ENGLISH PARAPHRASE
It was the same evening when Blanche left. The sky was hued in dark orange and there
was ominous silence. There were a lot of faint musical tones which were echoing form the Four
Deuces.
STELLA is sitting in a chair on the porch, hunching her shoulders, a little and pressing her legs
close to each other and she continues to sob. The autumnal leaves are blowing and STANLEY,
STEVE, PABLO, and MITCH continues to play with the undertones. The kitchen’s atmosphere
appears to be raw and threatening. STELLA is comforted and taken care of by EUNICE. She
looks after STELLA, consoles STELLA, and helps her to deal with the present situations and
stops he form crying, by holding her in her arms.
STELLA- What I have I done to my sister? (sobbing in corner) What will I do now?
EUNICE- There, there dear. You did your best.
STANLEY (from the inside)- Its ok STELLA, everything will be fine.
STELLA (shakes her head in agony): I felt that Belle Reve to start my own life. It is my fault
that Blanch lost Belle Reve and I was not there to help or support her. In addition, I have
removed her from my life! I feel so guilty and bad! I am ashamed of myself! Oh God!
EUNICE: Ah, Stella1 Stop now! Do not hurt yourself so much dear! She has a good company
now and will be having a good time there.
The Chairs on the kitchen floor are scraped as the men tries to get up. STELLA wipes her tears.
MITCH comes outside and have a whiskey bottle in his hand. He gets clatters down the steps
and walks away slowly. She looks down with the guilt and awkwardness. STANLEY comes
meanwhile in the porch and clumsily hugs STELLA. EUNICE leaves STANLEY and STELLA
some personal time. They share a personal moment and makes them towards the bedroom with
the baby towards the bedroom.

STELLA seems to be very faint and exhausted as well. She sits down at the other side of bed
slowly and faintly. She lays the baby down on the bed beside her, makes her prepared, and pulls
herself off the depression and the self-hurting guilt.
STANLEY (caresses STELLA and rubs his hands on her back) - what is bothering you dear?
STELLA- I did not stop her from going! I let her go Stan!
STANLEY- What can be done, though she has been living in a world full of imagination and
lies.
STELLA- You always misunderstood Blanche.
STANLEY (in a fervent matter)- But I always understood you! Stella! Can’t we resume to our
old days, rectify our wrong doings, and start over a fresh beginning? Making lives better forever.
How our lives used to be before? How we used to make our lives better and live together taking
care of each other. Do you remember that dear? Do you remember how we used to share our
time with each other? We used to love each other so much, until she came and interfered in our
lives.
STELLA- stares at her hands and makes any type of movement.
(STANLEY takes STELLA by her waist; STELLA tightens her shoulders as well)-Is everything all
right with you dear? Has anything changed? Do you feel uncomfortable dear?
STELLA (says in a quiet manner) - You need not to be so cruel Stan!
STANLEY (standing up angrily and tries to make the statement) - Why are you so nagging all
the time? I have to be what I am! I cannot ignore myself! She took up my apartment, insulting

me. (rips off the last lantern form light bulb on the ceiling fan and throws it at STELLA’s feet).
She had no right and lied a lot to me.
STELLA- Were you intimate with Blanche? yes or no?
STANLEY- No
STELLA- I should know the truth Stan!
STANLEY- What? How dare you! Blanche has impacted on so much! I am just taken away by
your response to this? What about the baby? You have gone nuts!
[STELLA gets visibly angry now and falls feebly by the chair, too exhausted and tired to fight.]
Stella dear, I did not sleep with Blanche.
STELLA- I dint know what to say or what to believe.
STANLEY- I just couldn’t do that dear.
STELLA- I would like to believe you but I can’t.
STANLEY (being impatient)- Why? Why can’t you believe me?
STELLA- I don’t know! I don’t know what to say!
STANLEY- The Kowalskis and the DuBois are not meant to be together. We have different
ideologies.
STELLA- Yeah.
STANLEY- So what are you willing to do?
The baby starts to cry and STELLA quickly pays attention to her.

So tell me Stella whose life do you want? Blanches’ or me?
STELLA [entering the kitchen] how insensible are you Stanley? How can I choose?
STANLEY [strongly] - You must choose Stel!
STELLA feeds the baby with the bottle. The lights in the kitchen gets dark and the “blue piano”
starts to play in its own tune. STANLEY’s confrontation has put STELLA in a panic state. She
finds herself in the middle of a battle. She seeks answer and is in a problematic situation. She
looks to the sky, which appears to be turquoise hue, and STELLA presently seems to be having
blurred vision as she is faint and is dizzy and tired. Certain bright colors are shown in faded
form.
STELLA- I am not able to leave the baby. I am a mother.
STANLEY- Yes, the baby, me; both of us need you Stella!
STELLA [finds a mental shelter]- Oh my dear Stan! I need you too! I need to care about you and
us as well! I am very sorry Stan, for reacting like this!
STELLA’s eyes are filled with tears, STANLEY and STELLA comes and hug together. They do a
soft moan for each other caressing each other.
