INTRODUCTION
This report is based on sustainable development so that people can utilize it without
affecting the resources of the future generations. The report will also include the discussion
about the concept of sustainability and its impact on the long term advantages for various
organisation in the age of this competitive world. It will discuss how the implementation of
various methods like risk management can help them to reduce the impact of climate change and
many more.
The second task of this report will going to include about the various attributes and
capabilities which are very much necessary for the business growth and success. This will be
added by the discussion of necessity of attributes and capabilities in this complex and changing
world with the addition of some research of specific areas of the organisation. Furthermore, it
will add how effective activities in the organisation can achieve the targets.
MAIN BODY
TASK 1
Understanding the sustainability and its impact on creating long term competitive advantages for
organizations
The word sustainability refers that fulfilling the needs of the people without
compromising with the natural resources of the future generations and the needs will also not
affect the natural environment. The term sustainability does not associated with the natural
resources only, it also includes social, environmental and economic resources(Das, 2019). In
business language, it can be said that with continuation of the work without depletion of the
natural and physical resources. Mainly, there are three main parts of the sustainability which are
social, environmental and economical sustainability
Economical sustainability: In this the word economical sustainability refers to the
adoption of such policies through which all the sources of livelihood can be available all the
sections of the society.
Environmental sustainability: Whereas in environmental sustainability it is about the
maintaining the balance between the environment and the natural resources which are used by
the humans to fulfil the basic requirements.

Social sustainability : In the last, it is social sustainability which always focus on the
availability of universal social rights to all the people through which they can get freedom health
and safety and live without discrimination.
Impact of sustainability on the long-term competitive advantages for organisations
There is a great impact of sustainability for the long term business in the competitive
market. Those are actively participate in environment sustainability get more percentage of
consumers engagement compared to other industries who are not engaged in keeping healthy
environment practices(Grubler, 2018). The emotional attachments of the people with
environment can also affect the market.
Risk Management: By adding the method of risk management companies can control
their risks. Supply chain system has become global. Various companies are facing issues of
climate change. Through the method of product recycle, companies can control the risks.
Controlling the Financial Budget: There are various myths that only one thing can be
controlled either company can focus on sustainability or the profits. But,this is not the issue in
the present scenario.
Using Sustainable products and technology: By implementation of sustainable
products companies can reduce the cost of production and sell the products in low prices.
Through the use of various technologies companies can help in reducing climate change and it
will help the organisations in the long run(Vinuesa, 2020). The green purchasing policy will also
benefit the people and the organisation included by the dumping the solid and liquid waste on a
different areas which will not affect the people.
TASK 2
Businesses are utilizing so many resources from the nature that it becomes there duty to
take care of the environment and take appropriate efforts to achieve the sustainable business
operations. Very important capability which an organization must have is the flexibility and
adaptable attitude of working in the organization (Fernando, Jabbour and Wah, 2019). In order
to cope with the frequent changes in the environment a business must operate in flexible manner
that analyses the change and try to incorporate that in to the organization. Measures like avoiding
exploitation of natural resources and shifting for sustainable options are generated in the
adaptable business culture.

Further, an effective leadership in the organization is vital which ensures that employees
stay motivated and inspired which makes them immune and capable of coping with the changes.
Employees are the important pillar of the organization whose productivity is being ensured by
the leaders in the organization. Leadership style is make or break for the organizational culture.
An effective culture is that where employees are allowed there space to identify the problem and
bring ideas for the same. e.g. Tesla is making electric engines which has positively impacted the
nature as use of fuel is reduced (Macke, and Genari, 2019).
Innovation and creativity plays a very important role in the business as changing
environment ask for innovative ideas for a business to stay relatable and efficient. And this can
be fulfilled by the employees being creative in the organization. Business demands new ideas
and thoughts to run the operations which are in accordance with the sustainabili9ty. e.g.
development of the bamboo cookware, utensils, bottles, straws are the biggest examples of such
innovation driven by the sustainable approach as the people behind it knew that staying relatable
to the need of the environment is must.
Collaborative working environment, it is a working style where employees from
different department or segments comes together on a single platform where they can work
together and unleash their creative side for the betterment of the business (Sutduean and et.al.,
2019). e.g. Tesco is allowing a collaborative working space where employees have developed the
idea to reduce the carbon emission and production waste.
CONCLUSION
The above report has comprehensively elaborated the concept of sustainability in the
business environment with the help of some major examples. Sustainability is driving the
businesses in the modern era, every business is in a way or other trying to adapt such business
practices which are sustainable in nature. The impact sustainability has in the long term
regarding the competitive advantage to the business has been explained in detail. Major business
organizations are constantly trying to build a strong brand image which has a driving force of
sustainable business practices in the enterprise. Also, the development of the attributes and
capabilities for success of the business in this complex and changing environment has been
elaborated. The importance of having a flexible work culture in the organization which makes
employees and everyone in the organization very adaptable towards the changing business
environment has been illustrated with some important examples.
