Shaw and Ogilvie (2018) focused on identifying the pros of the student’s involvement in
the part time work and the manner in which it helps in enriching the learning experience of the
pupils. The paper aims at identifying and contradicting to the traditional belief of the manner in
which the part time jobs affect the academic learning of the students. The method that was used
by the researcher while undertaking the research is a review of the literature on WBL (Work
Based Learning). The small- scale research on the literature has helped the researchers to
conclude with part time work as a site for undergraduate WBL. The findings of the research
highlighted that the students are generally benefitted through the part time work as it helps in
providing them with a practical application of the knowledge.

Robotham (2011) emphasized on the identification of the different instances that are
faced by the student’s involvement in the part time work while undertaking their academic
learning. The paper aims at understanding the manner in which part time work of the students
helps in understanding the different levels of change in the academic settings. The method that
was used by the researcher is dependent on the survey questionnaire of full-time undergraduates
within a university in UK. The findings of the study reflected that some percentile of the students
spent long hours in their work rather than their classes. However, after the completion of the
survey it was concluded that the positive impacts of the part time work on the students were

more than the negative impacts, which stated that the part time work is beneficial for the
students.

Curtis, S. (2007) stated in the article that the part time work of the students contributed to
their further learning, which might have been interrupted through the factors of lack of parental
support of funds and other factors. The key elements that are highlighted as part of the research
is based on the identification of the needs of the students to bring in changes in their academic
schedules. The paper aims at understanding the identifying the different levels of change in the
outlook of part time work undertaken by the students as it supports the needs of the students
through financial support and practical knowledge and experience. The method that was used by
the researcher is a survey where 336 undergraduates completed questionnaires about their
employment. The chief findings of the research was that some 59 % of students were employed
and during the survey it was found that there were no issues faced by the students to balance
between their academic career and work. Therefore, it can be concluded that the students are able
to cope up with the part time work while performing in their academics.

Barron and Anastasiadou (2008) examined the different factors that affected the part time work
that is undertaken by the students while pursuing their academic studies. The research aims at
highlighting the challenges and opportunities that are faced by the students for higher education

while performing their part time job roles. The paper aims at examining the manner in which the
students face different opportunities and threats while working as a cohort of full time hospitality
and tourism industry, studying at a university in Scotland. The method that was used by the
researcher is based on the questionnaire that was created and the students, studying at the
hospitality and tourism university, were chosen for the survey. The findings of the research is
that female candidates are mostly involved in the part time works and those students coming
from the Eastern European countries worked for longer hours. However, no impacts of their
services could be found on the education or their academic careers. Therefore, it portrayed a
positive impact of the part time work on the student’s academics.
