INTRODUCTION
Business Communication skills are critical to the success of any organization . It is interlinked
with internal culture and external image of any organization. Business communication is the
sharing information in form of written,reading or talking. Business communication is important
for every organization because it is indirectly related to growth and marketing of the business.
This reports main purpose is to explain the students how they can improve their reading and
writing ability in business communication (Malyuga, and Orlova, 2017). This report will show
different strategies to improve reading and writing ability.
Analysis and Discussion
Reading and writing ability is the important process in business communication. Reading skills
refer to specific abilities that enable a person to read with independence and interact with the
message. It is the ability to understand information presented in a written form. Written ability is
also important in business. It is important to take permanent records and it allow to store
information (Heo, and Lee, 2018). Writing skills are necessary for legal and binding
documentation.
1. Strategies To Improve Reading Ability
Reading ability is defined as the level of understanding of a text or message. There is many
methods to improve and measure the reading ability. Students can use following strategies to
improve their reading ability.
Reading For Grist:
In reading Grist meaning is the overall, the core idea, of written words in a message or
text. When student take a quick look at a written text to establish the basic understanding
towards message or text it is known as “Reading for Gist”. This strategy is useful to improve
reading ability. Students can use this ability to get basic idea about text or message. Readers can
save the time and they can easily get idea about text and they can also ignore grammatical words.
Scanning:
Scanning means search or scan for specific word or information such as particular name,
number, program, date etc. Scanning allowed to read up to 1,500 words in a minute. Student can
use this strategy when they need to find specific information quickly. Scanning is helpful in

reading because it reduce time to understand particular paragraph or passage. To use scanning
person first state the specific information than try to develop how the answer will appear and
what clues may use to help to get answers. They can also use headings that will help to identify
which section might contain the information which they are looking for. They must read
selective text and skip unnecessary message to save time.
Scanning includes three steps:
1. Search for key words
2. Move quickly over the page
3. Less reading and more searching
Example of Scanning: A google search list on the internet, conference guide and bus or
airplane schedule.
Skimming:
Skimming is used to quickly understand most important information. In this it is not
essential to understand each word in text or message (Rolle, 2019). Students can use skimming
to quickly get up to speed on a current business situation. This strategy use to improve reading
ability because it helps to understand general idea of message or text. It is used to get general
idea of a message or text. Skimming allowed to read up to 1000 words in a minute.
To use skimming person should remember following points:
Don't try to read everything try to skip the text
Read the first and last sentences of paragraphs.
Read the introduction and the summary.
Read a few examples until you understand the concepts they are meant to illustrate.
Notice picture, charts, diagrams or graphics.
Read the summary or last paragraph if there is one.
In skimming person can understand the meaning of message by reading titles, subheadings,
words in bold, italic, underlined or in different font, diagrams, a reports abstract, introduction,
conclusion, objective, summary or first sentence of every paragraph.
Example of Skimming: The Newspaper – to quickly get the general news of the day. Business
and travel Brochure's – to quickly get informed.

Note Taking is essential skill for business or academics. It help students to get deeper
understand and reflection and a better ability to remember important point. To improve reading
ability Note Taking is helpful strategy, It helps students to understand text in their own language
and in comparison to reading and understanding whole message notes take less time (Nourdad,
Masoudi, and Rahimali, 2018).

Reading for Details: In reading it is used as sub-skill. It is used for reading in a text with the

project objective to answer effectively. This method is useful to understand text or message in
details so readers doesn't left anything important.
2. Strategies To Improve Quality of Writing
There are a lot of methods and measures which an individual can take in order to be able
to operate effectively in the projects in which they are participating. Writing has to be effective
through which they are going to communicate their ideas and concept effective so that the
audience is going to take the right idea from the methods which they are using. The students can
take the following measures in order to be able to operate effectively which is going to be good
for the overall development.
Keeping positive attitude
There are a lot of improvements which students have to make in their writing so that they
would be able to provide the best to the readers. Having a positive attitude on the topic and the
feedbacks which are being given to the students is going to make the project be able to get the
best which is a very essential factor (Xu and et.al., 2019).
Correct grammar and spelling

There are a lot of errors which a human being makes therefore the words and spelling
which are being used by the individual have to be rechecked so that there is going to be higher
operations and there are going to be even higher outcomes which would be present. The
grammar has to be used effective so that there is good communication which would be present so
that there is going to be good understanding of the topic which the students have taken up.
Critical thinking
There are a lot of ideas which an individual is having in their minds, and they want to
show them to the audience so that there is going to be higher satisfaction. It is important that
only the essential factors are put in front of the audience and those topics which are going to
capture the attention of the readers as well. Students have to make sure that they are thinking of
the topic well so that the results are going to be higher.
Proof reading
It is important for the students to read after writing the project so that they are aware of
the topic they have discussed. There are a lot of improvement which can be made by the students
in the projects when they re-read their project which is a very essential factor and the outcomes
is also going to be effective for the students (Rosário and et.al., 2019). Students make a lot of
errors and reading the project again is not going to be harmful for the students but time-
consuming and the end results are going to be higher than expected.
Correct referencing
The students have to use the right referencing for the ideas and information they are
putting out to the readers so that re-checking that topic is going to be higher. Checking the
information is essential so that the outcomes is going to be higher and the readers are going to be
satisfied as well if the referencing is present so that they can get the right knowledge.
