Management and operations is a part of business field. In this area manager or a leader
play there role by controlling overall process of industry and its production. In every
organisation business management is every important at each level for managing their work and
also to employees as well. This function includes a lot of responsibilities. Starbucks is a British
international retailer organisation (Fan, and et.al., 2014). They successfully established their
headquarter in London and UK. In this report it defines the roles and characteristics of a leader
and manager of organization. It also explains differences between their role of leader and
manager functions by using some elements.

Leader Manager
Role: Team leader is a person who provide
proper guidance to employee in organisation.

workers. Manager monitors the whole process

in organisation. Thus, for managing the whole
department leader should have some
characteristic to make them as a good leader in
the organisation. Honesty, sense of humour,
confidence, commitment, creativity and
communication are the key of leader
characteristic. Leader of organisation need to
build strong communication between their
workers and other staff members. Passion and
commitment is another function of successful
leader. Leader need to give motivation to their
employee at workplace for perform high
performance work. They should be innovative
in there work and also have collaboration skill
in themselves.
Characteristic: In organisation manger play
there role by having different types of
characteristic such as leadership, experience,
knowledge, time management, delegation etc.
they need to have an experience of their work
to give better training and development session
to workers in organisation. Manager of
Starbucks have a quality of making
communication to customers and other staff
members at every department in firm. They
need to be very knowledgable in themselves

role. Thus, for playing there responsibilities
they need to provide proper guidance of time

process of special objectives in organisation.
Management by objectives indicate the process
of achieving business goals by leading good
management system. It helps to understand

In this unit it has been concluded that management and objectives both are important in
organisation. It is like a branch inside company, including leader and manager. This study
provide differences between leader and manager within their role and characteristic. It also
presents role of leader and functions of manger by using different types of theory such as
situational leadership theory, system and task or relationship theory for leader. Chaos and
management by objectives is for manager, that help to understand there roles easily. Role and
characteristic explain the whole process of there work and understand employee needs at
workplace.
