mentor and coach the employees to achieve the objectives. The main purpose of the report is to
make leadership plan that could assist me in the achievement of the end goal. I have used the
secondary research from journal articles and academic books. Personal leadership plans are also
made by the leaders in order to make a vision and follow a prescribed process of leadership and
also undertakes strategic actions for the skill development and an enhancement in the

INTRODUCTION
A leader is responsible for providing assistance and guidance to the employees in order to
make them motivated and inspired towards the work and helps them to achieve the goals of the
organization (Schoemaker, Heaton, & Teece, 2018). A leader gives feedback to the employees so
that they can make improvements in their performance and the leader also takes feedback from
the subordinates so that the leader can enhance their skills and abilities and also can increase
self-awareness (Sotarauta, 2016). For the achieving effectiveness in the leadership, it is
important that the leaders make leadership development plans so that the leaders can plan their
leadership journey and take significant steps towards the improvements in the skills and abilities
to become an effective leader.
Here, the report is made on my leadership journey that I would take in to achieve my
leadership goals in next 2 years. The reason for taking this period is that I will be able to attain
the required standards for becoming a successful leader in future and I have to enhance my skills
as well. In this report, I have discussed the importance of self-development in my leadership
plan. I have also elaborated GROW leadership model for analyzing my crucial steps in my
journey as a leader. Further, I have made an analysis of personal development plan and then I
have evaluated my leadership style. Additionally, I have discussed the importance of feedback
and I have also used reflective and reflexive practice for the purpose of enhancing my
personality as a leader.
SIGNIFICANCE OF SELF-DEVELOPMENT AS A LEADER
A leader is required to enhance their skills in order to be capable in terms of
empowerment. Therefore, it is important for an individual to make improvements in their skills
in order to enhance their career and personal development. It is crucial that a leader makes plans
for the self-development in order to make an increase in the self- confidence through making an
assessment of personal skills and competencies and undertaking relevant steps to realize their
own potential to achieve the desired goal or objective (Caldwell & Hayes, 2016). Similarly, it is
important for me to develop my skills and grow myself in order to become an effective leader.

For that I will need to build self-awareness so that I am aware about my strengths and
weaknesses which can help me in finding out the areas where I have to make improvements and
this will also facilitate me using my strengths in a proper way.
Self-development is regarded as the process of taking steps for the betterment of self and
removal of bad habits and learning new skills. This related to achievement of self-efficiency and
establishing self-direction for so that an individual’s personal leadership goals are met (Solansky,
2015). As far as my journey is concerned, self-development will help me in building my
strengths which can result in the positive outcome in my personality and will lead to my ability
to gain master in the skills that I already have. Self-awareness leads to self-motivation and self-
actualization (D'Souza & Gurin, 2016). Maslow’s hierarchical needs are containing of five needs
that are helpful in attaining self-actualization. These five needs are psychological needs, safety
needs, belonging needs, esteem needs and at the very end there is self-actualization need.
Therefore, I can use this motivation model for keeping myself motivated through satisfying the
five needs. These needs will help me analyzing my potential for becoming the leader and
ultimately help me achieving self-development.
Further, in my journey of becoming a leader, it is crucial for me to develop my skills
through self-development as it will help me in becoming competitive that will add to my self-
image. This can create trust in the subordinates which will not only increase my self-confidence
but will also help in increasing the productivity of the company in which I am employed as a
leader.
EVALUATION OF LEADERSHIP MODEL
In leadership, it is important for the leader to coach and mentor their subordinates. A
leader shows the path to the employees and provide them with the possible ways to achieve the
prescribed goals. A good mentor participates in the problem and becomes the helping hand of the
subordinates in order to guide them and also motivate them to give their best (Shek, Chung, &
Leung, 2015). Similarly, for my leadership journey, I will have to gain the capabilities of good
mentor and coach so that I can deliver my ideas and suggestions in a proper way to the fellow
subordinates. Moreover, I will use leadership model which will guide me the ways to achieve

