INTRODUCTION
For each and every organisation, it is important to develop a successful business team as this
foster constructive relation among group members. Moreover, developing a successful team may
be difficult as well as challenging because this brings together a various values, opinions up
brings, team experiences and many other. Furthermore, this is essential for entity to understand
the intent of team. In simple terms, teams are inter-reliant groups of staff who come together
around a specific work, project or goals (Bauman and Lucy, 2019). Additionally, the groups
might be brought collectively for bridging a gap among departments or short term or long term
projects in order to attain pre-determined objectives. This report is based on Tanfeeth is
considered as Gulf Cooperation Council’s (GCC) first large scale shared services firm that is
situated in Dubai, U.A.E. It is the subsidiary of Emirates NBD. The topics which are going to be
discussed in this report are characteristics of successful business team, Importance of team roles
played and explanation of Belbin model and Tuckman's team development model. Moreover,
stages of team development, Plan how to motivate team members to achieve given objectives,
Application of motivational theory for team and open communication between team members
and ways of resolving conflict between team members are described. Apart from this, evaluate to
monitor and improve the performance of team against the given objectives and some
recommendations regarding team development are also discussed in this report.

Introduce your chosen organization.
(Haas & Mortensen, 2016) In their review of what the Secrets of Great Teamwork is, point
out that teams today are quite different from the past, they are much more diverse, digital,
displaced and dynamic, but their success still lies in their ability to effectively collaborate
together as a core fundamental principle. Therefore, leaders and managers must be able to
understand what are the key factors that impact the successes of the team and vary from time to
time.
In our study we will be focusing on Tanfeeth which is a fully owned subsidiary of
Emirates NBD and was established in 2011 with the main aim of being the group’s shared
services entity. Tanfeeth in Arabic simply means “getting the job done”, and true to their word,
they have managed to fully support the group’s mission and vision thorough its dedicated team

of experts and leaders. Tanfeeth handles all back-office processes for Emirates NBD Group that
include strategy and transformation, Emirates NBD contact center operations, Emirates Islamic
contact center operations, collections, compliance operations, finance and accounting,
international payments, retail credit operations, wholesale banking operations, central operations
and service, human resource services, logical security, and procurement operations. Tanfeeth’s
end goal is to continue to raise the benchmark for customer service across the region and deliver
exceptional customer experience through partnership, passion & people(Emirates NBD Bank
PJSC, 2020).
Characteristics of a successful business team in your chosen organization.
Success at work highly depends on the ability of the team to work together in unison and
the ability of a manager to build a successful team. When people work together, they are able to
accomplish what individuals can’t on they own, this ability is known as synergy.
(Sturt & Nordstrom, 2015) have attributed five characteristics of successful teams whether in
large teams or small teams as shown below; These characteristics are aligned to Tanfeeth and
specifically to the strategy team where I have had the pleasure of working in for the past 1 year
now.
Clear vision and mission: The strategy team at Tanfeeth have a mantra “knowing what
matters and applying it now” which is aligned to Tanfeeth goal of ensuring that we are
continuously raising the benchmark for customer service across the region. The team is
focused on individual output but they are all aligned to one common goal. They are also
motivated by the Group’s mission and strive to meet those objectives. Each team member
knows and values their individual contribution and know they personal effort build the
bigger picture.
Inspiring and motivated leader; The head of the strategy and transformation team is a
leader who clear understands the vision and articulates them very well. A successful team
must have a leader who is humble and open to criticism and feedback. They support and
encourage team morale, individual development and are not afraid to delegate
A Well-Coordinated and Cooperative team: Teams that are formed from a sense of
togetherness are more likely to succeed than teams that are not. The TBI Team at Tanfeeth
embodies the principles of togetherness in how they interact and do business. Its one of the
most coveted teams in the Group and peoplefrom other teams are always eager to join.

