Title of Research
Proposed title for the current research project is to ‘Study the impact Speech recognition on day
to day lives.’
Introduction
Speech can be considered as a complex phenomenon and human rarely understand the overall
techniques the speech is perceived or produced. According to naive perception, speech is made
up of words and every word consists of phones. However, in reality speech is very different. As
it can be considered as a dynamic process that has distinguish parts. Modern definition of speech
can be considered as some degree of probabilistic. Translation of Speech to text and also to other
applications cannot be considered to be correct 100%. Thus, software developers usually work
with deterministic systems.
In terms of science and technology, Speech recognition is considered to be the ability of devices
to respond effectively and in real time according to some spoken commands. Currently with
advancing technology and high dependency of human being upon on technologically advanced
tools, the smart devices with integrated speech recognition technology are gaining more
popularity. Speech recognition enables a person to have hands-free control over different various
equipment and devices, creates dictation that are print-ready and also provide input for
translation automatically. Some of the common and earliest applications for this technology are
medical dictation software and automated telephone systems (Dalby, and Kewley, 1999.). In
most case, speech recognition is used frequently for querying databases, for dictation, and
commanding systems that are to computer-based, offer personal assistants in smart-phones and
vehicles etc.
Before a machine interprets any speech, the microphone of the device is capable of translating
vibrations of the voice into electrical signal. The wavelike signals are then converted to digital
signals by the hardware of the system like sound card. The speech recognition software then

analyses the digital for recognizing the different phonemes. As discussed earlier phonemes are
considered to be the building blocks of any speech. These phonemes are recombined together to
form words. In any language, there are many words that has similar sound, therefore to recognize
the appropriate word utter by the user the speech recognition program rely on the actual context.
It has been found that many of the software of Speech regeneration establish the context via
trigram analysis that is on the basis of database considering most frequently used three-word
clusters by assigning probabilities in which two words will be followed by a particular third
word.
In case of Programs used for recognizing some isolated words, like in telephone voice navigation
systems the same system can work for every user. However, in case of continuous speech
programs, like dictation programs, the system must be trained effectively for recognizing speech
pattern of an individual. With smart devices like the overall error rates in speech recognition has
been reduced to 5 % with vocabularies of more than ten thousand words. With improvement in
speech recognition, it is being implemented in different places and sectors to raise the level of
convenience.
Research question
To conduct the research project on the selected topic, some questions were selected that proves
as a project base line for understating the Speech recognition and its impact upon on day to day
live.
 What are the effects of speech recognition on our daily lives?
 Where is speech recognition used in business organizations?
 How does the speech recognition works?
 What are common devices available for speech recognition?

In the current project the Aims that I would like to receive after completion of the project to
understand impact Speech recognition on day to day life.

By conducting the research on the basis of qualitative and quantitative method that results that
are expected are:
 To identify influence of Voice recognition on human life
 To determine impact of Voice recognition on the business performance
 To identify pros and cons of Voice recognition.
Rationale
The core objective of the current research project is to understand and analyse the impacts of
Speech recognition upon human live. Advancement of science and technology has encouraged
human to be more dependent on smart machine for convenience and ease. Thus, Speech
recognition software and hardware are becoming integral part of human lives and various
business organization with different benefits including reducing the business costs, simplification
of outdated processes, and enhancing the overall efficiency.
This kind of research project studies will be very supporting considering the point of view of a
researcher for enhancing their present knowledge base. Considering the current scenario, the
researcher of the project to get in-depth knowledge need to gather information and knowledge
regarding Speech recognition and perception of different users. With the support of the present
project, future researcher can also be conducted considering the consumer behaviour related to
Speech recognition technology and devices. Additionally, with advent of advance technology
Speech recognition can be considered as an importance aspect of current business scenario and
as well as human life. Thus, the considered research topic will support the researcher for
conducting in-depth analysis of data collected from different sources in effective manner.
Literature review
Speech recognition
According to the Yu and Deng, (2016), speech recognition can be defined as the capability of the
machine or systems in identifying and recognizing the phrases and words in the spoken language
and then converting them in the machine-readable form or format. There are limited vocabulary
of phrases and words in the Rudimentary speech recognition system or software that cannot

