INTRODUCTION
It is important to learn and study regarding the several types of skills which are needed at the
higher education by the students. These skills will helpful for students in terms of starting their
professional life and also develop it in an effective manner. There are different types of skills
which can be learnt by the students at the higher education including reading, writing,
communication and so on. Study skills plays an important role behind the overall growth and
success of students as it improves them to become more efficient learners (Rodriguez and
Armellini, 2017). There are several skills that can be learned by the students to perform better in
their academic career like time management or communication skills. Enhancing the
communication skills will helpful for students to develop confidence to share their ideas and
viewpoints with other without having any sort of misunderstanding. The report covers detailed
analysis regarding the students to become successful in the academic career and suitable skills
which are taught in higher education.

Study skills are a set of abilities that students must possess in order to improve their academic
performance and attain their career goals. Skills are described as an individual's ability to
improve their performance and attain their academic goals. Students with the right talents are
more likely to succeed in their future careers. The study skills for higher education course covers
a variety of skills that will help students study more successfully and achieve better
achievements in their academic careers. The following are the primary abilities that are primarily
taught in the study skills for higher education skills course:
Reading comprehension skills: Another necessary talent for a student is reading
comprehension, which is defined as the capacity to read text effectively, process it, and analyse
its content. Reading comprehension skills are primarily determined by two interconnected
talents, such as word reading, which entails the ability to decipher the text. The other is language
comprehension, which refers to the ability to efficiently determine the meaning of words. This
skill will assist pupils in effectively processing and determining the meaning of what they are
reading (Bonsaksen and et. al., 2019). Reading is crucial for a student to have better results or
grades. Students will not be able to understand what they read if they lack good comprehension
reading skills, which will have an impact on their academic progress. Students with good

comprehension reading skills, on the other hand, will be better able to absorb crucial teachings,
stories, and debates, allowing them to perform better in school.
Note taking skills: Note taking skills are another skill taught in the skills for higher
education course; it is the ability of students to record relevant information from diverse sources
and platforms. Taking notes allows students or individuals to capture the substance of knowledge
while also helping them to recall it easily when needed. It also makes it easier for the learner to
remember key knowledge and achieve academic achievement (Howard and et. al., 2018). The
technique of jotting down significant information in a methodical manner or recording important
bits of information is known as note taking. It is thought to be one of the most important talents
for students to have in order to succeed in their academic careers. Students who learn this skill
will be able to study more successfully and achieve better academic results. The teacher must
guarantee that these abilities are adequately taught to the pupils in order for them to perform
better.
Stress management skills: It refers to a variety of approaches used by a person to control
and manage their stress levels. Stress is primarily caused by a sense of being enslaved and
trapped by challenges encountered on a daily basis. Students are mostly immobilised by their
inability to get a positive solution for a difficult activity, which can lead to stress (Feudel and
Dietz, 2019). It is critical for them to manage and control their stress in order to perform better
and achieve desired achievements in their academic careers. Stress can cause pupils to perform
poorly and produce unfavourable results. It can also have a direct impact on their academic
performance. Teachers must teach students how to manage their stress so that they can perform
better. They should be trained to approach problems in little steps. Stress management skills will
aid students in achieving academic achievement as well as greater performance in their future
careers.
Creative thinking skills: Creative thinking skills, or the ability to identify something new
and creative, are another important talent for pupils' development. Students can use creative
thinking to come up with new ideas and give new and unique solutions to challenges (Cameron,
2019). For a student, the ability to think creatively is extremely significant; it is regarded as one
of their most valued talents. It is necessary because it allows students to approach a problem or
circumstance from a positive perspective and come up with unique solutions to address it. In
order to achieve better achievements, students must strengthen their creative thinking skills.

Problem solving skills: It is the ability to identify and solve problems by applying
appropriate abilities in a methodical manner. It is a continuous process that allows an individual
to properly analyse and define the problem, construct a mind map, and then uncover all viable
solutions to the problem (Cottrell, 2020). In their academic careers, students face a variety of
issues that can obstruct their progress or success. It is critical for them to successfully solve their
challenge in order to avoid those roadblocks and become successful. Students will be able to
reach their chosen career goals and objectives as well as perform better if their problem-solving
skills are improved.
Communication Skills: Understanding the distinctions in communication, which includes
face-to-face encounters, phone conversations, and digitalized communications such as email and
other social media platforms, is critical for students. All of these communication skills are
required for students to have a successful job. Strong communication skills are essential for
ensuring that others and oneself understand information more accurately and swiftly. Listening,
body language, confidence, respect, and using the appropriate media are all crucial factors for
pupils to enhance their communication abilities (Mukingambeho and et. al., 2019). Good
communication skills also helped students pass the selection process and get an interview.
Students have negative consequences as a result of poor communication, such as a lack of
precise communication, the use of inappropriate channels to transmit messages, failure to listen,
blaming others, and so on. Students with poor communication skills will be unable to pass the
final interview for any job in any organisation. As a result, communication skills are a critical
component for students, both in terms of exams and in the workplace.
Active listening skills: It is a listening pattern that keeps you engaged in a nice
conversation with your companion. It's also a good approach to develop children' listening skills
by encouraging them to make a conscious effort to hear the entire message. Students should let
the other person know that they are listening to what they are saying to improve their listening
abilities. Try to respond to the speaker in a good manner that encourages them to continue
speaking (Khan and et. al., 2020). You can get vital and accurate information from clients or
other people this way. Students must take certain measures in order to develop active listening
abilities. It entails paying attention, providing criticism, differing in judgement, responding
appropriately, and demonstrating that you are paying attention. Students benefit from improved
active listening abilities in other ways as well. Their productivity grew as a result of improving

their listening skills, as did their capacity to influence and negotiate, which helped them avoid
confrontation.
CONCLUSION
From the preceding discussion, it has been analysed that the skills play an important role for
the growth of students. It is also identified that there are different skills which can be learned by
student to perform better in their university and achieve higher results. Suitable skills like
communication will helps students to represent their ideas and views with others without any sort
of misunderstanding. Further, time management skills help students to effectively divide their
time according to the task and get expected result. There are several skills that can be learned by
the students in their academic career that will help them to perform effective in their future and
present career path. This report helps in identifying the significance of academic skills in growth
of students. This report helps in identifying the number of skills for the higher education course
like active listening, communication, time management and so on. Improving these skills will
help students to get better results and achieve desired career goals.
