ABSTRACT
Academic skills is the crucial part for the students and for their future growth. For
attaining the success in the life it is important to develop the skill set in order to achieve the
goals. The universities focus on developing the skills a the time of the academic learning. It
included various skill such as note taking, listening, reading etc. which need to be developed
from time to time. This is an important aspect for the individual to perform better in its higher
education. The most important skill required in listening skill for the students which is been
taught in the course so that the individual is able to identify the accuracy of the message received
from the sender.
INTRODUCTION
Academic skill is defined as the aspect of behaviour which is learned and observed by the
individual in their higher education. The skills which is taught to the students in their higher
education for their development and success. The academic skills are made up of core skills such
as academic writing, presentation skills, listening skill, critical thinking etc. These skills not only
develop the individuals in their education but also in their professional life. It is important to
develop these skills at the time of higher studies as it is very much important for the workplace.
Now a days the organisations are looking for the fresh talent with the skills so that they need to
not prepare the candidate on the skill set. They hire those candidates who already have the ability
to analyse and find the new opportunities for the organisation for its growth and
success(Aldowah, Al-Samarraie and Fauzy, 2019). This report will include the seven skill which
are taught in the course with its importance. Also it will include recommendations.
MAIN BODY
Discuss the seven skills which are taught during the course and why it is important for students?
There are various skill which are taught during the course discussed below:
Note taking- It is a skill which requires practice of recording information from the
different sources and platforms(Bastos and et.al., 2019). This is skill considered as
powerful to aid communication, if the student is making notes or key point of what has

been heard and listened so that in future the it is easy to summarise and retain the
knowledge. It is very important skill which can be applied in all the aspects of life. It is
very important to recognise taking notes should not distract the listening power of an
individual. An effective note taking include the noting down the important key points
which can be identified and analysed later . It is important skill set at the workplace and
higher education for an individual. It notes can be taken on different platforms such as on
laptop, diary, smart phones etc. in which the student is comfortable and is able to
remember what has been taught(Forndran and Zacharias, 2019).
Reading skill- It refers to the abilities that pertain to the individuals capacity to read,
interpret, analyse and decode the written language or the piece of message or
information. The reading is highly important or considered as the crucial part in the life
of an individual as it will help in responding to the messages, texts, emails, letter etc.
which is required in day to day activities in the life. This skill is very important in the life
of the student as it is very much useful in the workplace. This skill is been taught in the
academic because the student need to understand the importance of reading the
information is a correct manner so that the person is able to understand the matter while
reading it. In the workplace it is important to understand the various information which
been been on the emails, messages etc.(Huda, and et.al., 2018).
Listening skill- It is the ability of an individual to accurately understand the received
message in the process of communication. It is the important aspect in term of
communicating in the academic or workplace. It is important that the student is able to
listen effectively because without this miscommunication can be created and the desired
objective cannot be pertain. It is considered very important in the business organisation as
some of the organisation provide training for their employees of the listening skills
because this can lead to better customer satisfaction an higher productivity in the
workplace. The academic learning focus on this aspect and train students according to the
future expectation at the time of interview or in the workplace. Many successful leaders
and the entrepreneurs says that for the success it is important to develop the listening skill
which will enhance in performing better and developing new ideas(Gunning, 2017).
Academic writing- The academic skills are the talents and the habits that benefit the
academic pursuits such as learning, writing, reports, presentations etc. the academic

writing included the tone and the proper formation of sentences so that it has meaningful
of the message or the information. The individual is required to develop its academic
writing skill during the higher education because it is considered as an important aspect
from the point of business organisations. In today's world the organisation focus on the
candidates which have the skills so that they do not need to spend much on the training. It
is important in the academic also that the work which is assigned should have the original
content and the student is able to write in the correct tone and give the correct
informat5ion or message about the particular task(Wang, and et.al., 2017).
How to write an introduction- This also included the skill set which is required in the
students by the professors. The student has different tasks and projects that need to
performed during the academic learning in their universities. It included various types of
projects, reports, research paper, presentations etc. it is very important for the students
that they should know how to write an introduction of any report. This includes the
proper forming of sentences and the information required in the report(Peng, and et.al.,
2017). The individual need to understand that while writing introduction of any topic
should include the proper information about things which will include in the report and a
brief information about the topic. This is important aspect in the academic
learning(García, Argelagós and Privado, 2019).
How to write conclusion- This is also considered as an important skill during the higher
education. The student should know the importance of writing conclusion for any report
of research paper. This skill will help the student to summarise the information in a short
way. The report which student make in his/ her day to day activities in its academic
learning. It is an important aspect that any information which has been provided should
have a clear conclusion. This included various things such as the conclusion must contain
the relevant point from the report or the information. This skill will develop the thinking
and the way to interpret the message or information which is provided. It is important for
students in their workplace also because the in end it matter hat the discussion been done
should have accurate conclusion and the individual should have the ability to conclude
the message accurately(Şendağ, Gedik, and Toker, 2018)
In-text citations and referencing- This included providing the authentic sources in the
reports so that the professors is able to identify the links and able to understand from

where the information has been taken to have a more clear idea. It is taught in the
academic that a report is incomplete without citations and referencing. From this the
professor are able to understand what is the original content and how much of the
information is been taken from the other sources. It is considered as an important skill for
every students which need to be focused as it the proper way of submitting the reports in
the academic. It is a part of academic learning(Perin, 2018).
Recommendations
From the above discussion on the various skills which are taught in the academic learning
it is recommended that the students need to focus on all the skills and mainly on the listening
skills. The individual should able to develop these skills so that he/ she is able to perform, better
in its academic scores. The individual should focus on the listening skill. This skill can be
focused while taking notes of the important factors which can be recognised later. To give the
conclusion on the topic or any research it is important that the student is able to identify the key
aspects of the message or information. This only can be developed while practising on the talents
in day to day life(Goux, Gurgand and Maurin, 2017).
CONCLUSION
From the above report it is concluded that academic skills included the various activities
that need to be concentrated by the students to perform better in their academic scores which will
help them in future. It is important for the students to develop the skills at the time of learning
because now a days the organisations hire those candidate who have a talent and ability on the
various aspects such has listening skill, reading skill. The various skills which are required in
academic learning are notes taking, reading, writing, listening, how to write introduction and
conclusion, in texting citations and referencing. These are considered as the significant part in
the higher education. They students are been analysed from their scores and this included the
accuracy of the content and the projects or reports which the student submit to its professors.
This skills help the students to develop their mindsets and they are able to create more ideas,
