AI Summary
The research focuses on the successful integration of an upgraded version of the Sunquest Laboratory Information System (LIS) across four hospitals and twenty-five primary care centers in Dubai. This implementation aims to enhance data management capabilities and improve patient blood management through a data-driven approach, as highlighted by Cohn et al., 2014. The assignment examines the prerequisites for such upgrades, emphasizing the necessity of staff awareness and readiness as crucial factors for successful deployment (Procop et al., 2014). Furthermore, it explores how change management theories apply to this technological transition within a public healthcare setting, referencing Cruickshank & Collins, 2012's insights on transformational leadership in bureaucratic structures. The study also considers the potential need for additional training or recruitment to support the advanced functionalities of the new system version. Through comprehensive analysis and surveys (Weaver et al., 2014), this assignment assesses whether the upgraded Sunquest LIS effectively addresses existing healthcare sector challenges, ultimately contributing to higher operational standards in Dubai's medical facilities.

3LABORATORY INFORMATION SYSTEM
Introduction-
Rationale of the study-
Sunquest’s laboratory information system (LIS) provides solutions to a large storage
requirement of different kinds of data, which are necessary to enhance the business as well as the
competitive capabilities. Such advantages serve the purpose of different organizations across the
globe to become a leading solution provider for different medical requirements such as storing
the data of different health related tests. Sunquest’s LIS system is the leading solution provider in
the market (French and Terrazas 2013). The main purpose of this research is to analyze the
various advantages, which the latest version of Sunquest has. Additionally, the implementation
of the latest version of Sunquest is already in plan across the different health laboratories in
Dubai. This research is aimed at understanding the advantages of the latest version, which is to
be installed. Additionally, this also educates on how to provide the necessary training on the
implemented technologies. Moreover, this also educates on the required personnel who will be
needed while implementing the latest version of Sunquest across the laboratories in Dubai.
Research problem-
The identified problem of the research is to effectively bring the change management in
the different health centers and the laboratories across the Dubai. It is necessary to identify all
the challenges that could create problems in implanting the latest version of Sunquest LIS in the
different health centers in Dubai. It is expected that there could be problems related to the
required training, which will train the personnel on how to avail the benefits of the system.
Additionally, it is also necessary to understand that who all will be the responsible personnel in
bringing the planned change management in such a big network (Morgan 2013).
Potential values-
The project is very valuable because it carries much more addition with it than what has
been offered through the 7.0 version of Sunquest LIS.
Significance-

The implementation is significant because the upgraded version will offer additional
benefits such as a reduced test turnaround time.
Aims & objectives of the research-
Aims-
The research is aimed at identifying the related advantages of the latest version of
Sunquest LIS and identifying the entire process of change management, which will be required
while implementing the system in laboratories across the Dubai.
Objectives of the research-
1. To determine the patient results accuracy with zero error of wrong patient identification
and losing patient samples.
2. To handle and control well training and implantations of the upgrade of Sunquest
Laboratory Information system version 7.1 all over different 4 hospitals and more than 25
Primary Health Centers.
3. To establish core team from laboratory staff who have experience in similar changes
projects and have enough knowledge about laboratory information.
Literature review-
According to Procop et al. (2014), unnecessary laboratory test can be reduced by using clinical
tools in laboratories. The authors have cited the benefits of computerized physician order entry
(CPOE). This was also highlighted as a major contribution of Obama administration to
encourage the use of electronic medical records. It was identified that there should not be
unnecessary test in laboratories adding to the already constrained health care system. In the
opinion of Cohn et al. (2014), Patient Blood Management (PBM) is one of the challenges that
have drawn intense interest from both the health care sector and the respective local government.
However, according to the authors such criticality can be effectively managed by using a
systematic database containing various laboratory activities including the blood management
system. These resources can help to understand the importance of database management using a

