 Staff training and development is based on understanding and practises that
improves the skills of the employees for the growth of the organisation. Gemfields is a
UK company that provides gem stones and jewellery to the customers (About
Gemfields, 2021).
 This presentation will discuss about the Staff training and development, employee
development theories and issues of training and development with real life examples

STAFF TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT
 It refers to the improvement in the employees' capability
of working and development of the employees that can help the
organization in effective operational process of the business
(Robson and Sebba, 2018).
 Employees of Gemfiled are associated with the preparation of gem
stones.
 Such work needs special skills and developed employees.
Employee development refers to the process whereby the managers
and employee work together to create development plan.

THEORY OF REINFORCEMENT
 According to Skinner, the theory of reinforcement suggest
that the training and development programme should be aligned with
the organisational objectives and positive outcomes should be
expected with such training and development program (Ranadheera,
Maghsudi and Hossain, 2017).
 The alignment of organisational and employee development goal
increase the efficiency in the development and reduce the useless
practises of the staff training and development.

THEORY OF LEARNING TYPES
 Gagne presented the theory of learning types.
 It focus on intellectual skills of the employees.
Gagne believed that such skills are rare to found. Different
learning types were suggested and each learning types contain
some external and internal conditions (Burlakova and
Gubanova, 2019).
Theory types include intellectual skills, verbal information,
attitudes, cognitive strategies and motor skills.

ISSUES OF STAFF TRAINING AND
DEVELOPMENT
 Various issues are faced by Gemfield that are
creating barriers in the staff training and development. It lead to
the decreasing in the efficiency of operating process in the
organisation.
 Following are the issues that are being faced by the managers
in terms of employee training and development.
Lack of engagement
Different generations at same workplace

RECOMMANDATION
 From the analysis of the issues in Gemfield related to the training and development of the employees.
 It can be recommended to the company that method of staff training should be updated with the
changes in the goal of the organisation.
 Adopting different methods such as eLearning, coaching and mentoring will increase the efficiency in
the training and development of the employees.
 Company should train different generations separately.

CONCLUSION
 From the presentation, it can be concluded that staff training and development refers to the improvement
in the skills of staff for the growth of the organisation.
 It also included in the process that encourage and motivate the employees that brings creativity in the
operating process of the company.
 Gemfield faced various issues in the training and development of the employees that included lack of
engagement and different generations at same workplace.
 Recommendation were also given to the Gemfield to update the training methods and guiding the
different employees separately in order to bring the positive development in the training results.
