1. Identify your chosen scenario and scope and describe some of the different
sustainability concerns that you think need to be considered under each of the three
dimensions (environmental, social and economic)?
Answer: Sustainability concerns which are related to tourism is the rising levels of
pollutions. The growing levels of pollution is one of the biggest problems associated with
tourism. In the contemporary times, travelling has become of the integral parts of
people’s lifestyles. This has been possible due to the globalizing mission, as different
parts of the world have become significant destinations for tourism. Thus, people gather
in large number to witness these places. The ongoing practice of tourism in the popular
tourism destinations have led to serious outcomes which impact the environment and
sustainability. The most pertinent impact which is felt is the air pollution happening in
these regions due to overtourism. It is directly related to the sustainability concerns as the
carbon emissions are increasing within the atmosphere. Tourism may have positive
effects on the economy of the country, but the negative outcomes are plenty, which are
causing serious issues such as climate change. However, if air pollution increases, there
will also be economic and social concerns arising from the same, as sustainability
depends of all the three dimensions, social, economic and environment.

should be responded to first to help achieve a sustainable outcome? How and why
do you think this might contribute to a more sustainable outcome?
Answer: There will be significant effect on all the three dimensions, which include social,
economic and environment, due to the growing levels of pollution in the popular tourist

destinations. Some popular tourism destinations, which are heavily commercialized are
also regarded to be the places with greatest amount of exploitation and pollution, caused
due to human activities. In order to address the issues, what can be done instead, is
Ecotourism. It can help in the process of addressing all the three dimensions, as it will
help regulate the impacts which hinder sustainability. Eco tourism, is expected to cause
less impact as it is a small scale alternative method in comparison to mass tourism. Eco
tourism involves travelling in a responsible manner, to places which conserve lives and
culture of local people as well as the environment. Eco tourism, thus, will not only help
in the process of conserving nature, but also the lives of the people, financially and
socially, through cultural awareness.
