Work and Employability
Self-discipline is a crucial attribute that every individual should possess. It is through
this trait that individuals are able to enhance their skills and grow in a systematic manner.
With the help of this discipline, a person can enhance their concentration, motivation, and
perseverance towards the tasks allotted to them. Thus, it is a very essential trait that all the
students, who will be joining an organization after college should possess (Nwinyokpugi,
2015).
In my opinion, the two skills that will help in improving my discipline are
constructive skills and generative skills. Both these skills are helpful in attaining a wider
knowledge and understanding of the business world. With the help of constructive skills, I
will learn to cooperate with my colleagues and seniors. Along with this, it will also help in
making me understand the need for rules and regulations at the workplace or in life. The
constructive skills will make me independent and encourage me to complete my work on my
own and this will make me a better leader as it will also strengthen my leadership qualities
(Johnson, 2018). The biggest advantage of constructive skills is it helps in improving
communication. According to Alona Benko, with the help of constructive communication
skills an individual can attain the quality to address the conflicts in advance and will be able
to develop a smooth working environment (Benko, 2019). On the other hand, the generative
skills are the skills, which I want to focus mainly as it ensures long-term development. For
developing accurate generative skills, I have to improve my organization skills like time,
people, things, and space. I would also need to have a positive attitude towards everything as
this will help me in resolving the mutual problems with colleagues and I will have to take an
initiative, as I am new to the organization.
Though both these skills are effective enough to help an individual learn the core
attributes required to work smoothly in an organization, these skills are extremely time-taking

and due to them the organizational activities may suffer. In addition, both these skills work
with collaboration and adjustment from the other colleagues, thus to implement these skills in
an organization is very difficult due to adjusting to other employees behavior and mood. The
biggest restriction to these skills is that due to the incorporation of these skills, an individual
adapts to a working environment that makes him inflexible and this creates a bigger problem
in adjusting to the new working environment. Furthermore, an individual struggles to manage
the different uncertainties due to extreme self-control behavior of the individual (Arsyad,
2014).
All these different positive and negative qualities of both these skills highlight the fact
that to enhance the level of discipline in me, I need to understand the thin line that lies in all
these skills which will make me adamant and stubborn with their different practices. Thus, I
have to ensure that while acquiring these various skills I need to adapt to practices, which
will also increase my cooperation level and flexibility. In addition, self-discipline should be
adapted in a balanced way.
