Effective management skills can be considered as one of the important factor that should
be present in the workplace. It should be there as it helps to create good working
environment. In reference to Carillion, it can be said that effective management skills are
important so that it could be easy to create positivity in the workplace. It can assist the
employees in giving their best towards the assigned work. It has been examined that the
team which is well directed and understands the roles will always focus towards attaining
positive outcome. If there are good management skills in the workplace then it would be
easy to delegate the duties and communicate with the employees (Cottrell, 2017).
By having effective management skill it could be easy for the company to understand the
people. If the managers have proper understanding then they can delegate the duties in a
proper manner and also they can apply emotional intelligence in the business. Effective
management skills in the workplace can assist to give proper directions to the employees
which will directly boost the productivity in the workplace. It is important for the
managers to manage their employees with proper understanding as it will assist in
boosting the dedication and engagement level of the employees towards the assigned
work (Noe et al., 2017).
It is analyzed that effective management skill can also foster the community to grow.
The managers should have knowledge that their employees are ambitious and to foster
the community is one of the essential factors. It is the responsibility of the managers to
encourage the employees to boost their skills and to do the managers should provide
rewards so that it could be easy from them to attain set goals and objectives (Wheelen et
al., 2017). Therefore, it can be stated that the management of Carillion should focus on
effective management skills as it will help to achieve growth and success. Key principles related to management and development of the people are
a.) Decision making: It is the process that helps in managing and checking the system of
the organization. To manage and develop the people, it is necessary to focus on taking
decisions that are accepted by the people in the workplace. The top management
should take the decisions by considering the views and opinions of the employees. In
relation to Carillion Company, it is important for the company to take the decisions

after considering the views and opinions of the employees as it offers construction
services, so in this case it is necessary to have proper decision making process. If
proper decision making process is not present in the workplace then company has to
face heavy loss in relation to the operations (Anderson et al., 2015).
b.) Problem solving: The management of the company should focus on problem solving
approach as it helps to develop the skills of the employees. The employees should be
provided the platform in which they can share their queries and the management
should be proactive step to solve their queries. It will help to manage and develop the
skills of employees in the workplace (Hesse et al., 2015).
c.) Motivation: It is also considered as one of the essential factor that should be there so
that it could be easy for the management to manage and develop the employees.
Motivation can be given to the employees by satisfying their basic needs. The
management should focus on Maslow hierarchy of needs so that the needs of the
employees can be satisfied and they feel motivated towards their work. There are five
stages in Maslow hierarchy of needs such as physiological needs, safety needs,
belongingness needs, esteem needs and self actualization needs. Physiological needs
focuses on satisfying the needs in relation to food, shelter and clothing in the lives of
the individuals. The next need is safety needs in which the emphasis is given on
security, law, freedom and safety. Love and belongingness needs focuses on
maintain trust, intimacy in relation to the overall activities of the company. Esteem
needs emphasizes on status and prestige of the employees that should be maintained.
The last is self actualization need in which focus should be given on considering the
potential and also of the employees. All these needs should be fulfilled in respect to
basic needs, security of job, friendship, trust, status and prestige. These needs will
help to boost the motivation level and will also create interest of the employees.
Motivation can be enhanced if the needs of the employees are satisfied and this can
be one of the effective methods that can help in boosting the productivity level of the
employees towards their work (Fallatah and Syed, 2018).

In relation to the Carillion Company, it has been seen that management plays an
important role in managing the entire activities of the company. It is observed that the top
level management has the role in boosting the level of the motivation of the employees. If
motivation is not given to the employees from the management point of side then it will
be difficult for them to complete the operations on time.
Also, it is examined that the decisions made by the management influences the overall
activities of the management. It is necessary for the management to take right decisions
by considering the views and opinions of the employees as it will help to boost the
growth and also the dedication level of the employees towards the assigned work. The
main aim of the top management should be on solving the queries of the employees on
time so that they can manage their work in a proper manner. It will also influence their
working pattern and also their behavior towards the organizational activities (De Fruyt,
Wille and John, 2015).Therefore, it can be said that the decisions taken by the
management should be considered by considering the view point of the employees
towards the assigned work.
