INTRODUCTION
Higher study helps in enhancing skill and knowledge of individual that can be used in
career to perform specific task or learn new skills. Continuous reviewing study skill will boost
individual confidence as it increases knowledge and skill of individual to perform function. This
report explains about importance of goals setting for an individual for career growth. It also
describes about short term and long term goals for universities students. At last this report
evaluate and identify various method that students can use to enhance their capacity to remember
new things.
Importance of goals setting
Goal is planning for thing that a person want to achieve in future period by performing
specific task. Therefore, goals setting is important for individual as it promotes growth and
development of by identifying things that a person wants to achieve in life (Assiter, 2017). Goals
or dream are like oxygen, and they are the first step towards of our journey as they make us
understand where to go and what to achieve in life. Without goals people will not try to develop
its skill and knowledge and attempt to achieve success. Importance of goals setting is as follows:
It gives Focus: Goals encourage focus and dedication of individual as it will make more effort to
attain or achieve predetermined goals. An individual cannot achieve anything in life without
specific goals as it motivate person to stay positive , focused and make continuous efforts to
achieve them. Thus, it can be stated that goals will helps in enhancing student focus to get better
grade in the future.
It helps in measurement of individual performance: Person can measure its performance
effectively by setting a benchmark or goals that need to be achieved within specific time frame.
Academic student can review its performance by evaluating it various result of semesters thus
analysing their performance and evaluate areas where they lack (Thompson, 2017). Thus, by
improving areas in which they lack can enhance their skill and knowledge for future growth.
It motivates students: Student stay motivated and committed to their setting goals if supported
by parents and teachers. Goals motivated them to work hard for better grade in exam and to
devote extra time to meet their set goals. Thus, they gain better understanding and knowledge
about subject which helps in development of individual.

Short term and long term goals for university student
Short term goals are those that can be achieved within limited time period or want to
compete it soon such as 3-4 months whereas long term goal are achieved after several years such
4-5 and take an entire semester (Gormley and et.al., 2018). Various short term goals for
university student are as follows:
Getting better grade on next project: Student may set goals to get better grades or marks in
next project by studying continuously and working hard.
Creating consistence study schedule: Some students plans to develop new schedules for
studying because exam are near to come thus enhances their analytical skill so that they can
analysis areas in which they need improvement.
Skill development: To develop skill of time management is short term goal of students so that
they can achieve long term goals effectively. Enhance IT skill so that they can perform various
function in future.
Long term goals: It takes long time to achieve such goals as it included several small goals such
as an academic student hope to get aggregate 80% in its graduation degree.
Achieving a specific grade: Student may plan to achieve certain percentage after completion of
graduation. To get specific grade Student must develop time management skill and goals set
skills as it will help in achievement of specific grades in exam.
Passing a course: Many students goals is to pass graduate and get a degree on time for social
status thus for it student must have ability to set goals.
High SAT goals: This goal is achieved by student by using high quality study material and
joining classes to get high score in the semesters.
Method to improve retention of information among students
Students learn a lot of information at university and have lot of regular exam to enhance
knowledge and skills of employees. Students use knowledge and skill for future growth in career
and personal life (Drew and Bingham, 2017). Due to large amount of information gained while
studying in university employees are not able to retain them. Thus, various methods that can be
used to retain such knowledge and skills are as follows:
Set goals: Students by setting goals can improve their skill and knowledge as goals motivate
individual to work continuously for achievement of desire result. It also helps in continuous
evaluation of performance by evaluating various result of exams. Thus, it can be state that set

goals motivate students to continuous study and revise their subjects which helps in retention of
new informations in minds of students.
Notes: Students can also make notes and write crucial point to remember what they have learned
while studying in university. They are short and simple notes remind students about various
informations thus improves retention of students(Cottrell, 2019). As student write notes
themselves they know what they have learned while studying thus enhance knowledge of student
for longer period. Creative and innovative notes also helps in retention of information for long
prepared in students minds.
Develop new skill and knowledge: Students by developing new skill and knowledge such as
communication skill or Analytical skill can analysis that how much it can learn and retain. By
analysing it gets to know the areas in which it needs to improve for future growth and success in
the career.
CONCLUSION
From the above report it can be concluded that goals setting is important for development
in future growth in both personal and profession life. Goal helps student to stay motivated and
work hard for effective performance and achievement of desired result. It can also be explained
from above report that various skill such as communication, analytical , IT and goals setting skill
are need to achieved for future growth.
