Case Study
AI Summary
This case study examines the wireless network implementation at St. Luke's Health Care System, focusing on the advantages of NetMotion's Mobility XE for continuous network access and security. It addresses HIPAA requirements, emphasizing physical, technical, and administrative safeguards necessary for compliance. The analysis also highlights the benefits of using VLANs in a hospital setting to enhance security, improve communication, and streamline network maintenance. The case study concludes by recommending VLAN implementation at St. Luke's to mitigate security threats and improve overall communication quality.

1. The users who are using Net Motion’s Mobility XE have a diverse background and they
are spread across the world. There are certain advantages of the deployment of Mobility
XE. The main advantage is receiving the continuous network access in the disruptive
situations. It serves a good network connectivity all the time ("NetMotion - Mobile
Performance Management Software", 2018). The use of Net Motion XE saves a lot of
time by providing continuous network connectivity along with mitigation of the
probability of crashing of the application. This kind of network connectivity service is
helpful where the network coverage is needed for the large areas such as airports. The
other advantages of Net Motion’s Mobility XE are-
Providing secure connection along with providing the patches
Reliable performance
Support from different devices.
Providing the required bandwidth throughout all the time.
2. There are three safe guards those are needed to be present in the HIPPA requirement.
These are-
Physical safeguards
Technical safeguards
Administrative safeguards
Physical safeguards: This includes workstation security, workstation control, and
control of facility access and device media. The devices and system should not be handled by the
unauthorized person. This will ensure the security of the system and eliminate the chances of the
unauthorized access in the network.

Technical Safeguard: Technical safeguards includes integration of data, controlling of
audit, authentication and ensuring the transmission control (Guarino, Hulihan & Watt,2016). The
technical safeguards include the encryption for the protection of data and ensuring the security in
transmission of data. The passwords are used to ensure the user authentication of the system. The
system should be password protected and the passwords should be handled by the authorized
person only.
Administrative safeguard: This section includes assigning the responsibility for the
security, awareness training, management of information, security workforce and security
management process. The hospitals should have some policies and planes to manage the process
in the hospitals (Rechtman & Rashbaum, 2015). The policies should be made on the basis of the
risk assessment of the hospital.
3. There are several advantages of using VLAN at hospital. The use of VLAN at hospital
makes the communication easier with the help of network (Haigh & Wilkes, 2016)..
Some of the advantages of using VLAN are-
Increase of security
Easy maintenance of the communication network
Improvement of performance
Enhancement of the wireless network by the use of VLAN at St Luke’s Hospital:
It can be assumed from the case study that the vast of wireless communication makes the
system prone to the security threats and attacks at St Luke’s Hospital. The important data
regarding hospital and the patients can be altered or hacked. The use of the VLAN at the hospital
will reduce the security threats for the network along with that it reduces the time spent for

maintaining the network. The use of VLAN at St Luke’s hospital will mitigate the security
threats that may occur in future. The quality of the communication will be increased along with
the overall improvement of the communication quality.
