academic life. Thus, taking notes is an important part for every student and it assist the
student to concentrate and also help to maintain a permanent record of on reading and
listening. Hence, a well-organized notes makes a writing process much more efficient for a
student. The current essay will help to shed a light upon importance of note taking and
describe the importance of each stage used in an article. Further study describe different
methods of taking notes which a student use to take notes.
Importance of taking notes: It helps to listen carefully and also helps to keep those
notes in mind actively. Further through this it keep the body active and helps to avoid the
feelings of drowsiness and distraction. Moreover, it also help to create a condensed record for
a study so that a well- organized notes from each class session provides a need for study
(Siegel, 2019). Thus, with the help of notes taking, it assist to concentrating and
understanding the information which helps to summarize the ideas and arguments in a text. It
also help to focus on points which is relevant to purpose and also a well-organized notes
makes an effective writing process much more efficient and develop a critical understanding.
In addition to this, it is also analyzed that note taking provides with necessary
evidence to inform and develop an argument which assist in their future. Not only this, note
taking also help to concentrating and understanding the information and then summarize the
ideas in better manner (İpek, 2018). Hence, it can be stated that note taking will help to
increase creativity which will assist in student’s future as well.
Significance of each stage:
Before class: Before a class, student has to read the notes which wrote in previous
session and also sit in front rows that assist to hear the professor in proper manner. Also,
make sure that all the mobile phones are switch off and have all the necessary material which
help to make the notes in effective manner. Crawford (2016) stated that the importance of this
stage shows that students should be prepare properly so that they did not face any challenges
which affect the results in opposite manner. This stage provides insight views to student and
the material which they need to write notes such that pen, textbook, notepads etc. In this
situation, student should analyze which note taking system is better or work better and when

the class started, student should revise the previous notes which was taught earlier because
there is a linkage and this will help to learn and understand the concept more easily.
During class: In middle of the class, there is a need to write the important key terms
and notes which assist to enhance writing notes. Also, during the class, student needs to listen
actively, otherwise they misunderstood the concept and learn wrong things. Further, active
listening during a class will help to clear some doubts within a class (Siegel, 2018). Also,
make sure to use codes and abbreviation during note making because it will help to enhance
the speed of note making and do not consumer lot of time as well. Also, taking notes during a
class will assist to focus and better understand the concept through concentration and this will
increase the listening and understand term in better manner. So, this stage has their own
importance and increase listening skill as well.
After Class: This stage have their own importance such that it will assist to compare
the notes from their classmates and this in turn assist to compare the accuracy of point during
discussion. In this, if a student miss any point then they may easily edit the notes and this in
turn assist to learn the things easily. That is why, graduate students and scholars uses this
strategy in order to make them clear and learn new things. Gravett (2018) supported by
saying that with the help of this stage, students keep review all the notes within 24 hours so
that it will help to make sure that students are learn something and this do not affect their
results in opposite manner. Moreover, student may use their notes to write summaries and
other guide for an active learning and this further assist to improve their overall learning after
the class. Also make sure to keep the notes at secure place so that it will be use during exam
as well.
James, Draffan and Wald (2016) stated that note taking is an essential key features of
academic life and that is why, there are different methods through which students can use to
take notes. In the current situation, student start using online classes and studying lesson via
Zoom, but still they require skills in order to taking notes so that it would not affect their
learning in opposite manner. Such as by using Cornell method, student may easily organize
the notes and this method is effective because main points, details and summary are written in
one single place that helps a student to learn in things in better manner. The pros of using
Cornell method is such that it is well- organized system if done in right manner because it
provide outlining record content and provides relationship with other variables. Also, help to
reduce editing and easy to review the entire notes. On the critically note, this method requires

