Management and operations plays a vital role as the Starbucks adopts for the purpose of
gaining in the competitive environment. The assignment is based upon the Starbucks in which
the leader and managers plays a vital role that leads to attain the objectives in most effective
manner (Karlsson, 2016). Thereafter, there is an also discussion on the functions of leadership
and management that helps the Starbucks to motivate the employees and achieved the goals in
most effective way.

1.1 Define and compare the various roles and characteristics of a leader and manager
The role of a leadership and management in the Starbucks which are as describe as
follows-
Definition- The leadership can be define as that person which clearly define the
organisation's visions that attained through the group of people. Thus, they are those person who
influences the worker towards the firm's goals so, they put their maximum efforts towards it.
Whereas, the management are those who formulate the policies and strategies that are implement
within the organisation. Furthermore, they also formulating the strict rules and regulations so,
that every should be done in most effective manner.
Approaches- The leaders influence their member through participate them in a decision
making process that leads to finding out the most effective solution (Turner,2014). Beside this,
the management used various policies and procedures that are implement by them within the
organisation so, the work carry out in most effective manner.
Functions- The function of a leadership is that to motivate and encourage the people
towards firm's goals so, put their great efforts that leads to attain objectives in most effective
way. On the other side, the management carry out various functions due to which they
effectively control and coordinate the activities through the functions that are planning,
organising, directing, staffing and motivating the individual within the organisation.

members which contribute more efforts and they performed most effective role of
leadership. The attributes that are include in it are creativity, imagine power and put their
great responsibility which maintain coordination in the Starbucks organisation.ï‚· There is another theory is a great man theory in which there is traits of leadership are
permanent and natural. Thus these traits of leadership are not made as the traits are born
made as it assist in maintaining and communicating with the members. It leads to done
the work in most effective way that directly attain the goals of an organisation in a
desired manner.

ï‚· There is an another theory of contingency due to which the manager plays it major role as
they perform functions in which they make decisions regard to situation happen within
the organisation (Chon, and Yu, 2012). In regard to Starbucks they get benefit from this
theory is that they make an appropriate decisions for which the implementing the best
results that are come out from the decisions.
