Report
AI Summary
This report examines the role of Fartlek training and aerobic exercise in enhancing sports performance. It begins by outlining the energy systems involved in athletic performance, particularly focusing on the Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP) and its significance. The report then delves into Fartlek training, a method of interval training that improves running speed and endurance by varying speeds between slow jogging and fast segments. It also highlights the importance of aerobic training and its ability to improve cardiovascular health and enhance athletic longevity. References to key studies and research are included to support the analysis, making this a comprehensive overview of the topic.

An energy system is designed to supply energy services to the end-users and is
involved in production, delivery, conversion and usage of energy by the body. The
powerhouse of energy in the human body is Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP) that is obtained
from nutrient (Rossi & Pekkurnaz, 2017). Athletes are using it in a specific manner to
maximise their efficiency and usage. One of metabolic energy system training methods that
are focused in this discussion is Fartlek training.
According to Marzolini et al., (2018), Aerobic training is stated to be specific in term
of athlete’s sports that require adequate cardiovascular overload that allows in stimulating to
enhance the stroke volume and cardio output. With the use of specific training principles,
cardiovascular overload can be attained by simultaneously increasing the local circulation of
the muscle group. This can be done by conducting an aerobic exercise that will simulate the
movements that are used by athletes during athletic performance. The training helps in
increasing the fitness level of the athletes can be applied by interval training, fartlek training
and continuous training. Fartlek training is a form of speed or interval training that is used for
enhancing the running speed as well as endurance level of the athletes. It involves running at
varying speed in the entire course of the running by modifying or alternating between slow
jogging as well as fast segments.
Various studies have been conducted in relation to aerobic training that stated its
significance in improving modern sports performance (Patel et al. 2017). It addition it
enhances the longevity of athletes to play the respective sports for an extended period without
concerning about their fitness level.
