AI Summary
This report examines chronic illness and supportive care through an analysis of three peer-reviewed research articles. The first article explores the relationship between depression and the onset of chronic illness in older adults, highlighting the need for supportive care strategies. The second article focuses on the quality of life and psychosocial functioning of children with cardiac arrhythmias, emphasizing the resilience of children and the importance of managing chronic conditions. The third article investigates expressions of depression in rural women with chronic illness, demonstrating the impact of depression and the need for healthcare interventions. The report also briefly mentions concussion and concludes with references to the included articles, providing a comprehensive overview of chronic illness and its associated factors.

INTRODUCTION
Chronic illness chiefly exists in a person for more than 2 – 3 months and most often it
includes asthma, arthritis, cancer, diabetes, viral disease and COPD. In the present research
study, discussion has been included regarding chronic illness and the associated factors that
brings chronic illness.
ARTICLE 1
“Depression and the onset of chronic illness in older adults: A 12 yeas perspective study”
In this article, discussion has been included regarding the relationship between depression
and development of chronic illness that exists in older adults. In order to prepare the study, data
has been collected from the Health and Retirement Study which also explains different onset of
chronic illness (Mustafa, Karakus, Lisa and Patton, 2011). The study states that depression exists
in older adults according to the growing age; however it brings psychiatric disorder due to
presence of any sort of chronic illness (which lasts for more than 2-3 months). In the study, it is
identified that older adults require much attention especially when they are suffering from
depression.
Data has been included from US Health and Retirement Survey and it includes a
representative sample of men and women both. The first survey was conducted with 7600
households. Questions regarding health, functional ability and major life events were included in
the survey. Afterwards, conducting the entire study, it became clear that depression is directly
associated with chronic illness especially among older adults (Mustafa, Karakus, Lisa and
Patton, 2011). In the study, it is also noted that arthritis, heart problems and diabetes have direct
association with depression. Stating about the implication for behavioural health, it can be said

that preventive measures can be adopted since that aims to reduce the impact and incidence of
chronic physical illness.
In the study, a sensitivity analysis was executed which analyses if the estimation results
have any relation with that to baseline depression indicator. However, the study has also stated
the correlation between depression and chronic illness (Mustafa, Karakus, Lisa and Patton,
2011). Therefore, it became clear that marginal effects analyses the rate of transition especially
when the other variables are fixed at their mean value. Hence, the study clearly articulates that
supportive care strategies are essential for the purpose of dealing with the patients who have
depression along with chronic disability. In this respect, it is also crucial for the care providers to
focus on care- partnership as that highly underpins the health care services.
ARTICLE 2
“Quality of life and psychosocial functioning of children with cardiac arrhythmias”
In the study, it is included that childhood cardiac arrhythmias have long term impact on
family and which also requires proper medical care and concern. The main purpose of
developing the study was to create a quality of life. In this study, a total of 46 families
participated in the assessment procedure during the regularly scheduled clinic visits. However,
after conducting the study, it is identified that children have a high degree of resiliency towards
chronic illness (Elizabeth and et.al. 2013). Childhood cardiac arrhythmias can befall in children
due to the result of cardiac arrhythmias and conduction of system disease.
In this research work, Cardiac- specific quality of life for youth has been established
which is based on measuring quality of life in children with diabetes. Therefore, on the basis of
overall study, it is ascertained that the high functioning of children is encouraging instead of

having medical trauma. However, the study did not focus on the need of intervention for
children. The study reveals that chronic medication is most commonly used with certain cardiac
population because that aids in controlling the functioning of heart. At the same time, other
chronic conditions require ongoing medical follow- up with several medication so that it may not
impact the quality of life.
On the basis of the study, it can be articulated that the effect of cardiac arrhythmias on
children’s life is steadier as compared to the satisfaction rate with sleep, school and other
activities (Elizabeth and et.al. 2013). On the basis of psychosocially, it can be said that children
with cardiac arrhythmias and their parents can manage the functioning of the body in appropriate
manner in much better manner than other domains. Therefore, it is essential to note that the study
has analysed only preliminary findings for this measure; however that also needs to focus on
other factor analysis as well to show the association of different aspects.
ARTICLE 3
“Expressions of depression in rural women with chronic illness”
The study states that chronic illness has several health impacts and depressive symptoms
are usually observed in the consequence list of chronic illness. Thus, in this realm the study has
been describing how rural women are experiencing depression along with chronic illness. In this
context, the study has used middle- aged rural women who have at least one chronic condition
and who belong to western USA (Winters, Cudney and Sullivan, 2010). In the research work,
researcher has conducted a 22 week computer- based intervention of virtual support and health
education. The main aim of the present research article is to describe the experience of depressed

women who have chronic illness. Sample size for the present research study was 82 rural
women.
In the study, it is also included that the presence of depression could be measured
quantitatively by using the Centre for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale. The messages
posed by the sample size were appropriately examined with the evidence of depressive
symptomatology. On the basis of findings, it is being analysed that rural women feel more
depressed and helplessness especially during seasonal variation. Thus, in this respect the study
has described complementary healthcare treatments (Winters, Cudney and Sullivan, 2010). Thus,
it is clear that rural women who have chronic illness have the chances of depression as well and
that may facilitate health care providers to analyze the possibility of intervention and strategies to
deal with women experiencing depression with chronic illness.
CONCUSSION
The assignment has included evidence- based practices for improving the nursing care
who are engaged in holistic approaches to nursing. Thus, in this respect three peer reviewed
research journal articles have been included.
