In the Robin Hood case, it is clear that attributes of strategic management have been seen.
The control of the team in supreme hands, delegating tasks to different people based on their
capabilities, protesting against unethical means by managers and changing of financial policies
to adjust to the current situation is the most essential features of strategic management that have
been discussed in this case (Gamble, Peteraf & Thompson, 2014). Robin Hood was the supreme
leader of the band and he had divided the teams just as he gave the job of intelligence and
scouting men to Will Scarlett. These are plausible examples of the strategic management cases.
Three key strategic management activities have also been shown in this text or case of
Robin Hood. At first, Robin Hood keeps the charge in his hands and sets his goals to protest
against the unethical hierarchy process run by High Sheriff of Nottingham. He also kept note of
the progress of his campaigns and conditions of his forces (Ebrahim & Rangan, 2014). Managers
should also be cautious about the progress of their plans and how well these plans are being
executed. Robin Hood also possessed the sense about getting justice for his people. Managers
must also encourage their people and protect them in difficult times. The simplicity in decision
making process is also exhibited in the case i.e. highly important (Lasserre, 2017).
The ‘hierarchy of goals’ is very subtle in Robin Hood case. He set his goals according to
the need of the situation and designed them according to its importance. The volatility of Prince
John has been described i.e. similar to the volatile market conditions (Hill, Jones & Schilling,
2014). The killing of Sheriff was the primary aim of Robin Hood but he planned his ways after
consulting with all his men and asking for their managers. This is what a real strategic manager
should do.
