INTRODUCTION
Career development is a broader concept in which an individual choose their career,
advance a career path and improve their skills in order to sustain in competitive environment.
There are five stages of career development such as exploration, establishment, mid-career, late
career and decline (Popova, 2017). Career development is a continuous process which includes
mainly four steps such as self knowledge, decision making, exploration and action. Sustainability
in career means when individual align their career with interest, values and strengths (De Vos
and Van der Heijden, 2017). The sustainability can be created by understanding the sectors,
building relationship, focusing on strength and also individual can gain experience. The report is
based on sustainability in career development in which job description and CV is produced
including few question related to the job. The chosen job role for this report is production
department and the industry is retail industry.

responsibility and functions which is performed by an individual in workplace. It mainly

other (Pedersen, 2017). This sector is chosen as this sector is growing consistently and also they
require a specialised and expertise labour that can give their best performance (Heizmann and
Liu, 2018). In retail sector, there is a increasing demand of personnel due to which this sector is
selected as it helps to provide better career opportunities and also improve my knowledge and
skills.

employer in UK and also they contribute in the success of economy. It also helps in increasing
the employment and create job opportunities for people. Retail industry is broader sector than
just sale and also it provide an opportunity to company to sell their products at competitive price.
Affordability:
Affordability is the other factor that influence the retail sector, the people of UK have
attractive income due to which they can purchase the products from retail industry. In economic
growth period, the demand for clothes and other products get high. Therefore, demand for
clothing influences the retail industry.
In UK, retail sector contributes economic output of £97.0 billion in 2020 and also 5.2%
UK's total economic output. The retail sector have 3.0 million jobs in 2019 and also there are
310,000 retail business in 2020. There are 3.1 million people in retail industry and also it is
considered as largest employer.

considered as one the biggest private sector as it contributes their best efforts in improving the
economic growth of country. The challenges which is faced by student in retail industry is:

It is one the challenge which is faced by student while entering into retail industry, it is
important to have marketing knowledge of the company in which they have to enter
(Contestabile, 2019).
Staffing problem due to COVID 19:
Due to COVID 19, retail industry is facing an issue of staffing as it become difficult for
the company to attract and retain the top talents.
