Reflection Report
1. Situation description
A. Team environment
While working in a particular team, it becomes very important to cooperate and collaborate with
the working styles of each other members of the group. One of the critical incident while
working within the team of 4 people was the leaving of one of our team members suddenly due
to his illness. He was allocated a major part of the work, and his absence increased the pressure
for us to a great extent. The task allocated to him was carrying effective research for the entire
project, and he has completed a few parts of the research, and thus, it was very difficult for us to
continue the research. Moreover, his work was divided within two of the members including me,
and we did it by using his left research part.
B. My Specific tasks
My role within the team was of a team leader who needs to monitor their execution of the entire
tasks allocated to the different members in a defined way. My responsibilities within the team
were to look after the progress of the tasks and to help the different members in case of any
issues. There were different tasks such as to collect relevant data from the internet by carrying
out effective research, making arrangements, evaluating the data, bringing more facts,
monitoring the entire tasks and completing it successfully. The monitoring of the execution of
the work processes by each of the members was important being a team leader of the group
(Olson, Slater, Hult & Olson, 2018). I was also checking the research carried out by the other
team members of the group to keep the work on the right track.
2. Reflection –
A. My characteristics
I have a few of the vital characteristics that helped me in evaluating the effectiveness of the
entire processes of the concerned group work. I have the transformational quality as a leader that
helps in evaluating the effectiveness of my decision-making process. In any of the situation, I
have the desired tackle it with proper solutions and turn it into a successful one. Moreover, I
strictly follow work ethics and also like to see all my team members following the discipline and
work ethics while working for a group. The work ethics are considered vital in evaluating the
desired effectiveness and success for the entire work processes (Hutchinson, Donnell, Gilmore &

Reid, 2015). One of my qualities is that I like to maximize the efforts and output provided by
another member of the group to boost the overall group performance and to bring the desired
positive results (Strandburg-Peshkin, Farine, Couzin & Crofoot, 2015). My personality also
reveals the fact that, every task need to be submitted with excellent quality and this can be done
by getting proper cooperation and efforts for all of the team members of the group.
B. My characteristics impacted the team interactions
My characteristics have helped in influencing the work that was going to be carried out by the
other three members as they have paid much attention to their respective works to bring excellent
quality for the entire tasks. The decision-making process includes some factors, like choices,
selection and getting influenced by the concerned surrounding (Agoritsas et al., 2015). My
characteristics like making effective decisions by analyzing the situations properly and following
the work ethics have brought positive changes in the group members by influencing them. The
group members were influenced by seeing my decision-making ability and work ethics, and this
has made them increase the percentage of maintaining discipline within the group. Also, the
cooperation and communication level between the team members has increased to a greater
extent. The use of theory proposed by Carron's model reveals the fact that a group of people will
construct the strongest bond if the purpose of values is shared between them and a clear structure
for communication purposes (Day, Fleenor, Atwater, Sturm & McKee, 2014).
Moreover, my characteristics have helped all members in following the Carron's model, and the
shared values have increased the effectiveness of the tasks executed by the group members. Also,
the evaluation of the Belbin's theory reveals that differences among the role of the team members
facilitate and influences the overall cohesion of the entire team members (McCleskey, 2014). My
characteristics have impacted on the minds of the other three members, and they have put their
best effort to bring out the desired facts associated with the project, and this finally raises the
quality level of the entire group work. Therefore, the use of Belbin's theory has helped all of us
to put own efforts into bringing the positive outcomes for the entire group.
C. What sort of decision maker are you? How will this impact the decisions you make in your
future professional life.
The results evaluates the facts that I am a risk-avoider, a maximizer, and a high procrastinator. I
am ready to risks, but it is better if they can be avoided as this will help in enhancing the overall

quality of the tasks executed. In case of a financial matter, it becomes vital to consult with the
financial advisors or senior members of the group as it will help to lower the desired amount of
risk (Storey, 2016). My total score of 24 makes to stand as a risk avoider. On the other hand, I
am a maximizer and like to utilize the efforts provided by each of the team members for
maximizing the desired output and quality of the tasks performed by the group. I am also a high
procrastinator that will help in reducing the risks and bringing positive outcomes for the
respective tasks. These will create a great impact on my future decision within professional life
as it will help in bringing positive results so that I can achieve my career goals. In case of crucial
situations, the decision can be taken easily with the help of these factors, and it will present me
as a successful leader to by handling risky situations and motivating all me future team members
and colleagues.
d. Changes required in the future
There are few of the crucial things that I would like to change in future; these include the
interference with other members to increase the reliability and quality of the task. Also, I would
like to enhance my overall communicational skills as it will help in facilitating the sharing of
messages with great effectiveness throughout the group members. Moreover, I would like utilize
other people's experience in developing and enhancing my decision-making process to
perfection. Furthermore, I would like to utilize my time in executing my work processes rather
than wasting it in other non-useful works. Also, I will use the theories proposed by Belbin to
facilitating the effectiveness of my group work and the decision-making process (Frich,
Brewster, Cherlin & Bradley, 2015).