Because form an early stage when you join the team its clear that the team is supportive and
teams know how to leverage each other strengths, largely because the team understands that
with the diversity in knowledge and culture the team is stronger together.
Constructive criticism and Communication: Teams that are open to feedback are likely
are tend to be more successful. Open communication and constructive feedback show that
individuals in the team respect and value each member opinions and shows that their
willingness to incorporate diverse viewpoints and hence become more productive and
efficient.
Reward and recognition – Appreciation: Teams that recognize each other’s great work
tend to be more cohesive and stick together for longer. When people realize that thy efforts
are valued, they tend to have a sense of belonging and empowers them to do even grater
things. This is evident in TBI where regularly the team cheer on each other for great efforts
made by individuals during daily huddles or in the TBI monthly meetings.
The transformation team is responsible for the day to day running to all projects in the
Group form a business stand point. During the Corvid pandemic the team was tasked with
project continuity even during the work from home situation. The team worked tirelessly to
ensure all projects were running smoothly and that there was minimal delays and disruptions to
the over 100 projects in the group. With the support of the team the group was able to continue
delivering all their projects within the same schedules and time buffers.
Importance of team roles played in the successful business team.
Teams are essential as it may attain instead of any of members that could accomplish
individually. The group which perform effectually as well as efficaciously brings together, a
diverse range of competencies, characters and others are accountable to realise huge or complex
projects (Carter and et. al., 2019). Moreover business team involves several individuals with
various competencies as well as expertise who work together for common intent. So, some teams
of Tanfeeth are:
Self managed team: The kind of team role played by individuals is much empowered as it

identification of deviations, There must be setting of right targets that are attainable by team
according to their capabilities and There has to be alignment of between vision and team

How to improve the performance of team against the given objectives
In organisation, it is important to measure and pay attention to performance of team so
that objectives are achieved. There are many ways through which performance is measured such
as analysis of strength and weakness of every individual in team, continuous meetings,
understanding subordinates viewpoint and their way of perception. Moreover, performance can
be improved by use of reward system in which perks, incentives, are to be given by team
manager. It is crucial to aware about team performance so that allocation of task is done
accordingly. Then further, performance can be improved by accessing traditional performance
and then comparing them with new progress. Also, meetings are to be conducted at continuous
level so that ongoing progress is measured which is beneficial for achieving objectives within a
given period of time.
Furthermore, manager need to convert themselves into coach so that motivation can be
put and morale of team members get increases for longer period of time. Another way is that
regular checks of feedback regarding team so that suggestions or weak areas are identified for
which improvement can be measured. Through this, it gives an idea to team manager that what
changes are required to be made for accomplishing goals. By properly managing communication,
performance is increased because when information or message is transferred between team it
enhances that effectiveness of team to understand each other which also have positive impact on

performance. Commitment is also another way of improving performance as if team members
are committed to their work then it is easy to get the work done on time period. Through this, it
is possible to achieve objectives in a specific period of time. Building a strong commitment
towards work leads to higher progress. Thus, it is necessary to enhance performance of team in
most effective manner.

For instance, I will link KPI's with quarterly appraisal. Another example could be, team lunch
after completion of every project.
Performance of team is an essential factor for the companies as it leads to handle
different issues within team members. Incentives is the great way of motivating the employees.
Whenever the organisation feels that the performance of employees are not improving and rather
they are not giving efforts, the organisation always feels that giving them monetary benefits will
make the employees increase their contribution. Employees reduce their productivity after 50%
of their targets. Tanfeeth is an employee centric organisation which provides a performance
based incentive system where focus is given to the quality and quantity of the work by the
employees. They feel motivated and always make their work in line with the targets. They
understand that the individual goal of the people in an organisation is to earn and Tanfeeth
focuses on them to make organisational goal achieved. It is recommended for Tanfeeth that it
should adopt following ways for managing team performance -
Establishing a system of measurement – There is need for measuring team performance
as it helps in improving performance of team. Tanfeeth must develop objectives and key results
(OKR's) across the team for effective functioning. This is a strategy which is helpful in planning
out the work and achieving forecast. OKRs must be created for both teams and individual level.
This can be used within Tanfeeth for increasing the overall performance of team members. There
is need to evaluate and analyze the needs and demands of different team members in order to
promote effectiveness within team work.
Engaging in team building games – The motto for an effective team is - “Work hard,
party harder”. The main characteristic of high performing team is to manage accomplishment of
goals and have fun after work. There must be regular breaks from work which are to be
provided for team members. This helps in managing productivity required for conducting

business activities. There is need to have engaged employees within team so that they can work
collaboratively and meet organizational goals.
Training and development -Companies provide training and development to the employees
which will make them effective and increase their efforts towards the organisation. The classes
are conducted by organisations to develop the skills which are required to perform their work.

Based on the above report this has been concluded that developing a successful team may be
difficult as well as challenging because this brings together a various values, opinions up brings,
team experiences and many other. Moreover, two team development models are used such as
Belbin and Tuckman as this is helpful in developing a successful business team in effective and
efficient way.
