INTRODUCTION
Reading is an important aspect concerning academic career and prospects. With the
persistence of effective reading skills, an individual would be able to read appropriately and
adequately (Rusdiansyah, 2019). This report will discuss the reading techniques as well as
personal experience along with highlighting the area of improvement in respect to reading
techniques.

Techniques while Studying
The reading technique of identifying new words is beneficial because when the students find
new words it improves their vocabulary, also helps them to mention those words when they are
in the examination hall while writing the paper. While they learn new vocabulary it helps them
when are appearing for a competitive exam where they should know various words and their
meaning so that they complete the exam. Vocabulary also helps when students are supposed to
give viva for their part of exams, also while they are giving a presentation, they can use these
words to impress the listeners. This will help them when they are supposed to communicate with
that person who is very good while speaking English so that they will not feel like they are not
supposed to be there as they are not aware of how to communicate and understand what the other
person is saying (Al-Samarraie, and Hurmuzan, 2018).
Secondly, finding the main idea of a theory is important as it helps to understand that theory
in a better way. This technique makes us remember the theory for a longer period, as it is the
tendency of the students to forget about various theory which is supposed to answer during the
exam. If the student knows everything behind a theory, they can also illustrate it during the
presentation of their projects in front of the teachers who came for the taking the presentation of
the project. The understanding of the theory helps them while they are preparing for the
interview in the college as anything can be asked in an interview, while the student is supposed
to answer that question if he wants to be selected for their dream college (Chang, 2019).
The theory of understanding the concept will be more beneficial when it is combined
withdrawing & sketch. As it is proven that whatever we draw or write the concept is imprinted in
our mind, which will be remembered for a long period and will help when the student is
supposed to appear for an exam which is very crucial for the student. Whenever students study a

diagram or flow chart it is more remembering than the text they read. Draw & sketch is also
known as mind mapping, it helps us to map the concept and relate it with another concept. Mind
mapping also helps students in remembering various concepts at once so that they can attempt
the exam and fulfill their parent’s wishes.
There is a technique of reading with a pencil as it will help students to mark those points
which are important from the exam point of view. This will also highlight those points which can
be studied at the last time of the examination so that they can easily know what are the important
concepts which have a chance of getting asked in the examination.
Personal experience
My reading habit mostly includes the practice of finding new words and I read with the help
of a pencil. In the same way, I also have a habit according to which I read again and again. In the
same way, when I usually make reading, I perform drawing and sketching so that I can recite it
easily whenever I can read it again. As I have an interest in knowing new words and making an
exploration on this which will lead to assist me in reading more material. When I read the
concept which is new to me, I usually get into depth which will lead to a rise in my
understanding but at the same time, it also leads to an increase in the proportion of time too. I
also have a habit of visualization while reading that during the reading I usually make a
visualization that what is happening and what will be meaning.
The reading habit which I need to improve is questioning and skimming reading. This is
because with the habit of questioning I would be able to question myself as well as my tutor too.
This will help me to raise my understanding of the concept. In the same way with the practice of
developing the habit of skimming reading, I would be able to make reading long books and
articles easily without escaping the main meaning. With the development of the concerned
reading technique, I would be able to raise my perfection in reading along with raising my level
of understanding in respect to the reading material. As I have a habit of visualization which I
need to improve because with the technique of visualization I get confused and miss the main
meaning of the data which will lead to having an impact on my reading that I need to improve. I
also need to improve my vocabulary skill so that my reading will be fruitful and effective. With
the improvement of vocabulary, I will be able to conceptualize my reading. I also need to
develop and improve my habit of reading with the use of the creation of a preliminary outline so
that I would be able to read the long books with the help of the creation of an outline and subtitle

so that it would make the reading easy and interesting for me. In the same way, I also need to
improve the scanning reading technique so that I can scan the lesson and learn the concept along
with raising understanding.
CONCLUSION
From the above report, it can be concluded that there are various techniques for reading.
These may majorly include the use of pencil while reading, creation of preliminary outline,
identification of new words, and various others. The report also summarizes my personal
experience with the reading along with highlighting improvement.
