SUPPORTING SIGNIFICANT LIFE CHANGING EVENTS
Task 1
1.1 Affect of remarkable life incidents on Rita and Sue
Life changes in a sudden manner but it has either negative or positive influence over the lifestyle
of a person. One can remarkably be affected by such incidents. These kinds of incidents can be
any types, which then exert notable affect over the life of an individual and on others also who
surround them. Effects can predominantly split into three categories: physical, psychological and
social (Weyrauch, et al. 2001). Sometimes peoples get mentally depressed of their condition.
The same fact was happened to Rita and Sue where they have to face a critical time through their
lifeline. That changes not only theirs thinking but it has also changed their life.
For the past 7 years, Rita lived in a small old age house with Sue. It is a long time for Rita to be a
friend with Sue with approx of 40 years. Carers who work in shifts staffed that sheltered housing
project. Rita and Sue made a friendship with other eight residents that live there, and there they
have no relatives and no one come to visit to her. However, they two are very happy at that place
and it became very likely to them. At that critical age, they have to face many physical and
mental problems so they have subsisted staying alone at home. That is the time when they need
someone for support, someone who will stand beside them but they have to spend that time alone
(Singh, et al. 2011). However, the residents do everything as needed and they had arranged many
types of outdoor activities to engage those old peoples. There, they all took care of those old
peoples when no one could. In order, Rita also had breast cancer and she knows that she could
die soon at that time while she is facing trough mental depression as a cancer patient. Therefore,
at that time, she need support the most and the carer does so (Sharma and Rush, 2014). The
health workers give respect to their wishes, and they did not forced Rita when she refused of her
cancer treatment.
1.2 Probable group response to individual life incidents:
To face tough stages of an individual life, it is important to get support from others. Those others
may be their friends or might be residents. These peoples carry an indispensable role by helping
the individual to live through such life incidents with serenity and comfort. It works like an aid to

facing bad situations (Przeworski, Cain and Dunbeck, 2014). They are scared to stay alone while
the family members did not gave a single attention to them due to their bad health in age. They
do not want to face that type of problem, and so tries to avoid them. Like the same, Rita and Sue
are two victims who are facing through a critical time of their life (Pruessner, et al. 2011). At that
time, everyone left them alone. This was the time when these old people needed a huge support.
So they were sent to the old age homes. In old age home, the carer took care of them properly
and they helped them to spend a happy life. They were also being support them desirably and

They had arranged many outdoor activities like gardening, work in gardens, many types of
games to play together, and in a sunny day, they get them for walking in park or garden so that
they can stay fit. Rita and her friend Sue became very much familiar to the resident of that old

Rita and Sue likes the atmosphere of the old age house and they like that place very much
because they found many people that take care of them. Besides, those people’s support makes

1.3 The effects on others in social care and health
For them, the professionals are imperative that they provide useful services towards them. The
workers must give much importance to such factors that help the individual in every way they
can. In an organisation, the other members find a way by which they can help an individual, as
they required (Lunsky and Elserafi, 2011). The critical factor is to know an individual perfectly.
Only if one can understand another person correctly, he or she will be capable of helping the
individual that is going through significant life incidents.
Rita and her friend Sue are going through that type of time, but there were the residents who
became very familiar with them, and the carer took care of them. Carer respects their wish, and
they are enough to understand old Rita and Sue. That is why Rita and Sue get excellent support

friendly with the residents, and they made many friends.
They do not like to stay alone because everyone left them for various ailments that come with
old age. They want to chat with the residents, as it helps them to keep free their mind from any
mental depression. They took care of the communal garden. In a sunny weather, they go for a
walk in park or garden to stay fit. They provided with the all necessary things (Lin, Dean and

Sandra also needs that type of support at that time. She lost her husband in a sudden time and she
love him very much so after losing him, her mental condition became very bad and all the time,
she lived in a mental depression (Frost, Lehavot and Meyer, 2015). It strikes her head every time
that loneliness is strongly affected on her life. She has brooked internally all the time she think

2.2 Explain the social networks might provide support to Sandra
The help from the social network is very helpful for a mentally depressed person. In social
network, a friend can be very helpful when the individual is in a problem. Those types of help
became very useful when the individual is in very negative conduct (Erdogan, et al. 2012). This
advises help to get a good mental support for an individual. He or she can overcome easily the
problem and can deal with the problem easily. A certain type of life events happens in people’s
life, and some of them are very much shocking like passing away of someone beloved. It breaks
that person internally, makes him alone, and even makes depressed (Diener, Inglehart and Tay,
2013). At that time, they live in a condition, which we call grief, and at that position, the person
becomes very much depressed and suffers from mental tension, and feels helpless.
Sandra needed that type of support at that time. She lost her most beloved husband. He has
passed away in such an unexpected and tragic manner that had surprised her up in a very bad
way, and now she is mentally depressed. All the time, she sits in a corner and feels herself in a
dark. She cannot even sleep properly. She had no attention on her two children and she is broken

