INTRODUCTION
Motivation is key element that helps the individual to perform and work hard to achieve the
goals in specific time period. The present report will describe in detail motivation through Maslow
need hierarchy theory. Also, the report will identify various factors that motivate employees to
perform better at workplace to deliver great results.
MAIN BODY
Describing Motivation Mean
It is derived from word motive which means wants, desires, needs etc that drives within the
individuals. In other words it is process of energizing people into actions so that desired goals can be
accomplished (D'Souza and Gurin, 2017). Motivation can be explained through Maslow hierarchy
need theory where the human needs are depicted in form of pyramid. The lowest level in pyramid
consists of physiological or basic needs of humans that motivates them which includes food, water,
rest etc. Above basic need is safety needs that helps person to feel safe and secure in their life and
surroundings. The third level need outlines good understanding and bond with family, friends, peers
etc that makes up an individual and is continuous source of motivation. The fourth level is esteem
needs of individual which drives him to achieve recognition, status and feel respected on every
ground (20 Simple Ways to Increase Motivation in the Workplace, 2021). Final level in Maslow is self
actualization needs where person aspire to become the best version. This is achieved through utilizing
skills, talents and obtaining the required skills to carry out the specific job roles in any field.
Motivation in any individual or employee can also categorize into two types intrinsic and
extrinsic. Intrinsic motivation is considered internal factor as employees are motivated to perform
certain task and works because they feel satisfying and enjoyable (Di Domenico and Ryan, 2017).
The goal is set from within and best outcome give a sense of satisfaction. On the other side extrinsic
motivation is external activity that is performed in order to get some results and appreciation from
outside sources in form of money, power, fame etc. and does not include basic needs. Most of the
times the best results and high level of motivation in individual is achieved through extrinsic
motivation as rewards are associated with it and people tend to give better results and are ready to
take new responsibilities for the organisation. Also, they try to explore new skills and projects so that
they are able to overcome various challenges in the easier manner.
