1SPIRITUALITY AWARENESS
Spirituality is basically a broad concept which gives room for many perspectives. It
includes a sense of connection to something bigger than the self which typically involves a
search for greater meaning in life. Spirituality helps in getting a different perspective towards life
and different life experiences. It is thought to be a universal human experience which touches
everyone and in many cases involves a deep sense of being alive or being interconnected
(Sheldrake, 2013).
The old concept of spirituality is supposed to mean that it is basically something against
materialism. In order to renounce the pleasures of matter, body and mind has been defined as
spirituality. Spirituality should not identify with anything that we see and that can be an object to
an individual in order to remain as a subject. Spirituality does not advocate objectification of
desires but is pure subjectivity (Paloutzian & Park, 2014).
It is basically believed that spirituality is not concerned with renouncing anything but
feeling or experiencing everything more intensely or more in totality in comparison to the
materialist. All in all spirituality is a life lived in ultimate depth. An individual understanding the
concept of spirituality is someone whose identity is at the centre. Spirituality according to me
does not condemn enjoyment but gives more purpose to life (Bullis, 2013).
Spirituality has helped me get a positive outlook towards life. It has helped me
understand the importance of adhering to positives in life. In case a person believes in the
presence of a higher power, he or she is bound to remain on the right track throughout his or her
life. There is also the concept of karma in the realm of spirituality. It is believed that if an
individual follows a positive karmic pattern in his or her life then there will be very less chances
of getting punished for any wrongdoings in life (Pashak & Laughter, 2012).

2SPIRITUALITY AWARENESS
Spirituality helps me establish a connection with God. It helps me feel powerful at all
times due to my connectivity with the supreme force at all times. It also helps me keep a track of
all my wrongdoings myself and my possibilities of being misled or doing anything morally
wrongly is eliminated. At all times I feel empowered to do things which otherwise I would think
twice before doing. I feel interested to be considerate towards others, I feel grateful towards
people who help and understand me. In addition to this, spirituality also helps me to gain inner
strength and try to cultivate a positive attitude towards those who might have wronged me and a
sense of forgiveness overpowers me.
Spirituality never makes me feel alone as it provides a sense of being at one with the
Supreme Power. This makes me realise that spirituality is a positive force which helps
individuals from all walks of life and helps them deal with situations which might lead to
frustration or instances of self harm. Thus the benefits of spirituality cannot be undermined
though affiliation to it is purely personal choice.
