STRESS, ILLNESS AND PERSONALITY 1
Relationship between stress, Ill Health and Personality
Stress is a reaction caused by the body due to the occurrence of a specific event which make the
person frustrated, angry and nervous. This affects both personality and the health of the person
suffering from the stress (Fisher, 2015). Here, the essay has discussed the research evaluation in
terms of the relationship among stress, ill health and personality and also the strength and
weaknesses of the research made and how it links with the evidences drawn from the research.
Research evaluation is made from the peer reviewed journal articles and academic books in
which the relevant articles and books chapters have been reviewed that clearly supports the
relationship between the stress and ill health. As per the research, there is a huge relationship
between the stress and ill health as stress causes severe diseases and the emergence of various
kinds of disorders affecting the physical and mental wellbeing of the individual (Cassel, 2017).
Short term stress can casus adverse effect on the immune systems and causes chronic disorder
which manifest illness through suppressing of T cells levels which can later lead to viral
infections. Stress has been the major cause for the occurrence of disorders that can harm the
individuals and ultimately a major reason for the diseases such as diabetes, ulcers and also
plaque building up. Thus, there is a correlation between the stress and illness in which stressful
life events can cause the psychotic disorders (Bieliauskas, 2019).
Further, strength of the research is that it has been conducted from the reliable sources such as
peer reviews journal articles and the academic books that are being written by the professional
experts. Weakness of the research could be that the research is highly relying on the secondary
sources which may have the tendency to be inaccurate. Moreover, this research is highly related
with the relationship between the stress and personality as the evidences drawn are helpful in the
determination of the fact that the personality is affected by the stress. Moreover, stress is closely
related with the personality as the reactions of the distressed person can cause the behaviors due
to the overreaction, confusion and performance anxiety (Różanowski, et al., 2015). Moreover,
the research is linked with the relationship between stress and personality as stress affects the
personality characteristics in the individual in which there are changes in the locus of control,
self-efficacy, self-esteem and optimism which are duly affected by the stress. Thus, the

breakdown or the stressful events that can harm the physical or mental wellbeing of the
individual. Here, the essay has discussed the relationship among stress, ill health and the