more thought in class so that notes are organized in accurate manner. The method is not used
when lecture are so fast.
Jansen, Lakens and IJsselsteijn (2017) argued that mapping method is another strategy
which is used for taking notes and it represent the entire data in such a manner which help to
determine the relationship between each key point with main topic. Thus, it is used mainly
when student have to learn about relationship between topics and the biggest advantage of
using this topic is helps to remember and connect relationship between each other. Also assist
to visualize the concepts that help to learn quickly. However, its cons is such that it require
lots of time and if student loss concentration, then it leads to wrong information.
Morehead, Dunlosky and Rawson (2019) reflected that most of the students uses
outlining methods under taking notes in which they uses bullet points which help to organize
the topics and this is mostly used when topic includes a lot of detail. Thus, it is clearly
reflected that with the help of effective note taking methods, it is easy to learn the things and
generate the better results as well. The biggest advantage of using this method is such that it
allow notes to neatly organized as compared to other topic and students are easily turn the
key points into study questions. But, its disadvantage is such that it require lots of time to set
the formula in order to organize the topic and that is why, it is so difficult for the student
especially in Math and Chemistry subjects.
On the other side, it is also evaluated by Siegel (2018) that charting method is another
important method which in turn leads to make notes in more speedy manner such that in this
methods, student uses columns in order to organize information and this is useful to
understand he facts and relationship between topic and also highlight the piece of information
related to each topic. Thus, it is stated that with the help of effective note taking method,
student uses this style as professionally and this assist to determine the key detail in between
each other. The advantage of this method is such that it reduce the amount of writing
unnecessary and useful while comparing the similar topics. The method is used to make an
overview of whole topic during studying. While, on the critically note, normally student do
not prefer to use this method because student find it difficult to determine categories which
require to make chart.
By summing up above study it has been concluded that note taking is a good practice
which every student should use because it helps to generate interpersonal skills that may be
used in their future. Further, study concluded that for every student there is a need to taking

notes before, during and after a class and examine the significance of each stage. Further,
study concluded different methods of notes taking such that mapping method, charting
method and outlining methods which help student to learn and enhance their knowledge as
well.

As per the digitalized age, online tools and techniques plays a crucial role to provide
an opportunities to all students. Such as most of the top Universities provide e-learning
facilities and record the lectures which students may listen as per their comfort. In the same
way, current study main purpose is to analyze the importance of online study and develop
ways through which students may easily draw attention towards lectures. Such that study
provides many ways such that demonstration, taking feedback, visualization and PPT in order
to improve the listening skills among students. While on the other side, to understand the
lectures, teacher should ask question, conduct group discussion to examine the student’s
abilities, use of incomplete handouts so that students draw attention towards a lectures.
INTRODUCTION
In the competitive era, there are many ways through which education sector improve
their study and that is why, Universities start introducing online application and tools in order
to improve the learning and make better environment. Further, the study will help to shed a
light upon the use of online application and analyze the strategies which in turn provide better
opportunities to their students as well. Therefore, the current report will help to evaluate the
strategies which student can easily use to improve their listening abilities so that they
concentrate to the online lectures provided by teacher. Further study also examine how can
teacher help a student to understand the lectures and keep them engage towards a study.
Lastly, it provides a recommendation which in turn help to improve the overall listening
skills among students.
Analysis and Discussion
Evaluating the strategies that student use to improve their listening abilities

Most of the schools and colleges are started using online technologies in order to let
their student understand the things in better way. Among all, students are attend regular class
in Zoom which is an online application that helps to attend live online lectures (Deb, 2020).
Through this, students learn lots of information and that is why, it helps to improve their
communication and listening skills. Thus, to improve the listening abilities among students,
here are some strategies which in turn assist to focus upon their aim.
Students must focus upon 3A’s that assist to improve the listening skills, these are
attitude, attention and adjustment which plays a crucial role in listening skills. Like to listen
well, student have to approach the situation with an open mind because it is important to
realize what teacher speaks in order to understand the words easily (Bukoye and Shegunshi,
2016). On the other side, some of them have a short attention because they tend to day dream
which makes them difficult to focus and hear. Thus, there is a need to apply all 3A’s in order
to improve the listening skill and even with a help of early meditation, students improve the
ability to focus and pay attention as well (Ways through which engage the students in
lectures, 2018).
Feedback is another strategy that helps the student to improve their listening skills. As
during online application like Zoom, it is not easy for teachers to focus upon student’s action
and that is why, taking feedback help to judge the student’s attention and reflect their attitude
(Morris, Swinnerton and Coop, 2019). Like, by taking online test and ask with parents will
assist to make sure that they understood the things in better manner.
During lectures, teacher should use infographic, pictures that attract students towards
lectures and helps to listen the things properly. It is so because a continuous lectures (orally)
bored students while showing creativity during online application will assist to improve the
listening skills and understand the term easily (San Martín Davison, 2018). Under this,
teacher may also show power point presentation in which short and brief notes are used that
assist students to understand terms easily and try to make flowchart in order to develop a
relationship between sub-topics.
Bennett (2018) stated that with the help of active listening students gain an
opportunity to use their lecture information and also obtain feedback and even teacher also
plays an important role and help students to understand their lectures. Thus, every teacher
develop strategy to understand the things in better manner. Such that use question is the most
common trick that help the student to memorize the information and engage with teacher in