identify and recognize phrases and words which are not spoken clearly while, other
sophisticated speech recognition system or software accept and identify natural speech.
How does speech recognition works?
According to the Besacier et.al (2014), in the current time, the speech recognition systems,
software or programs use in the both professional as well as personal life or in business
organizations as well as in daily routine life at home or offices. There are numbers of software,
systems, machines and programs that allows and enable users to dictate their computer systems
and convert their words in word documents in which function commands can be accessed with
the voice instructions. The working of the speech recognition can be ensured by using the
algorithms through language and acoustic modelling. the relationships between the audio signals
and linguistic units of speech is represented by the acoustic modelling and inn which sound is
match by the language modelling with the word sequences for helping in differentiate between
words that sound alike.
According to the Karpov et.al, (2014), in the present time, the speech-recognition systems,
programs, software and machine is adopted by those people who are suffering the disabilities
problems and cannot type on computer systems, laptops, smart phones and other devices. There
are some speech recognition programs, systems and software that save speech data of the users
after every interval and allow them to dictate their computers with progressive speech
deterioration. The program such as Small-vocabulary that are used by the users in automated
telephone answering in which the users can speak in different speech patterns and accents and
that will be understand by the systems. The use of this program is limited to only small numbers
of inputs and predetermined commands such as numbers. On the other hand, program such as
Large-vocabulary has high degree of accuracy and is most useful in the business organizations
where only small numbers of people or users work on the systems or program. This program is
useful in understanding words with different pause between each other and that are speak
separately.

The effect of speech recognition on our lives
According to the Besacier et.al (2014), In the current world, the speech-recognition programs,
software, systems and machine are using on daily basis in the workplaces as well as at the home.
The speech-recognition technology has made very easy for the people in the personal as well as
professional life to easily access any documents, files, audios, videos, images, etc. on their
computers, laptops, smart phones, other devices or machines by speaking and giving command
to them. There are numbers of smart voice recognition and voice activated products that can be
used by the users at home or residents such as Vocca, Honeywell Wi-Fi Smart Thermostat,
Apple Homekit, Voice Pod, Samsung Smart TV, Amazon Echo, Ivee sleek, Athom Homey, etc.
these speech-recognition products are very useful for the people in the workplaces and home to
perform their daily routine activities and tasks by just giving commands to them through speech
and. words.
For example, Ivee Sleek is a home hub that is uniquely designed and styled to have interaction
with voice. All the home linked smart devices are controlled by using this product through
making simple spoken command. The Echo is also a smart home hub device that is operated
through voice without making use of hands after plugging in. by using this speech-recognition
device, people in the office as well as at home not only can play and listen music but also can
control other devices such as switches, lighting, heaters, etc. According to the Gaida et.al,
(2014), another example of the speech speech-recognition device is Smart-TV that is also
operated and controlled through voice command as users can make power on or off, access apps
and change channels through voice command and without using remotes. these speech-
recognition devices, software and programs have made major impacts on the daily-routine lives
of people as they can perform some basic daily routine work through computers systems and
machines without using their hands and giving voice command and hence made people lives so
easy and quick.
The wide use of speech recognition in organisations
According to the Duarte et.al, (2014), in the modern business environment, there are numbers of
business organizations that are using speech-recognition devices, systems, software and
programs for making fast and efficient operations of the business activities. Business

