INTRODUCTION
Study skills are array of skills which tackle process of organising as well as taking in new
information, dealing with assessment and retaining information. They consists mnemonics which
help in retention of information lists, concentration techniques and effective reading (Fuhs and
et. al., 2014). In this report will be discuss about main reason for studying degree at university.
MAIN BODY
1) Main reasons for studying degree at university
High quality of teaching and also availability of the scholarship are two most necessary
factor that students looked at when selecting university. On the basis of case study, students have
the different reasons for attending university. Their main goals is related to desired education
type. The study plan is a necessary way to navigate by college education in organized manner.
Under this, students need to determine their learning goals for study session in context to
enhance schedule study time. Students go university for several reason such as social life,
academic interest and future career (Knight, McKissick and Saunders, 2013). Many of the
students attend university to study about the specific subject in depth. Through going university
for studying degree helps in increase career opp as well as earning potential. The main other
reason for studying in University is to find the job in easy manner and also can get the benefit in
areas such as personal development and salary.
2) Core academic skills that can be developed and their importance
Academic skills are made up of the core skills like presentation skills, academic writing,
referencing which underpin the more difficult skills for an instance reflective practice and critical
thinking. The academic skills are applied to learning. These are necessary to success in school
and also considered as necessary for acquiring the better graded and also useful for learning
throughout life. The academic skills are essential for searching and keeping the jobs which give
steady income, opportunities and benefits for better advancement. There are different academic
core skills with their importance. Paraphrasing is one of the most important academic skill. It is
related to expressing in own words ideas, arguments and some other material that found
publishes elsewhere. It is complex linguistic skills to incorporate the work of other smoothly and
effectively in to own through paraphrasing (Miller and Votruba-Drzal, 2013). It is necessary
because it shows understand source in well manner enough to write in own words. The other

skill is academic writing, it is style of expression that investigator use to explain intellectual
boundaries of disciplines and also their particular expertise areas. Note- taking is also an
academic core skill and in this students copy the notes of professor and also check the Moodle.
Taking the notes in tutorials and lectures is necessary skills for study of university. Better note-
taking allows permanent record to the key information can integrate with own writing. The main
importance of note – taking is to make improvement in focus and also promote the active
learning. It is helpful in improving organisation skills. Learning styles are range of contested
and competing theories which aim is to account for the differences in learning of person. Many
people identify that person prefers various learning techniques and styles. In addition to this,
learning style group is common method that people learn (Rabiner, Godwin and Dodge, 2016).
Linguistic is learning style and in this person learns best by linguistic skills consisting writing,
speaking, reading and listening. It is nature of profession and some of best professors and
teachers are linguistic learners. Kinaesthetic learner is an individual that learns best through
doing something. These types of people are scientific in nature and should communicate with
objects to learn about them. Intra personal learner is also necessary learning style as they set the
goals which are challenging not impossible. They are motivated through internal forces than
external. They often introverted people not always. These people enter creative areas, become
entrepreneurs and some time owners of small business. Interpersonal learner is someone that
learns through relating to the others. These types of people share their stories, compare their
ideas and work better in teams. They are good leaders naturally and team players also.
3) Study plan including short term and long term goals that help in acquiring and developing
skills
Study plan refers to organised schedule that students develop outline study times as well
as learning objectives. It is one of the effective way to help in navigate education in college in
organised manner. There is a need to determine the learning objectives for every session of study
in context to enhance study time schedules (Von Suchodoletz and et. al., 2013). On the other
hand, study plan is laid out schedule developed through students by listing their learning
objectives and study time.