long term goals as a leader. For this, I will the GROW leadership model of coaching and
mentoring which is based upon experiences, different choices and pursuing them for my self-
development.
ANALYSIS OF GROW MODEL
GROW model is a coaching framework given by Sir John Whitmore in 1992 which is the
popular model used for solving a problem by making better decisions, learning of new skills
through improvement in the performance and setting goals to become a great coach (Ebrahimi
Mehrabani & Azmi Mohamad, 2015). For my self-development and enhancing my coaching and
mentoring skills, I will use this model. This can be used by me in the following way:
ESTABLISHING THE GOAL
For coaching, it is important to set the goal that the leader or the follower has to achieve.
I will make SMART goals which is specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and time bound. As
my goal is to be an effective leader in next 2 years, therefore I will keep myself energized and
motivated to achieve my predefined goal.
EXAMINATION OF CURRENT REALITY
This is a crucial step in this model where I will determine my current reality through
making an analysis of my strengths and weaknesses. In this, I will also analyze the problems or
obstacles that I could face in my journey which could be internal and external. Hence, this will
be the starting point of my journey.
EXPLORING OPTIONS
After I have made my long-term goal and have evaluated my current situation, the next
step is to explore or finding the ways or options that would lead me towards the attainment of
goals that I have set. I will use the brainstorming process which will enable me think about
creative ideas and I will also take feedback from others for enhancing my skills.

This step is considered as plan of action. Therefore, I will maximize my motivation and
commitment by taking the action plans for the chosen option and taking my leadership journey
ahead. I will determine the problems or hindrances and make strategies for avoiding the
problems that I could face in the future.
PERSONAL LEADERSHIP PLAN
Personal leadership development plan defines the ways or steps that could be taken to
achieve the career goals by facing the challenges and using the opportunities that could help in
personal career satisfaction and can have a positive impact on the organization (Rubens,
Schoenfeld, Schaffer, & Leah, 2018). Similarly, I will make personal leadership plan that could
help me in building self-awareness, enhancing my skills and taking steps towards the self-
development that could help me in securing a better state in future.
For my leadership journey, I will make the leadership plan as firstly I will take inspiration
from other leaders and will analyze myself as being ethical and innovative when it comes to lead
an organization or a team. I will take self-assessment where I will identify my core
characteristics, capabilities and personality. I will make actions plans for the improvements in
the skills that are required for becoming the leader. This plan is also help in the case where
things go wrong by taking the step back through following the strategies.
Moreover, I will make the personal leadership plan for 2 years for working on the skills
that I have to work on. The following table shows the personal leadership plan for 2 years for the
purpose of improving the skills through analyzing my current situation and target ability that I
could improve and also the time frame within which I will improve my certain skill and at the
last there is an evaluation criteria which will help me examining my success of improvements.

EVALUATION OF LEADERSHIP STYLE
Leadership style is the way in which a leader leads the organization. It is concerned with
the explicit and implicit actions to be taken for providing direction, motivating, inspiring and
guiding others to achieve the diverse goals of the organization (Renko, EI Tarabishy, Carsrud, &
Brännback, 2015). Different leaders have different leadership style for leading the organization
such as autocratic, democratic, strategic, coaching, laissez-faire, transformational and
charismatic leadership style (Holten & Brenner, 2015). According to me, I have strategic
leadership style as I have all the skills of a strategic leader. I have a strategic thinking and I am
able to influence others for achieving the long-term goals by adopting various strategies.
STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP STYLE
Strategic leadership style is concerned with creating a vision and persuading the efforts of
another person to achieve the vision that has already been made by the leader for the purpose of
achieving the goals and objectives of the organization (Carter & Greer, 2013). For my journey of
leadership, it is essential that I should assess my leadership style which is the strategic leadership
style. I believe I have all the required skills and abilities to become a strategic leader. The main
objective of my leadership is to bring innovation, boost the performance and encouraging the