organizations use speech or voice recognition programs, software and systems for accessing
important information and details of the business as well as customers that are recorded in the
computer systems. The speech recognition system detects the voice of the authorized person and
enable the users to access the information that is recorded in the computer systems. The speech
recognition technology or system is also useful in maintaining the confidentiality of the data and
information of the business organizations and their customers that are stored in the computer
systems as speech recognition systems cannot be accessed by the unauthorized persons.
According to the Yu and Deng, (2016), there are large numbers of multinational organizations
that used robotic technology in their workplace for performing the various task and activities in
quick and efficient manners. These robots are also designed in such a manner that are operated
and controlled by the voice commands given by the human resources. As per study, it has
identified that these speech- recognized robots are more productive and useful for the
organization as compared to the human resources. Therefore, the speech-recognition technology,
system, programs or software has wide use in the numbers of business as well as non-business
organization. Speech-recognition technology is not enabling the different organizations to protect
their confidential data stored in the computer systems but also enabling to perform operational
activities fast and efficiently.

Methodology
Research methodology is a research tool used by researchers to organise, manages, and gathers
both Primary and Secondary data required for performing the research project. The researcher
requires an effective Research project which is a structured process requiring a meticulous
programme. Thus, the current research project is structured on the basis of research onion that
offers generic framework including various techniques need for conducting researcher and
collecting the most effective data systematically. Therefore, for the current research project
Research methodology can be considered to be as a collection of vivid factors supporting the
researchers to rectifying loop holes in the project. Concept of research methodology has been
discussed below:
Research Methods:
The method of data analysis is of two types qualitative and quantitative. In case of Qualitative
method, the researchers can identify various research problems and understand prospectus of the
problem. Data in this type of research method collected on the basis of physical attributes and
properties (Gray et al 2008). Qualitative method includes interviews, observations etc. On other
hand in Quantitative method helps the researcher to analyses data on the basis of numerical data
and quantity.
In the present research project, researcher has chosen to implement quantitative method for
collecting accurate and precise data considering numerical methods. For collecting in-depth and
precise data the researcher collect views and opinion of different respondents for understanding
Speech Recognition and its impact upon on human live so that accordingly proper conclusion
can be drawn along with recommendations (Patton, 1990).
Research approach
Research project need to follow specific research approach to determine its aim and objectives.
Research approaches are of two types: inductive and deductive. In case of Deductive approach
the researcher can develop hypothesis for research project with respected to pre-existing theory.

The Deductive approach can be applied with qualitative research techniques, the pre-existing
research are formulated through hypothesis testing (Burke, 2013). In Inductive approach, the
researcher come to a conclusion through observations and considering the patterns among
collected data. In the current research, the researcher has chosen to apply deductive approach as
the whole study is considered according to the opinion and perspective of others. Using this
approach, the researcher is supported to deduce all the collected views and opinions of different
scholars to draw effective conclusion.
Research philosophy
Research philosophy is a common term in research project that discusses about aspects for
effective completion of the project with understandable perspectives. The research philosophy
supports in defining and stating the research background by controlling known and unknown
knowledge. The Research philosophy can classify further as: positivism, realism, interpretivism.
For conducting the current researcher, the researcher has considered using positivism. This is so
because data and information for performing the project was collected from different sources and
positivism philosophy supports in conducting quantitative research and analyse statistical data
for achieving suitable result (Schwalbe, 2015). Through which the researcher was assisted and
supported for analysing and understanding Speech Recognition along with its impact and benefit
upon human lives.
Data collection
Collecting data and information for conducting a research project is a combination of two
different techniques: primary and secondary. In a research project, data collection is considered
as the most important function as on the basis of the information, the researcher of the current
project can observe, correlate, and analyse variables of the current study. In case of primary
method of data collection, researcher effectively collects data and information from different
primary sources such as through survey and interviews (Schwalbe, 2015). However, in case of
collecting secondary data the researcher collects data from different articles, books and
newspapers for making proper conclusions through effective analysis. For the current project, the
researcher has chosen to collect both primary and secondary data from different source to get
more relevant and precise data regarding Speech recognition and its impact upon human lives.

Gantt chart is a effective tool used in project management devised by a Karol Adamiecki a polish
engineer named in 1890. Using the project management tool the researchers can effectively
distribute all the tasks and activities of the project in a specific time frame for effective