critical way. Like, after completion of single chapter, teacher should ask question which in
turn leads to memorize the data. On the other side, incomplete handout is another way that
assist teacher to make learning creative. Such that many teacher provide power point
presentation in advance of lectures which do not include everything presented in a lecture but
a short brief summary of each topic covered during a class (Primandana, 2020). During this
presentation, some handouts are incomplete which students needs to complete by attending
classes and this in turn show their attention during each lectures and teacher keep engage
students as well.
Meguid and Collins (2017) reflected that with the help of demonstration and example,
teacher also engage the students. Such as by providing real life example and problem are
valuable ways to demonstrate the application of abstract as well as concept within practice.
Through this, teacher come to know the experience of students during lectures and try to
improve the same in their future. On the other hand, with the help of visualization technique
most of the students are also engage towards a lecture because it is mostly used by many
colleges and during online class, teacher prefer to show real life example in order to
understand the concept in better manner (Wah, 2019). In this, teacher may ask a question
from student in order to test their learning and this in turn also leads to examine the actual
performance of the student and then makes extra efforts for the same.
How students understand their lecture with Recommendations
From the discussion it is analyzed that there online techniques are plays an important
role in the education line such that most of the colleges and schools start providing e-learning
to their students with a specific timelines. In the same way, Zoom is one of the fast
developing online application that provide an opportunity to students in order to attend
lectures online. There are some suggested ways that assist the teacher to provide meaningful
learning to their students, such as:
Teacher should try to provide visual and infographic material to their students because
through diagram, students are able to understand the things in better manner rather than
listening oral lectures. That is why, it is suggested by Brown (2020) present the data or
information visually in order to engage students during whole lectures. Providing notes and
paraphrasing is another strategy that is suggested to their students in order to let students
understand the things in better manner. Providing notes during class will help to briefly

understand the term and may use diagram in order to generate the relationship between
variables.
In addition to this, it is also suggested that once the chapter is finished, teacher should
conduct a group discussion activity in which a team presented their views while other team
opposed them and then conclude a results (Nsibande, 2020). This in turn helps the teacher to
understand the ability of each students and also examine the weakness which in turn help to
improve the same. Moreover, in order to improve the listening skills, students should start
taking notes of teacher notes and this in turn leads to raise writing skills as well. Whenever
teacher ask the question, students should respond quickly and this is possible when student
listen the notes and attend every lectures and makes notes as well. As technology plays an
important role in the education system because it guide students and if teacher start
conducting online listening activities which also assist them to improve the skills and focus
upon their subjects as well. Thus, it is analyzed that with the help of video, and visualization,
PPT and diagram, teacher encourage the student to took participate in online lectures and take
their interest in order to understand the things in better manner.
CONCLUSION
By summing up above report it has been concluded that online and advance
techniques makes an education system better as compared to traditional ones because
majority of the students enjoy online lecture by installing online application such as Zoom.
This is clearly concluded from the above report that with the help of taking feedback and
provide visual and infographic things, teacher draw attention of all the students towards a
class so that it will assist to improve their listening skills. This skill is consider important
because it makes student understand about the term and makes their study enjoyable as well.
Further report also concluded that teacher uses variety of option in order to keep them engage
and also understand the lectures in better way, for that different strategy are used like
incomplete handouts, ask questions and demonstration that assist to encourage student to
attend lecture properly.
