INTRODUCTION
It is very essential for students to set goals as it helps to increase their opportunities for
their future. This is an individual essay which helps to understand the importance of setting goals
as a student in university and there is a brief explanation about different methods which helps to
increase the leaning potential of students of University.
Importance of Setting Academic Goals
Academic goals are the objectives which are set by the students in the university to
analyse educational performance according to their goals. Academic goals are type of
performance indicator which keep students on the right track to achieve their objectives and
become successful. This also helps students to formulate effective strategic plan considering
their current potential and skills. Academic goals helps students to be more attentive in what they
want to archive and what they aspire to become as in their careers. Parents and teachers are the
key supporters who and guide students to opt the right goal and improve their skills with their
respective experiences (Sclater, Peasgood and Mullan, 2016). Setting up academic goals not just
help student to achieve their goals but it also helps them to develop their personality to be more
effective in attaining their goals. This helps students to understand their strengths and
weaknesses and provides opportunity to improve their skills and knowledge effectively. Setting
goals provide determination to students to achieve their gaols by making effective path and make
them motivate. It increases the positive energy of students to innovate and become more open-
minded accepting new information. Time management provide effective academic distribution to
reduce stress and increase healthy learning of students to achieve their set goals effectively
(Tang, 2018).
Important Short and Long Term Goals for University Students
Short term goals
Short term gaols are set to be achieved in near future which means in some days or some
hours or in a year depending on the length and degree of goals which is to be achieved by a
student. These goals are set which do not need any changes in the behaviour and need to be
achieved with the current abilities (Harris, 2016).

Getting Help with Specific topic- it is very important for a student to understand all the
concepts which can helps to increase their thinking process about the specific topic
effectively.
Spend more time in library this month- spending more time in library helps students to
gain more knowledge and skills to attain their long term gaols and increase their
potential.
Enhance note taking abilities- By developing communication skills it increases the
efficiency of students to understand all the information more clearly with better listening
skills to note down (Saraswathi and Biswas, 2018).
Interact more with teachers to gain better knowledge- Teachers are the better source to
resolve all the issues of students and by interacting with teachers it will also provide them
with effective guidance to develop knowledge and achieve long term academic goals.
Long term goals
Long term goals are those which a student aspire to achieve in thee future by making
some plans and adopting new methods to learn better. Long term gaols are the combination of
many short term gaols which a student made to achieve their long term academic goals as it is
very essential for them to become successful in their career and be more potential.
Passing with good grades in SAT in next term exams- Passing with good score in SAT
will helps student to develop a strong academic profile and also it will help students to
get effective personality according to knowledge and skills effectively.
Get a successful career by acquiring good job within 5 years- Career can only be
achieved by student of the have the effective understanding about all the concepts and
also have effective potential which can only be gained from short term gaols which helps
tom increase personal knowledge and skills.
Achieving scholarship for masters- By developing effective knowledge from short term
goal which helps to develop effective proper routine and improve the efficicny to attempt
scholarship test and exams (Chootongchai and Songkram, 2018).
Methods to Improve Students Memory to Learn New Information
It is very essential for teachers to understand some methods which helps student to
increase memory retention. Due to increase in new information in academic module it is very

difficult for students to learn and remember everything and this deceases efficiency of the
students gradually.
Visual learning
With the help of visual learning student have the tendency to retain the information
longer which increase the efficiency of students to learn new information frequently (Hills,
2018).
Cue Learning
This method helps students to learn new information by making small cues which helps
to remind the full information, like first initials of the words or relating information to students
interest or cartoon character helps students to learn new information faster and more accurately.
Reviewing the notes before sleeping
This method helps students to regain all the information which is taught to them on that
day and by reviewing that information one m,ore time also increases memory of students to
become more active in understand information effectively.
Activity Learning
This method is also very effective in teaching students new information with better
retention power (Suleman, 2018). As it is scientifically proved that students have the tendency to
learn better in practical environment and it increases their potential to retain new information
effectively.
Relating old information
Relation old information with new information also help the students to retain all the
information and improve the memory power of student. This helps to increase the ability of
students to achieve their short term and Long terms gaols effectively and also improve their
knowledge and skills to develop better experience about all the information effectively.
