Introduction
Direct democracy is also known as a pure democracy which is a form of democracy in which
policy initiatives are decided by the people directly (Wells, 2016). It differs from the
representative democracy. The people vote for representatives, and then the winner
representative enacts the policy initiatives in the representative democracy (Esajasson et al.,
2017) whereas in a direct democracy people enact policy initiatives without any intermediary.
But in both the democracy people is the ultimate source of authority. There are different forms of
democracy such as direct democracy, representative democracy, parliamentary democracy,
participatory democracy, social democracy, presidential democracy, authoritarian democracy,
Islamic democracy, etc. (Xiang et al., 2017).
Yes, our constitution is in accordance with the mentioned theory that is democracy ought to
deliver the essential and required services in accordance to the interest of the people. Although
people are the ultimate source of authority for the government, no one can exceed the limit
bound in the constitution. Every individual is bound by the law and constitution and can act
accordingly to the limit set by the constitution (Wells, 2016). However, the constitution or a
particular law can be amended in accordance to the interest of the people. The constitution is
formed to protect the interest of the people and give them all the fundamental rights. The same
principle is being followed at the national level as well as the states level. No one can violate the
fundamental rights given to the citizen of the country. No one is beyond the constitution whether
it is a direct democracy or any other form of democracy. But one of the main functions of the
constitution is to protect the political system of the country which is a democratic system.
Therefore, it can be said that our constitution is according to the theory mentioned above that is
protecting the interest of the people.
