A person’s mental health and other common mental disorder are shaped via economic,
physical and social environments operating at different stages of life (Reiss 2013). Social
inequalities are one of the prime risk factors associated with mental disorders. Greater the
inequality, greater is the inequality in health (Allen et al. 2014). The disadvantaged and poor
people suffer disproportionately. However, the group of population residing in the middle of the
social gradient are also affected. This SOP aims to take actions to improve the condition of
everyday life starting from birth, towards the progression of early childhood, adolescence and
older age (Allen et al. 2014).
I think action throughout these life stages will help to provide opportunities for
improving mental health and wellbeing of the population. This action plan goes in accordance
with the reports published by Allen et al. (2014), that states that mental is directly linked with the
physical health of a person and proper improvement plan for uplifting health and wellbeing of
the population with a special mention to the vulnerable group will help to reduce the inequalities
in physical health.
I would like to suggest that such actions are required to be universal, across the entire
society and must be proportionate with the requirement. Policy framing at all levels of

governance and across different sectors of the population can help to achieve positive difference
(Allen et al. 2014).
Work together with people, their families and with other organisations to ensure the provision of
helpful, timely and good value social services
It is recognised internationally that the health are access to comprehensive health care
and its associated inequalities vary across the social gradient (Butler et al. 2013). This SOP aims
to reduce the health disparity via targeted health resource allocation via working in unison with
the people, their families and the associated social care organisations. As per my opinion,
working in closed association each other will help to reveal the gaps in the science behind the
population risk assessment. According to Butler et al. (2013), such actions is extremely effective
for small areas as it will help to ascertain the gaps in the socioeconomic gradients while
highlighting the lack of consensus about rational service areas. Thus understanding how the
socioeconomic status help to access the overall physical and mental health service and how the
application of socioeconomic status guide the uniform distribution of resources will help in
reducing the health disparity (Butler et al. 2013; McLaughlin et al. 2012).

According to World Health Organisation (2008), Global health and wellbeing with a
special mention to the global mental health is an emerging priority under the banner of the global
initiatives for health. The burden of mental disorders and health inequalities account for one-
third of years (approximately) lived with disability among the group of population between 15
years old and above (WHO 2008). Despite high rate of prevalence and cost to access mental
disorders, more than 90% who are in an urgent requirement of the treatment remain deprived

(Murray et al. 2014). Some of the major barriers in addressing mental health treatment gap is
lack of co-ordination between the different sectors of society and high rate of prevalence of
health inequalities especially among the vulnerable group. So proper policies, funding and health
infrastructure will help in the overall upliftment of the health and wellbeing of the society
(Murray et al. 2014). Thus the two SOP are consistent with each other and will help to achieve
the desired outcome.