Sandra and Mike’s families help her as they could, but at end of the day, she found herself alone
on an empty bed. Her relatives gave her the full support that she needed the most and that was
not enough but at that time, much support is very important to her. She thinks of her friends that
might feel sick of hearing of her despair. She found her sister’s supportive adviser. At her advice,
she became ready to make an appointment with a counsellor. Support of others makes her strong
and helps her to overcome these circumstances. That is how she can come back into her new life
and spend life normally. Even, it can help her to move on from that past and make her aware
about the present and about what was happening. That is how the counsellor makes her aware
about her children and helps her to overcome that socking past (Bless and Fiedler, 2014). Thus,
Rebecca was finally able to take back her into a normal life.
2.3 Evaluate the suitable external support to Sandra:
From this question, external source was needed for the person who was mentally broken. It is
very much supporting for those individuals who are suffering from negative stages of their life.
This condition is called as a “grief”. It is a suffering that one feels when someone or an
individual love is taken away. That patient need an immediate counselling that is how she or he
can easily overcame their problem and make their mind free from depressions (Barlow, Allen
and Choate, 2016). The counsellors talk to the patient and give him or her good mental support,
and that is how he or she can easily wipe out their reason of getting depressed.
Sandra had lost her beloved husband and she is in extreme grief. At that time she need some
support externally to overcome her mental weakness. Her family members, friends and grief
counsellor Rebecca helped her to keep away from that trouble. Besides, her husband’s family
member helped her but they were not enough to fill the gap. The absence of Mike hurts her the
most. However, her sister advised made her to make an appointment with the grief counsellor.
The medical counsellor heard her condition and gave him mental support to overcome her
depression and start a normal life (Cowan and Hetherington, 2013). Slowly, she came back to her
normal life she is finally able to clear Mike’s clothes from the house and give those to her
brother. At a time, those clothes act as a souvenir to her, but she knows she can keep away from

children, fears about economic insecurity, and fears about isolation. Rebecca listens to her with

Task 3
3.1 Analysis of Organizational Responses needed to support concerned individual
In different organisations, it is seen that where a particular person is facing a considerable life
incident, it needs to be more aware of following the individuals in any situation (Jackson,
Mitchell and Hopkins, 2015). Since an individual has the propensity of losing the usual balance
in their life, thus it is mandatory for the people around him to come to support him or her in the
way that is necessary by her or him. Hence, this will aid the personality in getting back to his
regular life.
When someone is in a bad condition, she knows that she will die soon but also aggressive
treatment that might prolong his/her life. That type of condition strongly effects on their mental
condition, as they are depressed of that situation and becomes very much tensed. That patient
needs a mental support so the advance directives can help their families with doctors or health
care providers. They support that patient mentally, and that is why the patient can make proper
decision (Lin, Dean and Ensel, 2013). Besides, the care is all about to focus on the patient to
make that individual feel comfortable. That is how they can easily overcome these negative
conditions.
They help patient to avoid confusion about their decision. That is why they get relief from their
problem of decision-making. Some chooses to die at home even or others may enter in a hospital.
That is how the organisation helps the patients and their families to deal with that type of issue
and help that patient to make better decisions.
3.2 Reflection over personal contribution
I have always tried to stand beside those who are in any suffering from any kind of remarkable
life incidents. If anyone is in that type of mental condition and much depressed about decision-

incident, it needs to be more aware of following the individuals in any situation (Jackson,
Mitchell and Hopkins, 2015).
If anyone is in that type of mental condition and much depressed about decision-

making, I will give him mental support that is how he or she can make that decision easily.
However, help him/she to define the right way is to make the decision for their problem. I have
to make a better understanding between that person and me as well. To make him strong, I need
to respect her wishes and have to listen to her without making any argument. Moreover, that time
when a patient knows that without a medical treatment, soon he or she will die but an aggressive
medical treatment might prolong life.
I must have to understand their wish properly and support there hope, and that is how I can help
that person as better as possible. I must have to give respect to their wishes as well. Besides, I
need to concern with about their problem and I have to explain him the wrong and right decision
to make it easier. Therefore, the patient can express their wishes easily to their families and even
to the doctors. In that condition, that person is needed more support from their families and close
friend. That is how they can feel good and can overcome their mental depression and take the
decision more easily and faster.
3.3 Recommendations to improve health and social care of an individual:
A sense of humanity is required more than any scientific training or other similar studies. This
will help to serve and help in a better way to other people as well. This will also help us to give
them aid and support that is required. However, they must need some type of training to apply it
professionally, and the way in which many different situations are to be dealt with. That type of
training makes the professionals experts (Erdogan, et al. 2012). If they lend their awareness to
the social worker and the health care association, then it would be more effectively work on them
who are facing some depression in their life with remarkable life incidents.
The process of the training program must be practically done where the workers can execute
them easily in practical field rather than just bounding their knowledge in the theoretical field. It
is the most important way in which that individual’s life depends on (Zagorski, et al. 2014). The
workers must be more careful about that patient who is in the problem and must give importance
to them for better recovery.
The most important to give a good mental support is to overcome the problems of the concerned
individual. Therefore, the training is very much important for workers. They have to learn well
about their work because an individual’s life depends on them. The better way they treat that

patient, the patient well recover soon (Frost, Lehavot and Meyer, 2015). Moreover, it is tough to
help a patient how to have in such mental condition, and some reasons confuses them to give a
final decision about their life and the proper support from the health workers can even make
them easier to decide for them.
Conclusion
From the above study organized, it could be inferred that there are several life changing incidents
practised by the persons that affect considerably on functioning and competence. For that reason,
sustain and help are decided from a variety of sources such as family, friends, relatives and
diverse organisations. This can help an individual who is suffering from bad circumstances and
can give them the power to deal with it. That is how the health workers can take back that person
into a normal life. That person copes up himself from those circumstances of stress and
depression.
From the situation of Rebecca, she is in the grief of losing her husband in such a sudden and
tragic manner. Her friends and family members help her to overcome while the grief counsellor
Rebecca helps her the most. Rebecca’s support not only made Sandra strong about the present,
but also helps her to come back in her normal life, and started walking towards the new life.
Someone is facing through a time when those individuals have a serious disease if he or she
avoids treatment, she or he will die soon, but an aggressive treatment might also prolong life.
That time, the patient became very much depressed, and her mental condition became down.
Besides, that time that patient needs someone that can stand beside him and give her mental
support to overcome his problem. Hence, the patient can make his own decisions more easily.
