About Peter Squires
Peter Squires is a sociologist who has been working at the University of Brighton ever
since the year of 1986. He currently serves as Professor of Criminology at the university, a
post that he has been holding since 2005. Peter Squires holds degrees in social policy as well
as in social criminology from the University of Bristol. His doctoral dissertation focused on
criminalization of poverty, which was submitted to the University of Bristol in 185. The
Brighton Community Law Center is a place where Peter Squires holds a membership and
some of the activities that he is responsible for at this particular center include researching on
public safety, policing, economic development and anti poverty strategy. Peter Squires has a
major contribution to play in popularizing the study of criminology as an academic discipline.
Ever since Peter Squires began to research on and teach criminology at the University of
Brighton, many young people have been seen to take up the subject at the undergraduate,
graduate as well as post graduate levels. In the year 2009, Peter Squires was appointed to the
post of a member of the Executive Committee of the British Society for Criminology. Peter