robust technology. Nevertheless, Sunquest LIS technology provides one of such platforms using
which the medical standard of Dubai can be taken to another level.
The implantation of technology across the four different hospitals and 25 primary health care
centers in Dubai requires a proper handling of it with an effective training program. According to
Weaver, Dy and Rosen (2014), training can produce a positive impact on the healthcare
standard of a hospital or a primary care center. They have supported the importance of training
by highlighting the benefits that training provides to quality care. According to the authors,
training develops utmost skills needed to bring in quality service in the healthcare sector. This is
indeed necessary because the sector is already believed to have several constraints. Salas and
Rosen (2013) have supported the importance of training by highlighting a fact that training has
been much in demand in recent times in the healthcare sector. As opined by the authors,
contemporary healthcare sectors have sensed the way to improve the safety level of patients in
the healthcare sector across the globe. Training according to the authors prepares a robust
platform where patients will be cared with effective approaches.
Like training, change management has also been widely acknowledged as a necessity for being
competitive in the respective industry. Change management is believed to happen when there is a
need to bring some necessary changes in the administration. According to Cruickshank and
Collins (2012), change management is a conceptualized activity of reviewing the change process
with the help of personnel who are all part of the change management team. The implantation of
Sunquest LIS 7.1 version will probably need those who have already been a part of 7.0 versions.
Moreover, this will also need the assistance of experts who have already worked with the 7.1
version of Sunquest LIS. As opined by Van der Voet (2014), there is a need to have important
change management approaches along with effective leadership quality that supervises to
perfection the change process to guide an effective implantation of the proposed Sunquest LIS
system. A change management process does indeed require the supervision of those who are
experienced with the technology.
Methodology-
Research Philosophy-
Document Page
6LABORATORY INFORMATION SYSTEM
The researcher has selected Positivism as the research philosophy to understand the
research topic appropriately. Positivism encourages a scientific approach towards answering the
research questions. Scientific approaches include various processes such as a structured
interview or a survey (Hair 2015). This approach will help in understand the available headcount
for the change process. This will help to understand the level of supports that are available in the
Pathology & Genetics Department of the target 4 hospitals and the primary care centers.
Research Approach-
For this research, the researcher has selected the deductive approach. A deductive
approach is based on established data; hence, no new theories will be required to produce to
understand the research topic (Zikmund et al. 2013).
Research Design-
The researcher has selected the descriptive method for research design. This is because a
descriptive approach relates the research objectives with the findings obtained (Flick 2015). This
will also avoid any deviation from the research objective. It is indeed necessary to be in line with
the research objectives. This approach will encourage a dedicated commitment towards the set
research objectives and hence will help to find some useful findings.
Data Collection Process-
The researcher has selected the primary resources for collecting the data. Survey has been
selected as the primary resource to find out the existing capabilities of the staffs selected for the
survey. This will be helpful as the respondents will generate useful data by giving answers to the
questions designed for the survey process. Additionally, the survey will help in collecting the
quantitative data (Bishop and Verleger 2013). This will make things easier to analyze the
awareness level of staffs with the existing version 7.0 of Sunquest LIS.
Sampling Method-
This is a very crucial selection as the research will be based on primary resources.
Henceforth, the selection of respondents will require a careful analysis. Appropriate respondents
will be required to conduct the survey with them. The researcher has selected the non-probability

method of sampling. This is also known as convenient sampling. This is generally used to reduce
any unexpected deviation from the research objectives (Bernard 2017). Non-probability method
of sampling allows selecting the respondents on a random basis. This helps to get multiple views,
which is important to correlate with the research objectives.
Potential implications-
The research will put forward few important findings, which will encourage future research work
on the same topic. One of the findings will be the awareness of staffs with the Sunquest LIS
system. This is so because an implantation of the upgraded version is successful only when it has
adequate support of the staffs. If this is not the scenario then there will be the need to recruit
fresh professionals for supporting the every new project (Reiser and Dempsey 2012). The
upgraded version of Sunquest LIS definitely requires adequate and qualified professionals to
justify its selection for the healthcare sector in Dubai. The target 4 hospitals and 25 primary care
centers in Dubai will need adequate number of professionals who understand it properly and can
help the healthcare sector to reach to another level. This will also be required to check whether
the implemented tool reduces the much needed flaws in the healthcare sector or there is a need of
another advanced version of the Sunquest LIS.