environment of the organization which is productive. I have following qualities as a strategic
leader:
OPEN-MINDED
Open-minded means open to the ideas, suggestions and feedback. It means listening to
other person without judging them and supporting them. I am open-mined personality as I keep
myself open for new ideas and I always take insights from around. This also means I am ready to
hear uncomfortable things from my subordinates and I accept every piece of information.
COURAGEOUS
Courageous relates to act with patience even if one has received failures many times. I
am a courageous person and know how to act when I am getting success and have courage when
I am suffering from failures. I am acceptable to take the criticism and understand that failure is
part of success.
DISCIPLINED AND ACCOUNTABLE
I follow discipline at the workplace as it is essential for structure and order. I have
strategic thinking and I take actions on daily basis. Commitment shows the dedication of a
person (Bumphus, 2018). I take the responsibility of the commitments that I make. I accept the
mistakes and I hold myself accountable for every promise that I make to my subordinates.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS
For making effective interactions with the other people communication is the key. I have
strong communication skills and I have the ability to communicate my vision to the employees
and have the ability to inspire them to achieve the final outcome. I have soft-communication
skills and I am open to the suggestions and feedback from the employees.

I always involve my employees in every decision that I make for the betterment of the
organization. Collaborating with the employees creates transparency into the organization
(Norzailan, Othman, & Ishizaki, 2016). Therefore, I always take suggestion from others in order
to create connection.
CREATIVITY AND INNOVATION
It is important for the leader to come up with the new innovations and have a strong
vision to execute the innovation (Mathis, 2019). I believe in making innovative strategies which
will precisely give me competitive advantage over the competitors.
IMPORTANCE OF FEEDBACK
In personal development, feedback plays a vital role as it gives a person an opportunity to
make improvements in the personality which can help a person to become a leader (Steffens, et
al., 2018). As per leadership journey, feedback will help me enhancing my skills and also help
me in knowing my weaknesses where major attention is required. Thus, this will help me in
becoming a successful leader.
FEEDBACK FROM OTHERS
It is essential to take feedback from the people that are interacted on the daily basis and
the same is difficult in reality as it creates hesitation take criticism and judgments from others
(Valckx, Devos, & Vanderlinde, 2018). Similarly, I will take valuable feedback from the peers,
family members and teachers as I interact with them on daily basis which will ultimately help me
in improving my skills. From feedback I can attain knowledge and I can also know the
expectations of the people I interact with. I can have the opportunity to make alterations in skills
that I have in order to make an improvement as a whole.
FEEDBACK TO OTHERS
A leader should give feedback to the employees on daily basis as it creates an
engagement and also helps in the overall enhancement in performance of the organization

(Steffens, et al., 2018). Similarly, for exercising an effective leadership, I will give feedback to
the subordinates and I will also solve their queries which will enable in creating a healthy
relationship with them. I will give suggestions to the employees to make improvements in the
process and technique and also guiding them with the correct way to achieve efficiency in their
performance.
ADOPTION OF REFLECTIVE AND REFLEXIVE PRACTICE
For my self-development I will use reflective and reflexive practices. Reflective practice
is considered to be based upon thinking and experiences and has critical nature as it needs to
evaluate various factors (Brockbank, McGill, & Beech, 2017). However, reflexive practice is
action based and all the decisions are taken without making analysis but is focuses on the main
goal. Similarly, I will utilize the reflective and reflexive practices for my leadership journey.
This can help me building self-awareness and will provide an opportunity for self-development.
Further, I will use the reflective practice by thinking about my goal of becoming a
successful leader and I will also think about the situations I could face throughout the journey
and making an analysis of the difficult and complex scenarios that I could come across.
However, it is different from the reflexive practice. For this practice I will take the actions that
will direct me towards my goal. I will make efforts for the achievement of my long-term goal
and I will take the steps without making analysis of the environment or the situations.
However, it can be noted that both the practices are crucial and helpful in the building my
self-awareness and knowing exactly what actions are required for building self-development
(Johns, 2017). In the process of my personal development, I will not only make an analysis of the
situation and think of the past but I will also learn from my own experiences that could be a
helping guide for the achievement of long-term leadership goal. Therefore, it can be said that
these practices are crucial for making an analysis of the situations and will help me getting
insights of the challenges that I could face and will ultimately help me attaining self-
development as a leader.
