Summary
The article “Paulo Freire and ICTs: Liberatory Education Theory in the digital age”
intends to shed light on the manner in which the use of recent innovative technologies like
internet, computers and others have impacted the process of education and learning. More
importantly, in the particular light of Paulo Freire’s “Pedagogy of the Oppressed” states that
because of the extensive usage of these technologies the contemporary education focuses
merely on content rather on the processes. The net result of this is that the contemporary
students often mistake information for knowledge and mere fragments of information for the
ultimate learning or true praxis. The strength of the article is the fact that the authors in the
article rather than merely stating the positive and the negative aspects of the use of ICTs and
other kinds of technologies for the purpose of imparting education seek to evaluate the
manner in which it had affected the actual learning process of the students. More importantly,
the stress is on the actual learning process as well as acquisition of knowledge which is likely
to help the students throughout their lives rather than on the mere collection of fragmented
pieces of knowledge which had come to substitute actual learning in the present times.
