood i.e. Blood gel, blood powder, Spray and
Squirt blood, Eye blood, etc. 2) Scar Wax, 3) Gelatin or 3D gel, 4) Liquid Latex, 5) Stipple
sponge, 6) Bruise, Burn and FX Wheels, 7) Adhesives, 8) Alcohol Palettes, 9) Silicone, 10) Fixer
Spray etc. All these are main products which is used in special effects and available for live
productions, detailing the associated risks. Thus, with the help of above mentioned all products,
an artist can play their role and attract different number of audience in an effective and proper
manner.
Patch test is refer as an effective method used to analysis whether a particular substance
causes allergic inflammation of individual's skin (Failes, 2016). Any person suspected of having
atopic dermatitis or allergic contact dermatitis needs patch testing. It is more important and
essential to repeat people patch test on regular basis. As repeated view to a product can
eventually create into an allergy. Along with this, customer's comfort, well being and safety,
patch teasing is refer as an insurance need and is essential for the strong reputation of company.
It is also essential and effective because this supports to analysis which component may be
causing a delayed-kind allergic reaction in an individual. Another importance of patch testing is
it identify allergens not analysed by skin prick testing or blood testing.
Special effects hazards or dangers can cause different kinds of injuries and in extreme
cases, death. It can be cover flash/eye injuries, slips and falls, Burns, hearing problems and many

cancer and many other fatal illnesses. Therefore, impact of special effects also effected on person
life in long time in various ways including cancer, skin damage, infection in eye and many other.
Health and safety legislation for effects: Control of Substances Hazardous to Health
(COSHH) act 2002 describe the employers requirement to either reduce or prevent their
employees' exposure in order to substances that are dangers or hazardous to their health. It is the
important that safe working process are enforced so that dangers to people health are decreased.
COSHH rules and regulations should be purely implemented and risk assessments executed on
all chemicals (Middleton, 2018). Some ingredients in cleaning and beauty products including
solvents in thinner or nail polish removers can irritate the people skin and lead to dermatitis.

Matilda (Miss Trunchbull): Matilda is an American Fantasy comedy film directed in
1996 by Danny DeVito. In this program, Miss Trunchbull is a main character that play vital role
for programming in successful manner. In such program, Miss Trunchbull used different
products in Make-up such as preparing for the base makeup, adding the contour lines, plenty of
padding, stained teeth are the finishing touch etc. All these are main products which are used by
the main character in such program and highly impact on the person body. They also applied
different techniques to save the negative effect of makeup. Thus, such type of makeup in long
time is extremely impacted on their own life, body, mind and so on. This makeup can have
damaging impacts on users. Persons are already treating with skin problems from genes, germs
and hormones around them (Vega and Fuks, 2016). Adding makeup can lead to infections in eye
such as staph infections, pink eye, acne cosmetics and many other issues about health. makeup in
long time is also impacted on person in different ways such as headaches, hair problem, acne,
skin allergies, eye infections, infertility, premature ageing, hormonal imbalance, cancer, skin
discoloration etc.
Phantom of the Opera: It is identify as a program of music which is music by Andrew
Lloyd Webber. The Phantom is a prodigial musician in such program. In this program, Phantom
used different makeup elements such as eyelash glue, yellow grease paint, anti frizz hair serum,
Eye colour, Eye liner, dirty little secret, covergirl, makeup revoluti, ipsy, False eyelashes etc.
They also apply various application tools such as cotton swabs, foundation brushes, Boltting
papers, Dusting or fan power brushes and many other (Ferguson, 2016). All these products are

used because this make attractive and attract different audience towards program. When they
perform at stage, all these products and techniques are highly effect on Phantom live
performance. In this products, different risks are involved such all these impact on eyes, skin and
many other parts of body. In long hours, such type of make is highly damage individual face,
eyes etc.
CONCLUSION:
From the above mentioned information, it can be concluded that special effect is more
effective on the individual life. In special effects make-up, different number of products are used
which effect the people body. In order to overcome such effects, patch testing is more essential
as well as COSHH (Health and safety legislation) help the individual. There are mainly two
character in different programs and used various techniques and products. All these product is
highly impacted on the character's eyes, skin, lips and many other parts of body.
