St Helen's Smelting Co v Tipping in this case claimant owned manor house within 1300
acres of land which is situated over short distances from defendant copper smelting business.
Further, he brought a nuisance action against defendant in respect upon making damages caused
by working over their crops, trees and foliage. There are various industrial businesses that is

tort law in any condition. In the case of Ryland v Fletcher it has been observed that defendant
owns mill and constructed reservoir over their land. The reservoir has placed upon disused mine .
Water from reservoir the reservoir filtered through to the disused mine shafts and then spread to
a working mine owned by the claimant causing extensive damage. In this case court held that
defendant is strictly liable upon making damages caused by non natural use of land. Also the
case has marked out about accumulation of damage which causes damage but appropriate
precautions is not taken in effective manner. These cases has lead upon creating impact of tort
law proved with more effectiveness that makes applicability of law of torts done in practical
