Introduction
ECO-FRIENDLY AMUSEMENT PARK – “MY HOOD PARK” (MHP)
According to Brundtland (1987), sustainable development is the process that caters to the
requirement of the current situation without negotiating the requirement and demands of the future
generations.It has been argued that the definition of Brundtland is more inspirational than being
practical.The term “sustainability” is defined as the study of how natural systemfunctions remain
diverse and produce everything it needs to maintain the ecological balance. Sustainability can be
divided in three segments: Economic, social and environmental (McKinnon et al. 2015).
The purpose of this proposal is to develop an eco-friendly indoor and outdoor amusement
park that will be named My Hood Park, and will be launched in 2017. Located just outside the
busy city of New York, the park is just 30 minutes away and is easily commutable by cars or
shuttle buses. The idea of this amusement park is to address environmental sustainability in the
entertainment industry and at the same timespreading awareness among the visitors regarding
environmental depletion and the impact it has on each individual. The vision of the project is to
take up a greater sustainability approach.
Business idea: My Hood Park
Sustainability is the main focus of the project and every step that will be taken in
developing the idea will be viewed from a sustainable perspective.Starting from operating the
park attractions to promoting a green environment,the project will be taking upcorporate social
responsibility strategies to ensure usage of renewable sources of energy in the park. Besides

bringing significant revenues to the business, this will also benefit both the business and visitors
by setting a crucial and clear mindset on the importance of acting sustainable now.
The attractions of the park are the main highlight for the visitorsthis will also help the
park to promote itself as eco-friendly. The park attractions will convey stories about being
sustainable; tapping into changing the perspective and action of the visitors in terms of
developing a sustainable approach. For instance, rides should be a two-way interaction to
educate riders inaction to be sustainable. It is too make sure that the mission of the project is
being entertaining and educative is met.
In order to promote a green environment across the entire park, facilities like recycle
bins, pollution free zones with designated smoking areas, cycle-to-charge phone charging station
and Hydroleaf water dispenser (an eco-friendly water dispenser that collects and filters
rainwater). Furthermore,to promote the eco-friendly and sustainable theme of the park the
visitors can eat enjoy organic food from the park’s Organic Café. The management of the park
will keep the research and development process rolling in order to develop more interesting and
innovative attractions and ideas to promote sustainability.

Waste management hierarchy
Waste management will be one of the prime focuses of the park;this is one of the most
efficient ways of ensuring eco-friendly approach to an institution. The pyramid explains the way
waste materials can be managed in order to reduce the harmful impact that several wastes have
on the environment. Various kinds of pollution and environmental depletion are caused by the
wastes that are generated on a daily basis. Based on this theory the park will run the operations
and will ensure that the waste is managed strategically. The visitors of the park will also be
encouraged to do the same and incorporate the waste management process individually (Achillas
et al. 2013).

Common reusable energy sources like biomass, hydropower, wind and solar will also be
implemented in the park. The park aims to achieve up to 80% of the energy consumed within the
areato be generated by reusable energies. For example, ecological sewage system to produce
biomass energy, kinetic energy generated from park rides, hydropower from water rides, wind
turbines and solar panels to generate additional electrical energy. This approach will help the
institution to implement the concepts ofreducing, reusing and recycling action; fully utilizing the
sources available around the park (Yeheyis et al. 2013).

Corporate Social Responsibility
Corporate Social Responsibility is the recognition of the duties and the responsibilities an
organisation have towards the society and the environment apart from the financial well being of
the organisation itself. The CRM activities that the organisation will engage in will include
internal and external strategies. It will follow the concept of Triple Bottom Line which focuses
on the three pillars of sustainability: Planet, People and Price (Servaesand Tamayo
2013).Internally the organisation will help in benefiting the staffs of the park and maintaining a
healthy and happy relationship with them. This could be done by offering travel subsidy, gift
cards, team lunch, sleep-in day and gym membership. Research shows that designated nap pods
for staffs could actually improve productivity of the staffs too (Knapton 2014). On the other
hand, external policies refers to contributing to the society by organizing charity programs like
Orphan and Folks Day, school field trips and bi-annual charity fairs. Orphan and Folks Day is a
fully-subsidized trip for the orphans and elderly people.
There is an implementation of the green purchasing policy of the tickets where 10% of
the cost for purchasing a ticket will be used to improve and keep green programs in the park
going.
Looking at the near future, developments such as a reserved park and mini zoo for
protected animals etc are some of the ideas that are in the streamline. In line with the whole
concept of this entertainment sector, this could be a chance to educate people the importance of
diverse floras and faunas in the ecosystem and what they can do to protect them(Deng et al.
2013). For instance, programs like “Sponsor an Animal” or “Plant a Tree” with just a small
amount of monthly fee could initiate individuals to keep track of their commitment to the flora or

fauna that they are sponsoring; tapping into the unconscious mind of the sponsors despite their
busy daily schedules in the concrete jungle - the city.
Despite the high investment required to provide these sustainable technology, it has been
observed that implementation of sustainable optionswill help in reduction of the cost of
operation(Flammer 2013).
Conclusion
This amusement park foresees the future of entertainment with the help of emerging
technologies and constant research and development (R&D) to improve the park.My Hood
Parkwill be a true example of “the park of tomorrow”. This business model would not only
benefit the corporate in terms of profit but will also help in preserving the ecological balance for
the future generations. Furthermore it will also help in spreading awareness among the people.
