Discussion Board Post
AI Summary
This discussion post addresses the significance of project quality management. It defines project quality as the fulfillment of a project's intended purpose and objectives. The post emphasizes the use of quality management plans, tools, and techniques, such as cost-benefit analysis and cost of quality, to ensure project success. It explains the role of various costs (prevention, appraisal, and failure) in quality management and highlights the potential impact of poor quality on project budgets, referencing a case study of a construction project. The author underscores the importance of quality control and thorough supervision to deliver projects of the expected quality, emphasizing that effective quality management is crucial for staying within budget and achieving the desired project outcomes.

Initial Discussion
The project quality can be explained as the criteria for a project or a process to perform
satisfactorily and is capable of fulfilling its intended purpose (Basu, 2014). In project
management, project quality is defined by the relevance of the performance of the project with
the actual objective of the project. Therefore, to ascertain that a project performs in accordance
to the set objectives, every project management plan is associated with development of a quality
management plan and the entire project is evaluated on basis of the quality management plan.
The quality management process of any project is subjected to use of certain specific
tools and techniques that contributes to fulfilling the core objectives of a project (Kerzner, 2019).
The success of any undertaken project therefore, largely depends on the choice of accurate tools
and techniques that helps in fulfilment of the set quality requirements of the project. The tools,
procedures and the techniques that are necessary for planning the quality management process of
a project include cost benefit analysis and cost of quality.
The cost benefit analysis is one of the most widely used techniques of quality planning in
a project where the cost of the project is compared with the benefits (Nas, 2016). The cost and
the benefits of a particular project are measured to plan the quality of a project. Similarly in the
technique of cost of quality, the cost that conforms all the quality requirement of a project are
calculated to plan the quality management, which further helps in emphasizing on prevention of
mistakes. The cost planning and management process in a project are linked with costs which
include prevention cost, appraisal cost and failure cost. The quality of any project largely
depends on the process in which all these costs are managed to ensure that the project is

completed within the budget by achieving the desired project quality. These processes are
implemented in the planning stage to ascertain that the project is executed as per plan. The
quality control tools and techniques are generally included in quality management plan to
ascertain that a project of expected quality is delivered. The implementation of the quality
management tools in a project requires thorough supervision and regular quality testing to
validate the actual quality requirements of the same.
Quality management is an important consideration of a project as the entire project
budget can largely be affected by poor quality management (Larsen et al., 2016). If a project of
poor quality is delivered, rework or rectification in the project will be required which will incur
additional cost leading to the project going over budget. If the given case study is considered, the
total cost of building is considered to be $6,743,000. Any issues in the planning can result in
development of a substandard building, which will require rework. This will incur an additional
cost leading to the increase in the total construction cost. Therefore, it can be implicated that
quality management is of paramount importance in any undertaken project.
